    THE THIRD CONCLAVE

    TheMysticTriangle

    A ugust1928

(Held the day following the SecondConclave, with the same characters as-sembled in the same place).

Wilson: May I be permitted to aska few questions!* You have been kindenough to accept me into your brother-hood of initiates, as you called the body, and have given me many points of in-formation which have held me in theirthrilling grip since our last conclave.

Martin: I am sure that I expressthe minds of all of us when I say that we shall be glad to have you ask anyquestions which will lead to furtherknowledge.

Wilson: You said, I believe, thatmy present L ig ht was the sum total

of all the Light, or experiences, in mypast incarnations. Therefore, when Iam born again on earth, I shall havemore L ig ht than when I was born onearth at any previous time. Do I un-derstand you to mean that a mans

L ig ht is an accumulating something, and that one person has more or less ofit than another?

Martin: Since I was the one whomade the original statement to you, Iwill answer your question. You cannotthink of Cosmic Light in the terms ofearthly, material Light, although there

may be some analogy. It is also a mis-take to compare Cosmic Light, or the

Lig ht within man, to knowledge: forknowledge, too, is largely a thing ofmaterial measurement. Even CosmicKnowledge would not constitute Cos-mic Light. Your experiences, the les-sons learned and unlearned on earth, the tests, trials, joys, sorrows and ulti-mate conclusions reached through them, plus those facts which you have ac-quired through study, observation andintellection, constitute knowledge; but

such knowledge, while helpful to thesoul, as is Cosmic Knowledge, is not

Light.L ig ht is the Wisdom of the Soul. It

is God Power, creative power. Itis a force, an energy, and an illumina-tion that enlightens not only the soulof the possessor, but the soul of others. It is really difficult to explain Lig htin earthly terms, as I have said, but it may be compared with

Mizraim: With the Consciousnessof God in man!

Martin: Precisely. That is morenearly perfect in its definition. Youhave your own interpretation or under-standing of God and Gods conscious-ness, have you not?

Wilson: Well, I have always pic-

tured God and His Consciousness andwisdom in my own way, for I nevercould understand by any picture ordescription that was given to me in thechurch or by religious persons. T o meGod is a being, and yet not a being likeany on earth, or anywhere else for thatmatter. I have pictured God as beinggreater, stronger, more mighty, power-ful and enduring than any being I haveever seen; and with a piercing counte-nance, majestic personality, with sucha raised viewpoint of all people and per-sons that He could see all, know all,

and command all. Of course His con-sciousness to me was sublime, rich inwisdom, complete in all knowledge, and the cause of all manifestations.Where he was situated and hew, gaveme little thought. That is all I cansay.

Manetho: A pretty Heathen youare, Wilson!

Mysta: A builder of idols, forsooth!Wilson: I am unhappy. I did not

believe that you would scoff at mybeliefs and understandings. Do you

    Five Hundred Thirty-four

mean to say that there is no God likethat which I have described ?

Martin: Come, Come, Brother, youdo not understand the remarks of myBrothers. In satire have they analyzed

your explanation in order to impress

you with the heathen ideas still pre-vailing in the universe.

    Wilson: I a heathen! I cannot agree

to that. Heathens worshipped idolsand I have never worshipped them, nordo 1 believe in them.

Martin: So you say; so have saidthousands of earthly priests and clerics

of the church, and are still saying so,right in your former country of Amer-ica; and while they preach and describe

the God of their understanding, theycreate idols. Your land of America

was filled with the God idols at the

time of your transition.Wilson: I do not understand you.

I never saw one of those idols.Martin: Let me ask you a few

questions now. Suppose that you wererequested, just before your transition,to explain your God to some children:and suppose that after having giventhem the same explanation that youhave just given to us, you were asked

by a group of children, in all sincerity,to show Cod to them, what would youhave said?

Wilson: I would have said thatGod is invisible, that He cannot be seen,

that the substance of which He is, can-not be seen by the eyes.

Martin: Excellent! But supposethey said to you, in all sincerity, andwith crying, aching hearts, pleading forhelp in their predicament: Until wecan know God as you do, how shall

we pray to Him; how shall we think of

Him, visualize Him, see Him? What

would have been your answer?Wilson: I would have tried to con-

vince them that it was not necessary to

visualize God in order to pray to Him.Martin: And, suppose you failed to

convince them of that? Suppose theysaid to you: You have some mentalpicture of him, for your descriptionshows us that you have. We, too, wishto see the God to whom we pray, sinceHe has form, expression, character, and

other qualities and conditions. Whatwould you have said then?

Wilson: I would have been per-plexed. I would have attempted to ex-plain that I did not mean to describe

    Five Hundred Thirty-five

God as having form, character, coun-tenance and qualities that could be

visibly pictured. But, if I had failed

to convince them that I had made amistake in thus explaining God, 1would have said that the next bestthing I could do would be to give them

some symbol of God's existence, ofGod's

Mysta: Of Gods picture in theminds of men!

Wilson: Why yes, a symbol of Godas the mind of man could picture Him.

Martin: And, if they asked you tomake that picture in such form as

agreed with your description, talliedwith all the qualities you attributed to

God, and conformed with the impres-sion you had, what would you have

done.Wilson: I would have found my

self in a serious predicament indeed. But, again, if I were forced to do asthey requested, I would have to makesome image of my God in a crudepainting

Manetho: A painting that wouldbe easily damaged, destroyed, and lackthe quality of endurance you attributed

to your God? Th at would be incon-sistent!

Wilson: I would probably make itof clay

Mizraim: And have it crumbleaway as the moisture left it. A God

that would turn into dust and cease toexist! It would destroy their faith! AGod that would lose its form while youattempted to mould it!

Wilson: True! I would probablyresort, at last, in trying to carve myGod in stone, though, I am no artist

and have had no experience in handling

tools on stone.Martin: Ah, then you would make

for them an idol! Heathen! A creatorof false Gods!

Wilson: I protest, Brothers. I amno heathen. I would not make for

them a God,but merely a symbol of my

human understanding of God.Martin: We ask your indulgence,

Brother, and your pardon, for we aremerely helping you to realize a greatlesson. Can you not see, now, that allheathens who had idols were like untothe children who asked for a visiblesign of God, a symbol? And can younot see that all carvers of idols were

simply trying, in their human, humble HE

way to express their idea of God, with-out experience in carving, without fa-miliarity with tools.

Wilson: I do see! I never realizedthat fact before.

Martin: See what your descriptionof God included: Your God was notlike any being on earth different in

form. Can you not see wh y theheathen idols were so strange in form,

absolutely unlike any being they eversaw? Your God was greater, larger, more powerful. Can you not see in

those words the suggestion of hugenessof figure, greatness of mass, enormous

    height or width, muscular, weighty,

and impressive? Your God was more

enduring than any other being you

have ever contacted. Is there anything

more enduring known to man thanstone or metal? Your God was one

    with piercing countenance, elevated

position, and in commanding view of

all that exists. Can you not see in

those words or ideas the reason for

making your idol on a high pedestal,

or base, overlooking the surroundingterritory, with large eyes or even many

eyes, an aweinspiring expression onthe features and a terrible countenance?

And since your God was the cause of all

manifestations in nature, would not the

children to whom you presented this

idol have knelt before it and begged it

to end the storms, still the rough seas,

bring down the rains, increase the sun-shine, fertilize the ground, make pro-fuse the crops, and do all the thousand

other things over which he had com-mand?

Wilson: Undoubtedly, although Iwould have explained that the stone

idol had no power in itself.Manetho: So explained the Priests

before my time and even during my

time on earth. Those who sought for

Truth were told that the idol before

them was but a symbol: those who

cared naught for the Truth never knew

whether there was a power within the

idol or symbol which they worshipped

    or not.

Martin: So, you see, Brother, evenin those days there were those who

knew and those who did not. The

Truth was always available for thosewho desired it, but the majority werequite content to worship in ignorance.

Wilson: Why did not the Prieststell everyone that there was no power,

no life, in the idol? Th at would have

saved all from worshipping in ignor-ance.

Mizraim: Ha! How I argued thatway! I pleaded for universal revela-tions of the Truth, but the mass paid

no attention and the Priesthood pun-ished me for my daring. I was called

a modernist.Wilson: Do you mean that many

    preferred to worship wrongly, rather

than be told the truth about the relig-ious principles they were using?Martin: Did not the multitude re-

fuse to hear the Truth in your last

    incarnation on earth, Brother Wilson?

Did not the priesthood and the major-ity prefer to adhere to the ancient or

original fundamentals, as they calledtheir system? That was shutting the

consciousness to Light. Now you will

know what we mean by one expression

of Light. There were those illuminatedones on earth in your last period, just as there were hundreds or thousands of

cycles ago, ready and willing to spread

the Light.Wilson: I understand, now. If my

present understanding is a part of myLight, and this Lig ht will remain withme during my next incarnation on

earth, I will lose no opportunity to re-veal to the ignorant the Truth.

Mysta: And, thereby become an ac-tive worker in the Brotherhood of the

Initiated!Wilson: And I shall never forget

that the heathen of any land or any

religion is as correct in his understand-

ing of God, as I am in mine.Martin: And thereby prove your-

self to be attuned with the universalconsciousness of God.

YSTICISM is spoken of as asixth sense, or an innerperceptive faculty whichdistinguishes man from thehighest below him, and al-lies him to the highestabove him. It, like the

senses, has a function. Thisfunction is to perceive, and to afford

food for thou gh t. It is, therefore, amystic sense, because it is mysterious,

intuitive, recollective, emotional, spec-ulative, imaginative, prophetic, andpenetrative.

By, and through, the use of thismystic sense, we are able to enter intorelationship with the psychic side ofreality. It brings us in touch with theCosmic, of which, we are a part. Itgives us knowledge that is not of thisworld knowledge that cannot be as-similated through the use of the othersenses. It takes us behind the humanaffairs of life, into the Divine Heightsand Altitudes of Gods Great Cosmic

World. It makes it possible to solveproblems, which lie beyond the reachof the other senses, and without its de-velopment there is no progress orgrowth of the soul.

Mysticism is intuitive, because we,through special training in study, andin meditation, can become conscious, almost instantly, of the distinction, ordiscrimination, between the true andthe false, between the real and the seem-ing, and Know that we know. Know-ledge gained through meditation, as

proof of this, is always made applica-ble to the condition proving itself.

Mysticism is imaginative, becauselong before men saw, they dreamed. The aeroplane was a vision before itwas a fact, manifested in existence. The automobile too was a vision, a picturein mind, every detail of it, before itwas a fact, manifested in existence.Out of the imagination of the heart, cometh the issues of life. Imagina-tion. in its mystical way, taketh righthold of the invisible mind substance, and through its mystical power of

    Five Hundred Thirty-teven

forming pictures, it molds this sutstance into forms which correspond tthe patterns used. Probably a gre;deal that each of us possess was a visiobefore it was a fact. Yes, by this my:tic sense we often perceive what wihappen tomorrow, as though it we:today. As this form of the mystsense develops, we first see dimly, thewith increasing clearness.

As a prophetic sense, giving knov

ledge of the future, there are plenty cinstances of uncontestable perception cthe future, and they are instances th;are not results of suggestion.

Before I found the Ancient and Mytical Order Rosae Crucis, I had wanttthis Great Light in Knowledge and uiderstanding, it seemed there was somthing within that must know how 1express itself; so much did I yearn anlong for it, that in times of agonizirlonging, I would send a call out inithe Universe, out into the Cosmrealms, addressed to Brothers and Si

ters to help me find the Brothehood for this purpose. (I knew mthen, why I said Brothers and Siters) .

In two weeks time, I picked upNew York newspaper, and in lookirover the Sunday services, my eyglanced at once to the lectures advetised by Dr. H. Spencer Lewis, (01beloved Imperator), here in New Yoiin November, 1925. All this througno influence apparently visible. Hovever, now I can understand, how tbmysterious incident was undoubted'

brought about. (I could relate numeous incidents of the same kind, as moof us in this work can do ).

Invisible Forces had heard the cafrom me, for Light Behind the Po tals. As far back as the year 191I had a vision of tall big iron gateopening slowly, and beyond them awas beautiful golden Light. I now sthe resemblance, in a material waywell as the mystical way, to the openiientrance to one of our RosicruciaTemples, where I crossed the Thre

hold, becoming a member of this be-loved Ancient and Mystical Order,Rosae Crucis.

As a penetrative sense, it has beenpossible to experience, after some min-utes of meditation, following weeks of

preparation in exercises and study, apenetrative attribute of the MysticalCosmic vibrations. I have felt the Cos-mic vibrations so strongly that it is noweasy to find myself, my real self, out ofthe material body; I seemed to be sur-rounded by a soft light of orchid color. And the Peace that followed, made meconfident to know, as only a Rosicru-cian can know.

As an emotional attribute, manythings are accomplished under emotion, which is a forerunner of an inspira-tion, bubbling into manifestation. Ihad a Cosmic urge I wanted to writesomething about this big subject ofMysticism, but felt on the other hand, too humble to do so. But the urge keptpushing me to it, until I have gottentogether what have been my experienceson the way through the Four Grades.

As a recollective attribute of the mys-tic sense, there have been times, whenmany of us, have had revisions; or re-collections brought to the surface fromour subconscious minds, of our pre-vious incarnations. As a child, mymother bought me a book to read, (Idont know whether she ever realizedwhy she bought it; she was very mys-

tical). She read it over and over, her-self. Th e Egyptian name of this booksomehow filled me with a strange, awe-some, feeling, and to such an extent, that when I would pick the book upI would always lay it back down, and

the word Egyptian at that timeseemed to be the apparent reason why itwas laid down every time. However,I clung to this book for years, untilrecently it has been mislaid from mychildhood home; but, strange to say,the name of the book came to my view among some other story books in abookstore recently. I know now, thatshould I read that book, (and I pro-bably shall, for most likely it came be-fore me for a purpose, now) there willbe a veil lifted, and something of thepast, will be revealed to me. Perhapssomething that I need now, that Iwould not have understood nor appre-ciated then.

And so, the true sincere seeker ofMysticism finds that when the InnerSelf, the interior state the windows ofthe Soul are thrown open, when theveil which hangs over the inner sensesis removed; then are we able to glancebackward, and also down the mysticallanes of the future, and know.

When the mind is surrendered up,as a clear glass,

Messages of the magical world rollpast.

^flections on the Third Temple (jradePART THREE

    By Ra y m u n d An d r e a , F. R. C,Grand Master, AMORC, Great Britain

HE KEYNOTE of the presentarticles is realization. Ourwork on the path consistsof a series of realizations, anentering into, with completeunderstanding, of one phaseafter another of life exper-

ience, through external contact, or in-ward cogitation, or the steady ascensionof mental forces. Through external

contact we realize the beauty of theworld; we sense the everchanging pan-orama of form, colour and sound ex-pressed with infinite prodigality in theface of nature and of humanity . Poorindeed are we if we have not passed along novitiate within the suffusing em-brace of this living dream! Restinghere, with clear senses and full apprecia-tion, we clothe ourselves in the mysticgarment of the ideal; we sense the im-mensity of God and feel within us thedivine afflatus of the spirit of creation.Every man should be a creator after his

kind, and in the temple of nature theaspirant must discover his first strengthand learn his technique as an artist ofthe beautiful.

Through inward cogitation he inter-prets the dream of love as service. Hisreflection on the bountifulness and re-sourcefulness of nature teaches him thelaw of wise and timely expressivenessin the service of his fellowmen. He isto give himself royally in his chosensphere of life and prove to the Powersthat are ready to assist him that he isa reliable worker and not a mere

theorist. No matter where his humblelot is cast, he is called to act a part thatwill shed a divine halo around it andbe instrumental for good. Civilization, brilliant and culminating, yet proudand materialistic and ignorant of itsgoal, cries aloud for the sacrificial ser-vice of the humble aspirant. He mustnot fail it. He should know that oc-cultism is not a soft religion for theattainment of a personal elysium, butthe relentless light of the devastating

    Five Hundred Thirty-nine

truth that makes men ashamed in thepresence of the soul. He must passout of the conventional life and explorethe lonely pro m on to ry o f thought untilhe has that knowledge and conviction. He must not unwillingly suffer thepeace derived from finite adjustment tobe disturbed as he pushes forward to thehigher peace of Cosmic attunement, in-tent upon radiating its assurance upon

the turmoil of the world. He mustrealize that the soul is impregnated with creative power, and that power he mustresurrect with dedicated purpose andtotal recklessness of the common andunenlightened opinion of those whofear for his sanity. He is on the roadto Damascus, and when the full lightcomes all service will be sublime and hewill give all and suffer all in the Mas-ters name.

In all these realizations the consciousdirecting power of the soul is impliedas the ever present and persistent mo-

tive. In the first realization the soulinspires the senses to a higher and morecultured observation of the manifestedbeauty of the Author of nature. In thesecond realization, by virtue of an en-largement and enrichment of the soul'squalities, we minister understanding^to the common life of our fellowmen inthe way of everyday service. We havenow to consider the intellectual life asthe realization of the dream of poetry. The term is significant and admits of awide application. The expression oflife is rhythmical. From the vast and

illimitable ocean of cosmic vibrationissues with ferven t appeal every inspiredcreation of the mind of man. And ifwe go at once to the fountainhead ofthe sublime and poetic, to the divinelyinspired prophets, whose intellectualsuperiority and oracular utterances willnever be eclipsed inasmuch as they werethe august revelators of the truth of thethings of time and eternity, who sawthe things that were and foresaw thoseto come and whose rhythmic and pro

phetic speech has inspired and given anuniversal theme to many a prophet ofthe modern world, we shall do well.It is related of Bossuet, the famousorator, that on first reading the bookof Isaiah, he was so struck with the

beauty and sublimity of it that he be-came a man of one book. A remarka-ble tribute to his intellectual apprecia-tion and an example not unworthy ofimitation! For Isaiah is the revealer offacts and his outstanding characteristicis his many sidedness. He is the greatanticipator of the Christ entering intohuman evolution. He has the triplesight of poetic genius: observation, imagination and intuition; from whicharises that heavy burden of reproachand prophecy which descends with suchmajestic elocution upon the civilization

of his time.I am not proposing a sermon for the

aspirant on the book of Isaiah: thechurches have given him so many thathe has probably overlooked the sterlingvalue and culture of the prophet and helives in his memory but as a name. Myaim is to suggest that he should putaside the ecclesiastical influence and per-mit these world poems to speak forthemselves to his own reverent andsearching mind in all their naked ma-jesty until he gains something of the

strength and nobility of their cosmic

thinking. It is intimated by some that

we Rosicrucians make little of the Bible;I suppose, because we are not alwaysquoting it. If the inference were true, the fact would be recorded to ourshame. Nothing could be further fromthe truth. The fact is, the truth of theBible is so deeply engraved in our hearts

that we endeavour to live it, instead offilling our lectures with quotationsfrom it. That is the point I seek to

impress on the aspirant. If he cannotrealize the dream of poetry in the

mighty strophe of Isaiah, he will either

not realize it anywhere else, or his real-ization will be incomplete. I remembera good soul who, every time we met, would ask me with much concernwhether I believed in the atonement? My belief or unbelief apparently settledthe whole question for her whether ornot I was entitled to the heaven sheexpected. Had she known how oftenI had repeated in my solitude, not with-out the deepest emotion, the poignantfiftythird chapter of our prophet, her

    interrogation would surely have been

deemed unnecessary. We must not bedisturbed by such interrogation, or bythe cutting assertions that we departfrom the standard of faith. Our faithis made of sterner stuff; it has an

esoteric foundation which only theinitiated know; it is rooted in the life

blood of the primitive thought; and if

we culture its passionate fervour in therhythms of the heart we can foregothe name in the conscious possession ofthe substance. That living substanceis in the book of Isaiah. T o imbibe itsgorgeous rhetoric with full artistic ap-preciation is to ascend to one of thesummits of the dream, far above therude clamour and hideous babel of theworld; but to endeavour to fashion his

intellectual life after the lofty example

of inward law and morality enjoined

in it will raise the aspirant beyond this,

to the plane of the epic mind where

sublimity of thought and manly dutyblend in lawful consent and reveal thegranite laws of the ideal shining

    through the dream.

And in the other prophets he willfind an unique field for the applicationof this special process of culture. Theyare the great primitive poets, men ofprofound vision, the Godintoxicated

clairvoyants, denouncers and trans-formers of civilizations, from whose in-spired lips issues an amazing and apoca-lyptic poetry which carries the mind outinto the infinitudes of Cosmic thoughtand expands and enlightens it in themeasure of its inborn nobleness. If itis asked: What has this to do withoccult advancement? the answer mustbe: it has so much to do with it thatnothing can take the place of it. Oc-cult science demands in its disciples alarge understanding: a small mind willdo nothing with it. It is a science pre-

eminently of grand and lofty concep-tions, and unless the mind is gradually

habituated to conceptions of this na-ture, how can it assimilate and expoundthe greatness and majesty of God asrevealed in the living universe whichthis science teaches? By steeping him-self in the works of these world writershe will contact their vibration and re-flect the contagious fire and express theheavenly harmony of their lives, andinsensibly will his entire nature be en-nobled in vision and purpose for the

fructifying of the soul life of his genera-tion.

Here it cannot be too strongly in-

sisted upon that the aspirant is not to bea man of a single idea, so to speak, even though it be an occult one. He mustbe able to touch life at many points. He must aim to become a fu ll man; andonly the assiduous culture of the intel-lectual life can make him that. I re-member reading a very illuminatingremark by an occultist to the effect, that if many students were subjected toclairvoyant investigation they wouldbe found to be not big enough tohandle the work of the Masters. Thatis a great truth and pertinent to my theme. That bigness can only come

through entering with heart and soulinto the allinclusive realizations re-ferred to in the Third. The Masterrequires the fourfold genius of man tobe evolved and highly balanced beforehe may entrust him with any specialphase of world service. Th e expecta-tions of some aspirants, it must be said, transcend all the bounds of commonsense in this matter. If the mere read-ing of occult literature and the passingtechnically through the grades weresufficient, how soon should we all bequalified initiates!

It is not my intention to outline acourse of reading or propose a guide forthe intellectural life. I only seek toimpress upon the young aspirant theabsolute necessity of gaining a broadmental outlook and of applying himselfto this end in his own way. He will observe that in the Third there is nota word regarding specializing in litera-ture, not a single direction as to author or book. The Rosicrucian is a thinker, and a hint is sufficient for him to ex-pand a thought or suggestion into all

its manifold possibilities. He is not asked to become a specialist in prose orprosody; a categorical statement isgiven of the content of the fourfoldrealization which constitutes perfection

and it is for him to work out thatrealization in all its fulness and varietyas perceived in the master mind. To propose for himself as an ideal the en-cyclopaedic knowledge of the epic mindof a Bacon or Shakespeare, for instance, may end in his throwing up his handsin despair; nevertheless, in the seriouscontemplation of epic minds lies a fer-tile source of inspiration and culture. In the realm of the dream he may ap-proach the fountainhead of creation, whence issues that supreme psychic phe-nomenon, the inspiration or Godob-

session which pervades the whole litera-ture of great art. These epic minds arethe benefactors of the race; they emergeradiant with light from the core of theworld; they rise from the earth andcontact the fulness of God in the ether;in them human thought attains itsgreatest intensity; they compress theinfinite into a word which reverberatesthrough all the ages of man; andwithal, so vibrant is it with vision andpower that it contests the very groundof religion itself. The poet, the artistand the philosopher traverse equally the

immensities of the dream and returnweighted with archetypal thoughtsfrom the deep profound and cast theirpriceless treasures at the feet of poorman. And the Rosicrucian is a dreamerof the first magnitude, possessing thetriple sight of the artist, the poet andthe philosopher, but, with the addedpower of divinity, he so interprets thelaws of destiny that all the bibles ofhumanity are revealed as one vast in-tonation of the Word of God, the sameyesterday, today, and forever.

ANY CENTURIES have passedsince the days when hereticswere persecuted as inimicalto the good of church andstate, and yet the same cru-sades against nonbelieversand nonconformists are be-

ing carried on in America today in thelast classification of humans where sucha condition would be expected in theranks of mystical and occult students.

And, the old ultimatum of the lead-

ers is still heard: Slay them all; Godwill know His own!

No foreign despot, no political ty-rant, no temporal ruler over the desti-nies of nations, fosters the crusades andurges the continued strife among thesects. Not from without the pale ofBrotherhood associations comes the di-rection of the destructive operations, but from within. There is the pity ofit all; the miracle of its genius is to befound in the body of its own being, like a cancer eating its way to the veryheart.

Just as the year 1909 proved to bea noted year for the establishment andreestablishment of more mystical, oc-cult, and metaphysical bodies than anyother year in many centuries, so the year1928 will become memorable for theresults achieved by the hundreds ofbrotherhood movements which strivefor success in America today.

The year is half spent; six months ofcontest and conflict have passed. Theunnecessary and unbecoming struggle isat its height of fury. Cannot someonerise from the ranks of the opposingarmies and prove to be the Christ ofthe Argonne and proclaim Peace?

Brotherhoods, indeed! Children ofLight, Sons and Daughters of God,children under the Fatherhood of a uni-versal love, kith and kin of one greathuman family! And, at war; warringfor supremacy in dictatorship of mansthinking; warring for exclusive recog-nition as the only Path to DivinePower; warring for acclaimed conces-sion of the only real W ay to Mystical

Peace; warring for the right to chastisethose who dare to find God in theirown Lig ht. War bloodless, yes, and

soulless!1 do not refer to the contests between

religious denominations for the estab-lishment of their doctrines, but solely tothe contest between the many sects andmovements claiming to be free from thesocalled bigotry and sectarianismof the churches. I refer to those bodiesof men and women proclaiming to be

mystical in their religion, metaphysicalin their doctrines, and brotherly in theirphysical regulations. Not all of them, praise be to God, but in sufficient num-bers to make the very atmospherecharged with bursting bombs of ex-ploded hopes and faiths.

Via Crucis! In the name of theCross, was the war slogan in the cen-turies gone by the slogan which themodern brotherhoods of man say wasblasphemous. In the name of theMasters, and by decree of the GreatWhite Lodge," is the war cry of today

a cry which the future generationswill proclaim as equally blasphemous.

We can understand that any organi-zation will defend itself against anyuntoward action which will still itsvoice, lessen its power of immediateprogress, or defer its righteous servicesto humanity. We can appreciate thenecessity for protective measures againstany destructive agency of real, notimaginary, motive. We can approve ofevery constructive effort directed to-ward maintaining the good name and

good wor k of any humanitarian move-ment.

What we cannot understand, how-ever, are the campaigns and crusadeson the part of one branch of mysticaleffort against others in the same ordifferent Paths , solely on the basis ofseeming com pe tit ion and protested ex-clusiveness.

No one person, no one organization,no one earthly hierarchy, has the wholeof Truth for exclusive dissemination. No one illuminated earthly mind, nor

group of such minds, controls the only true channel for the revelation of Godswisdom. No one school or collegium possesses the only key to the only

Portal. The very thought of such a

pretension is preposterous. Still, bat-tles have been fought in the past solelyto maintain such a claim; and the war

rages today among a dozen American

organizations to attempt to secure suchfalse recognition.

As the human consciousness varies inindividuals and in groups of individ-uals, as the comprehensive capabilitiesof humans and groups of humans dif-fer in many degrees, so there must bevarying and divers methods of present-ing the great truths and revealing theGreater Light.

From the dawn of civilization to the

    present hour mankind has consciously

and unconsciously divided itself intosegments, units, groups, and congrega-tions, of individuals of similar develop-ment and evolution. For each group,

for each unit, there has always been

found the adequate, proper, agreeable, and efficient means for further progress. That is a law of human nature created

by the principles of the Cosmic working

out its beautiful scheme. Man cannotchange that by either decree or war.If it were otherwise, all progress, all

    evolution, all growth and development,

would cease. That the many Paths may run par-

allel and then converge into others, or

that some may run contrawise andfinally reach the ultimate goal of allPaths, is true. The very fact, however, proves the consistency of Divine Geom-etry, and in no sense argues for a wilful

consolidation of all the Paths into onemanmade highway.

We find several groups of Theoso

phists dissenting and bitterly attackingtheir former parent organization be-cause of differences of opinion regard-ing personalities and secondary princi-ples. Constructive criticism, with truebrotherly tolerance, is cast aside and,

instead of cooperative action to improve

conditions the human conditionswithin their organizationthey con-stitute themselves independent bodies

with virtuous powers. This is fol-lowed, in the absence of any construc-tive consideration, by attacks and de-structive diatribes against the parent

    Five Hundred Forty-three

body. The result is continued dissen-sion and division in the ranks of thecontesting sections, while the parent

body quietly and harmoniously adjustsits human frailties and continues to

grow and prosper.Warfare always produces more bom-bastic conflagrations and becloudedatmospheres than peace, and the seekerfor 1 heosophical guidance finds him-self confronting unpleasant conditionsand wrongly believes that the whole of

the Theosophical Society is in turmoil

and confusion. Both factions sufferthe loss of a possible worker, and theseeker suffers the loss of a worthy

companionship. Such is the price of

    of one unjust war.

    A new organization, claiming unique

    authority from the Great White

    Lodge, establishes its representatives

in various American cities and broad-casts its pretensions in literature whichat once announces its attacks on allother occult or mystical bodies of long

establishment here, and simultaneouslywarns its members that it is being at-tacked in return. It polite ly and force-fully announces that if an organiza-tion either openly or secretly tries tohinder this our Work, we will destroyi t ! It offers its truths, reveals its

Light, opens its Portals, only to those

who will desert their present Paths, deny their present teachers, abandon

their present societies, and revoke theirpresent obligations or duties, and fol-low the new standard. An ultimatumof war! A decree of secession! And all because the Great White Lodge'

    and an unnamed, unknown, Master,

representing Peace and Happiness, havesuddenly created new revelations! The

happy, contented, faithful in other or-ganizations are astounded. The Great

Masters have suddenly appeared withswords instead of Lamps. Is there noPeace among the Peaceful? Hope and

faith are shattered. Where is the mys-tical mount of Illumination?

An Avatar appears in Americaand condemns all existing metaphysicaland mystical bodies as unreal, untrue, and unworthy, and makes appeal forfollowers on the basis that he alone has

been commissioned by the secret circles

of India to save the seekers for Light against their determined mad rush intoblinding effulgence. No word of con-

    structive guidance, only condemnation

and destructive argument, appealing tothose whom he conquers through fearand superstition. Organizations fromwhose ranks this appointed leader hasdrawn followers, forget the dignity oftheir staid position and engage incounter attacks, thereby destroying the

faith of their loyal ones. Bitter dis-appointment, blasted hopes, discourage-ment in the quest! All this the priceof contest. And, among brotherly or-ganizations!

Among the Rosicrucians, too, thereis contest. The seeker finds a numberof organizations, each pointing out adifferent Path that leads to the goalsought by its followers. All of themclaim to be the standard bearers of anold and honorable bannerthe RosyCross, the cross of Peace, Power andprosperity in all things of the spiritual

and material realms. All of themseeming to be a part of the organizationwhose ancient motto is L ig ht, Lifeand Love. In the midst of theircontented activities, one organizationflying its banner of distinct Rosicrucian differentiation, suddenly chal-lenges all the others, irrespective of theirdifferent appeals and different presenta-tions, and claims them to be illegal, copyists of its exclusive rights to allRosicrucian thought, and labels the

members of these other bodies as blacks

black magicians, black intellectuals, and black spirits. Unprovable asser-

tions are made, injurious charges arehurled, serious defamations are broad-cast in pamphlets through the mails, and doubt, hesitancy, fear, and saddisappointment are instilled in theminds of thousands of happy studentsand progressing followers. Th e otherorganizations must take from theirtime and labor of constructive effortsand come to the defense of their honor-able activities, that the future progress

of the Rosicrucian work may not be

jeopardized. Wasted expenditure! Theultimate result, while victorious for the

peaceful bodies who suffered the attack, leaves them no further advanced in theiractivities for the effort and time ex-pended.

Another Rosicrucian society, un-mindful of the laws of tolerance andgood will toward all as the real law ofthe Rosy Cross, insists that not one ofits members may unite with any otherschool or system of similar thought.

Our light alone is sufficient, for it isall in all. The bigotry of exclusive-ness; the reservoir of all truth! Manyfind that there is more Light, other

Paths, several channels. The discoveryreveals the unsoundness of the claims toexclusiveness, and the limiting organi-zation suffers heavy losses of member-ship.

Where will it all end unless it endsat once? Why cannot these organiza-tions all of them operate on a basisof mutual cooperation in their princi-ples of Peace?

As no organization controls all thetruth, so no organization can ever hopeto control all the thinking and living ofthe millions of seekers in America,Each day brings to physical or spiritual

maturity hundreds of new seekers, bud-ding neophytes. In this new quota of

each day is sufficient material for eachorganization to find its new followerswithout seeking to circumvent the pro-gress of those already on Paths that sat-isfy and meet the needs of the individ-ualized individual.

Every word of criticism, everythought of disconcerting correctionabout the principles of the other move-ments, fosters doubt in the minds ofthose already on the Paths, and dis-courages the new seekers in their quest.

If the leaders of these brotherhoods

cannot remain at Peace, how can they

bring Peace into the lives of others? This is the logical query of the timidinvestigator.

For years AMORC has issued anannual appeal to all the principaloccult and mystical organizations inAmerica for cooperative affiliation.Except in the cases of a few small bodiesthe plea has been wafted away on thebreezes. But the year 1928 will recordthe fact that a great opportunity forsuch cooperative action was exceedingly

imminent. As we have said, six months

of the year have passed. Six wonderful,

glorious, opportune months remain.Miracles can happen in that period.

AMORC extends the plea because itis sufficiently large enough in member-ship and progressive enough in its in-creasing growth, to be unsuspected ofseeking strength at the sacrifice of thepower of other organizations. Its in-ternational alliances and its ageoldprinciples assure it of continued pros-perity. But it is a firm believer in

    Five Hundred Forty-four

    15/36

unity, in united constructive efforts, and in brotherly association.

AMORC has never forbidden itsmembers to unite with any other schoolor organization or system that is good

not even those which have for yearsprohibited its members from unitingwith us. And \ye have never insistedthat an applicant for help in our workmust abandon any other school ormovement which has been and is stillaiding him. We have recommended thebooks and the courses of study of manyorganizations in our magazine and les-son papers. We have helped to pro-mote the activities of other occult andmystical organizations in this country,as many have willingly testified. Wehave said in these very pages, many

complimentary and praiseworthythings about the leaders of other move-ments, even though som e have notfound space in their particular papersto say one word of praise about anyother organization.

We have had the books of these other organizations, and their propagandapapers, and their leaflets and lessons,on the shelves and tables of our readingrooms in many cities. We have evenpermitted many of them to use, with-out fee or donation, our Lodge andTemple rooms for public and privatelectures when they needed larger or dif-ferent olaces. We have sent all of themcomplimentary copies of our magazineand booklets, month after month, eventhough most of them request us to buytheir magazines in the open market. We have carried free, complimentary, advertisements of their books andcourses in our magazine, even thoughmost of them will not even sell us. atregular rates, any space in their publi-cations. We have written to them of-fering to broadcast any of their lectures

    or propaganda talks, free of any costor donation, through our radio station;

and on many occasions we have done so of our own volition when they havenot even replied to our letter. Wehave forwarded letters of inquiry aboutthem from seekers, requests for books

and literature from our own membersand strangers, and other helps in theirwork, even though most of them havenever acknowledged these letters.

We say all this not to boast of our attitude, which we feel is not only aproper thing to do, incumbent upon usas a part of the Great Work, but be-cause we wish to illustrate what wemean by cooperation and brotherlyhelp.

We say again to our members, as wehave said in hundreds of our lectures,

in our personal letters, and in this maga-zine: AMORC in America, or through-out the world, with all its branches, affiliations, ancient associations, andeminent Masters, is not in possession ofall the truth that is known, and is notthe only school or movement of greathelp to the various seekers in quest ofvarious goals. Nor are we the onlybody of Rosicrucian workers andstudents who have methods of helpingthe seekers in their individual problems. That AMORC stands preeminently inits particular field, is more widely

established, and more elaboratelyequipped, to carry on the Great Workdoes not mean that some truths, somefacts, some Light, cannot be found forsome individuals in other places.

Our very completeness in system ofoperation and courses of instructionplaces us in the position of being mind-ful. every hour of our existence, of thedebt we owe to the Cosmic, ito allmankind, to every seeker, and to everygood organization doing its best to helpin the Great Work. And, in this we

find Peace and send forth only thoughts of Peace and Power.

    The Passing of a Matter

Announcing The Transition of One of the Masters of The

    Great White Lodge

    By PROFUNDIS XIII.

    V V V V

Recently we received official noticeof the passing of one of the Masters ofthe Great White Lodge. The exactdate of the transition has not beenstated. We understand this, for sel-dom are the actual dates of these transi-tions given in terms of calendar months, but in terms of Cosmic cycles; and suchfigures are kept in the G. T . Archivesbecause of their value to the archivistof the Great White Lodge and theirlittle value to others.

We have received at AMORC head-quarters a copy of the official record ofthis great Master who was little knownin America but well known in foreignlands, and much beloved because of hisdevotion to the preparation o f man yexcellent philosophical discourses whichfound their way to many RosicrucianMasters for use in amending and im-proving the official lectures and teach

ings. This Master was known in this in-carnation as Helios and while he offic-iated secretly and silently at manyAmerican assemblies in the past seven-tyfive years, he was known by hisreal name to only a few hundred inthe Occidental world, and preferred tomove about or communicate withothers without revealing his true iden-tity.

Master Helios has had a very inter-esting series of incarnations, so far asthe known ones are recorded. Just

why a few of his incarnations are notrecorded has not been explained, butwe may believe that some of them havenot been verified sufficiently to warrantdefinite place in the G. T. Archives. Those which are known, and whichhave been proved beyond any question, are sufficient to give this truly greatman a most magnificent record ofevolving attainment.

We have receded, as part of thenotice of his recent transition, an at-tested copy of the Record of Helios

from the G. T. Archives, located inTibet, the extract being from Liber F,

page 7, reading as follows:Record No. 365,660, a true copy

prepared by Masnus.First known incarnation; The

earliest record thus far found relatingto this subject bears the date B. C. 250 under the name of Pollyanthus Tristus,a Roman student of science and theo-logical ethics. He was recorded byAristarchus, a Grecian Brother.

The second or next recorded in-carnation: This record is dated A. D.33, when he was known as John theBaptist (of Palestine and Jerusalem). He was a mystic and prophet. Thisrecord was filed by Joseph o f Aramathea.

The third or next recorded incar-nation; The next record is dated A.D. 349 when he bore the name Aris-

tarchus. He was a Grecian teacher of

philosophy and leader of a school inAthens. He held unique views regard-ing a future state of existence. Recordmade by Helonias.

The fourth or next recorded incar-nation: This record bears the date ofA. D. 1300. His name in this incar-nation was Abdul Ben Husan, an Ara-bian Astrologer, at the time of recordin Constantinople, where he was primeadviser to Othman, the Turkish ruler. This record was filed by Mar tile.

The fifth or last recorded incarna-

tion is the one just ended. He bore thename Helios and was born February7th, 1829. He became Grand Wardenof the G. T. Temple after being or-dained by Yenlo. and his record sub-mitted by Tarsus. His emblems (sig-nature marks) of recognition are.. . .

In a letter from this Master to theImperator of AMORC in Americadated June 9th. 1920, the Master said:

As you will see by the enclosedpapers. I have lived over four score andten in this incarnation, but I have no

feeling of being old, and never expect tohave. I am in good health, have no'ailments of any kind. It is statedthat up to the last moment of his in-carnation he was robust, though ninety nine years of age, and his transition

occured while he was asleep. In a more recent letter to the Im

perator he sent the following Messageas his official message to all mystics. The original was in Latin and the Eng-lish copy given herewith was prepared

by an associate of the Master who un-doubtedly found it difficult to put intohis translation the beauty of the originalwording.

    A Me s s a g e Fr o m He l io s .On awaking each morning, let your

first thoughts be that of Praise and

Thanksgiving to God, and then medi-tate upon Puri ty , endeavoring to realize

what it means: Hold the thought thatno impure thoughts must enter your

mind, that no impure action must everstain your body or soul, that youmust be pure in the threefold thread

of action, word and thought. Thinkof Purity as an attribute that is de-sirable for the development and mustbe accomplished, and when you go outinto the world for the duties of theDay, carry the memory of your medi-tation with you. Watch your actions

in meditative thought, allowing no im-pure action to stain your mind or body all the day long, steadily watching yourevery action that no impurity may soilit. Watch your words, speak no wordthat is impure, make no reference inyour talk to an unclean subject, neverpermit your tongue to be soiled by un-clean suggestions. Let every word you

utter be so pure that you would dare to speak it in the presence of your Master, realizing that He is cognizant of theslightest action or thought that would

stain your mind or body, that He hears

every word or phrase or sentence thatfalls from your lips. With this reali-

zation uppermost in your mind, yourthoughts will be pure: no impurethought or suggestion can enter yourmind; but perchance, should it come fora moment you can cast it out and befree from the stain that would other-wise make a blot on your soul. And having your mind thus grounded inpure thought, no unclean thoughts ofany one else can gain an entrance there-to, and so Purity will ever be the im-

    Five Hundred Fortj-seoen

pulse of your soul and guide you alongthe path that ends in Divine Purity.

    And again, each morning as youmeditate upon Purity, embrace thethought of Truth; think of the valueof truth to the world, its value inSociety, its value in your own character;

so that when you go out into the Worldof Business or Pleasure, you will not commit an action or speak a word that will give a false impression or conveya false idea. With Truth and Puritydominant in your mind you will notlie, nor steal, nor deceive, nor backbite, nor show contempt; you will not evenbe inaccurate, for to be inaccurate isspeaking a falsehood. T o be inaccurate

in recounting what you have seen orheard is speaking an untruth. All ex -

aggeration and painting of a story,

everything that is not consistent with

fact, so far as you know, everythingwhich has a shade of untruthfulness in

it, should be carefully avoided by you.So again, I would say that your everythought must be true, be as true as you

can make it, with no shadow of false-hood to pollute your mind.

And so with Compassion. Meditateon compassion in the morning, withyour thoughts on Purity and Truthand during the day you will seek topractice it. You will show all kindness

to people around you; you will do allthe service you possibly can to your

    family, servants, friends and neighbors.

Wherever you see want you will tryto relieve it, wherever you see sorrowyou will try to lighten the burden ofthose carrying it. You will live Com-passion as well as think it, and thus

make it a part of your character. And so with Fortitude. You should

think of a strong and noble soul, thesoul that no outer circumstances candepress or elate; the soul that is not

joyful over success or miserable over

failure; the soul that is not at the mercyof circumstances, sad today because

things are troublesome and joyful to-morrow because things are easy; and.

being thus founded upon the rock of

fortitude, you will be balanced andstrong: and, in the world about you. you will practice it; and. perchance, iftrouble should come to you, you willthink of the Eternal W orld of happi-ness, where there is no trouble: and ifloss of money comes to you. you willthink only of the wealth of wisdom

that is yours and cannot be taken awayfrom you; and if a dear friend or aloved one of your own should be takenfrom you, you will consider that nosoul can die, and that the bodies inwhich your loved ones have lived wereonly garments which they have thrownaside, because of their imperfection, andhave clothed themselves anew in gar-ments of neverending endurance.

    Making Dreams Come TrueBy Fr a . Ar t h u r B. Be l l

    v v v v v

Many of our members, particularlyat this time, are keenly interested ingathering together a sufficient amountof money with which to make the tripto Egypt next January. This is ratherclearly indicated in the vast amount ofcorrespondence arriving at headquarterseach week, thus proving beyond ques-tion that the prospect of a journey tomystical lands has intrigued the imagi-nation, and created an almost over-whelming desire on the part of each tobe amongst those who will take advan-

tage of this opportunity of a life time.It is just such an ambition as this, born of intense yearning, which fre-quently changes the entire course ofones life, for the reason, that thoughtbeing creative, the unseen forces ofnature immediately set about to bringinto manifestation the things needed tofulfill the Law, THAT THOUGHT MUST CORRELATE WITH ITSOBJECT.

Even as I write I have before meletters from certain of our members who wrote in some weeks ago stating that

they earnestly desired to be includedwith those making the trip, but un-fortunately did not have at the timesufficient means and no special pros-pects of getting it, but that they wouldbend every effort to do so. Of themany who wrote us in this vein, severalhave recently requested us to make theirreservations POSITIVE, stating thatthe way had now opened and financeshad become available. Herein lies aprofound secret, but only a secret be-

cause most of us so easily and casuallypass over the very Laws and Principles in our Lectures which specifically dealwith this very subject.

Let us see what happened to bringabout the change in the financial affairsof the few who have apparently been sofortunate. FIRS T, an intense desirecame into existence. SECOND, aFIRM MENTAL CONVICTION took possession of the thinker and, asit were, he or she said, Yes, I will go.As they said it, they believed it and

felt it, yes, they actually KNEW it,thus preventing even the slightest ele-ment of doubt from entering their con-sciousness. THIR D, activity tookpossession of them and they began toseek ways and means of bringing intomanifestation the thing they had de-sired and mentally created, for in theintensity of their thought the desirewent forth into the Cosmic. The seedwas planted; it began to grow; it waskept well nurtured, until presently thefruit of this thought matured and wasready for harvest and the socalled im-

possible had happened.Even those of us who learn first

hand of such demonstrations, veryoften permit ourselves to think that theresult was merely a piece of luck, goodfortune, or whatever you may pleaseto call it, and thereby admit to ourselvesthat the LAW of SUPPLY, if such aone really does exist, may work for onebut at least it does not work for all.How far from the truth! But, of onething you may be certain and that is

    Five Hundred Forty-eight

  • 8/11/2019 The Mystic Triangle, August 1928

    19/36

that the Law of Supply will neverapply itself. You are the one whomust apply itnot just part of it, but all of it complete in its entirety.

I am going to give you an example

of the working of this Law, and it

is a concrete one which came under

my actual observation. The man con-cerned had contracted some very heavyobligations on several pieces of pro-perty, and after a time he found it dif-ficult to meet the interest payments on

the loans. I know that the gentlemanpaved the way for his apparent mis-fortune at the time the money was bor-rowed when he wondered whether hewould be able to meet the large interestdemands. As time wore on he became

more and more doubtful and finally

was seized with a gripping fear of lossand ruination. One day the point was

reached when one of the loans came

due. All the while he had maintained

a consciousness of impending doom, being consumed with fear and dreadthat the loan could not be refinanced.Sure enough, it worked out this way.

Everyone approached rejected the loan. What could be done!

This man for a number of years had

been a devoted student of methaphysics.

He had studied and conjured with this

Law of Supply, for he believed in its

existence and had seen it work for

others, yet what a mess he had madeof it himself. A miracle happened! Iwonder if you will call it that? Let'ssee what it was and then you mayanswer the question for yourselves.

Our most unhappy friend suddenlycame to the realization that he had beenperverting this Law of Supply and ashe sat down with himself to analyze

minutely the things which were so un-pleasantly binding him hand and foot,

he began to see that the conditions he

was then experiencing, were absolutelyperfect fruits which had matured in

exact accordance with the kind of seeds

he had planted in his mind. Here wasone labelled LACK. Th is told himthat his income had failed, just as heexpected. He saw another which hadplainly inscribed upon it, FEAR. Hehad indulged in this to the limit. He

looked aeain and saw an exact replicaof DREAD. How he had dreaded thetime when those interest paymentswould come due and the hour when the

    Five Hundred Forty-nine

refinancing of that big loan wouldcome.

His seeds had been planted, matured

and now the crop was ready for har-vest. It was bounteousthe garden was

filled yet nothing in it was what he

actually wanted. Alas, his own chick-ens had come home to roost!

When the survey of his labors wascompleted and he understood that hehad planted unwisely, he came to afirm, positive conclusion, and that wasthat he would plough under all of thisundesirable and unwanted rubbish andreplant his garden. This, was themiracle. At last he had come to a pointof real understanding and now knewthat the wonderful Law of Supply hadnot been applied at all. It was a most

    difficult undertaking and required some

ninety days to completely uproot all of

the negative and useless thoughts, butit was accomplished. During the periodof adjustment he sought only PEACE

and HARMONY, and again, andagain, yes, hundreds of times he had to

bring these two beautiful, comfortingthoughts back into his mind to replacethe negative ideas which had gainedsuch prominence and power.

The troublesome loan was refi-nanced yet it was said to be impossible.

Another property was sold, and thisalso was regarded as impossible but the

Law was now working, and could not

be impeded or stopped, because con-structive thoughts are power themselves

and may neither be denied or thwarted. The fact that conditions were reversedand fortune smiled again was not the

miracle but rather the perfectly natural

working of the Law. The miracle was

in the correct reasoning, and the under-standing that came to our friend in his

hour of darkest need.Let us now go back to the beginning

of our story that we may study for a

moment another factor in the case. Yousee even at the outset that two separate

and distinct sets of thoughts were givenconsideration. First, was the thought

that all would be well. Second, fear,

dread, and doubt then entered and were

    given the greatest consideration while

poor little hope was permitted to wither

and die, being completely crowded outby the rank, fast growing weeds whichwere thoughtlessly given the right ofway.

Thus, it will be seen that if we wish

our desires, the real ones, to come into expression, we must cherish, cultivateand protect them. In other words, keep the garden well weeded and there-by give your hopes and aspirations theneeded opportunity to work for us. Ifyou do not receive that which you haveearnestly desired you may be sure thatyour work has somewhere been neg-lected. How easy it is to blame anotherfor our troubles, yet in the last analysiswe must admit, if even only to our-selves that our thinking is responsiblefor these trials and tribulations for wemust reap as we sow. It is inescapable.

If you wish comfortable surround-ings and favorable conditions, thinkupon these things and make yourthoughts so pleasant and charming inyour mental picture that you can seeyourself thus surrounded and an in-tegral part of your plan. Then strive, strive to open the way so that you may

be prepared to receive your creationwhen it is finished.

Do not attempt at first to deal with the larger matters as you will mostlikely have difficulty in dealing withthem, because of the question which

will arise in your mind of the proba-bility of their accomplishment. Startwith the smaller matters and as eachdemonstration is made you begin toestablish CONFIDENCE and eachadded effort is made the easier. Thequestion of probability is an importantone for as most of you have learned inthe Lectures, the objective mind mustfirst reach a positive conclusion, a firmmental conviction as to what is to bedone before the suggestion or commandmay be passed on to the subjectivemind, for this mind reasons deduc-tively. Therefore, be sure of what youwant and then stand firm!

    MANY SAY THIS

Editor, Mystic Triangle:Attunement to poetry, like attune

ment to psychic forces, is a matter ofgrowth. Unlike prose, poetry makesits appeal to the emotions. If the finerfeelings are atrophied they cannot beexpected to respond to poetry.

There are those who cannot distin-guish between God Save the Kingand Home Sweet Home, and yetmusic is quite generally consideredworth while. There are those to whom the colour scheme of a fried egg makesa much stronger appeal than that of asunset, and yet our Father in Heaven

continues to send the sunsets. While there are no doubt those towhom bad prose brings more than goodpoetry, there must still be some fewwho can rise to the heights required bypoetry. Should the editor disregardtheir tastes altogether?

Editor, Mystic Triangle:I do not know just how to express

my appreciation and that of the Na-tural Evesight Institute for your letterof the 16tb ult. to me. Tha t is wh vI have delayed in answering it. Ifeveryone would take the same attitudetoward things worth while in life asthe Rosicrucian Brotherhood takes, theAge of Spectacles would indeed soonpass away along with many otherthings that have no more reason forbeing and continuing.

    SOMETHING WRONG SOME-WHERE

Editor, Mystic Triangle:We have noticed in both lectures and

the Triangle where you have urged allRosicrucians to get right into the workof the church of which they are mem-bers and endeavor to accomplish all thegood they can, because of the great goodbeing rendered by all churches.

We have been given to understandbv our church one of the small onesof this city that Rosicrucians are notwelcome there, and one of our Rosi-crucian sisters who was doing excel-lent work as a Sunday School teacherwas removed from that position. She

accidentally dropped her Rosicrucianmembership card in church and theSuperintendent saw it and expressed hisdispleasure. We know that we willnot be welcome to aid the church inany way. What would you advise usto do to help in church work?

    Mr. and Mrs. E.W.P.

Editor, Mystic Triangle:In your July number the article on

    Dreams was particularly interesting to

me. May I add my humble opinionon the significance of some dreams? Itis this: some of the impressions receivedare undoubtedly of past incarnations;else why do we frequently see ourselvesin an entirely different form and aseemingly different personality, and gothrough experiences that we know wehave never gone through in this presentlife, and not at all likely to go through?I have just recently had such a dreamand it will be of great help to me inin my affairs.

    THIS STARTS AN ARGUMENT

    Editor, Mystic Triangle:

I think you should add a visit to

Vienna to your next Winter's trip. Itis a wonderful city. I have seen nearlyall the capitols of Europe and know none more worthy of a visit. Such atrip as you plan is the treat of a lifetime, therefore make it really worthwhile and do not miss a chance of see-ing Vienna. It would mean only alittle delay in the trip and cost onlyabout twentyfive dollars more. And,why do you lower your circular matterby using the Union Labels on them.Don't you know that the Unions havelowered the standard of workmanship?

Mrs. B.F.G., Vienna, Austria(To go to Vienna would mean add-

ing several days to the trip, and a costthat is not desired by the majority. There are hundreds of places to be seen.To make a trip economical, only placesalong a general route could be added, and all do not agree about the extremeimportance of Vienna; and twentyfivedollars here and there for extras are veryimportant. We have been informed by PostalInspectors that the man who had been

No pleading on our part, despite our heavy loss, can affect thesituation, for it is a Federal case andour Government is the prosecutingparty, not AMO RC. But, the manspredicament, causing his own sufferingfor many years and the suffer ing o f hiswife and two small children, cameabout through persons disobeying ourcontinued injunction: do not send cur-rency in letters without registering

them . Hundreds of letters were opened

and the money extracted, because hun-dreds of persons tempted the man with their money in unregistered letters.Cosmically speaking, is the Karma ofhis crime on him alone? Think ofthat for a moment. It was his firstcrime, and he has been employed in thePost Office a long time. He stole only AMORC letters or remittances, and wastempted by the number of them daily, that contained currency. Why Try toGet Tich?By Fr a . Le o n a r d J. Ed i c k

    v v v v vCHAPTER I.

Ques: W hat is the chance of evergetting rich?

Answer: A good chance, if you arelucky; little or none if you are not.

How do I know whether I am lucky or not?

Look back over your past ponderwell over the happenings since child-hood. Would you consider that luckfollowed in your path? Consider yourstruggles, your aspirations, has luck

followed you in consecutive order, ordoes it look as if many of your en-deavors have been for naught?

What has luck to do with riches? Isnot effort, determination and hardwork more important than this theoryabout luck?

No. How many folk do you know who have put forth effort, determina-tion and hard work all their lives, and accomplished little. Something on theorder of luck has not been with them. They have still a long way to go toenter the realm of their hearts desire

the possession of a fortune. Have theynot failed to succeed? Is not the onlyelement lackingpure, plain, everydayluck?

Well, if some get rich by means ofpersistent endeavor, why is it thatothers who put forth the same effort

fail to achieve the same goal?Because there are three elements that

must work in your favor if you getrich, or are born rich, whichever wayyou look at it, namely:

    1. Right Environment.2. Right Knowledge, Capacity and

Action.3. Right Time.If these three are in your favor, and

have been in your favor since childhood, your outlook is very encouraging.

If not, what then? Why then the best thing to do is to

resign yourself to your present condi-tion. Call yourself by name, and say,I am not Henry Ford, Charles Chap-lin or Lindbergh, but merely myself,We forget one important thing, andthat is that we are individuals. We

try to live someone elses life, or atleast try to achieve his goal. Foolishcreatures trying to do somethingsome one else has already achievedfor himself.

Well then, what shall we do?Live our own life. Take things as

they come. Cease striving toward theimpossible goal. Do not try too hardto get rich save all that effort. And many who have tried, can certainlylook back over their past and find that

a great deal of the time, indeed, hasbeen lost. Despise Not The Day OfSmall Th ings. This maxim is wellworth repetition. Be satisfied with less

for the present at least. The momentyou free your mind of pots of gold at the foot of the rainbow, you feel yearsyounger. Life itself takes on anotherhue. Gradually regain your rightfulself. Express your own personality in-stead of that of another, and the resultwill be less worry, a more pleasant stateof mind, and a good measure of con-tentment.

CHAPTER II.Time and Happiness.Very few realize the value of time,

our greatest asset. Time heals all theinjuries of life. When you are sick, time brings about recovery. Peace fo l-lows war. Have you ever stopped toanalyze your own life? Have youthought of what a short span it is?Remember Shakespeares Seven AgesOf Man?

The only time that will ever meananything to you is the present. Th epast is gone. T o think about it is

wasting energy, with no result whatso-ever. Tom orrow is in the making, andconditions may then be altpgether dif-ferent from what you expect.

You are aware of but one fact, andthat is that you can use the present, and use it either to your advantage ordisadvantage.

Life means happiness for happinessis the aim of life. Are you reallyhappy? Are you really getting whatyou deserve out of life? Are yourhours, spent in figuring and planning

on how you can get rich, spent fornaught? If you have failed, ye s ifnot, proceed, if that is your desire. Ifluck, perchance, is against you, turnthe tide by changing your thought tothat of life the present, and happi-

ness. Perhaps, after a while, things

will seem different. A change is bound

to take place, and with it will comesome measure of contentment thevery thing that most desire.

You certainly cannot secure happi-ness by spending all your tim
