“Goodbye” “Welcome”
There is something difficult and painful about saying
good bye yet it is important that we grant ourselves the
opportunity to do so. My first important and difficult
farewell took place almost 45 years ago when I bid good
by to my family and friends and traveled to Missouri to
begin my priestly ministry.
Now I say good by to the Community of St. Patrick’s in
order to help in our churches outreach and welcome the
Hispanic community in the Northeast corner of our
Diocese.
I say Welcome to Father John Schmitz who will begin
his priestly ministry here at St. Patrick’s. I say welcome
knowing that you the people will continue to extend a
welcome to him in the months ahead.
I thank the many people who have helped promote the
Kingdom of God among the people who live and visit the
Lake of the Ozarks.
I thank you and God Bless!

St. Patrick’s and The Mother’s Shrine has
been designated by Bishop Gaydos as a spe-
cial place of prayer for pilgrims during the
Holy Year of Mercy.
HOLY YEAR OF MERCY
“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his
mercy endures forever.” (Psalm 118:1) Not once, but
3 times David proclaims, “His mercy endures
forever.” at the end of each of the next three verses.
We hear this refrain again in Psalm 136 as David
sings of God's greatness. In each of the 26 verses of
this Psalm he proclaims, “for his mercy endures
forever.”

THANK YOU
Diane Hennessy thanks everyone for prayers and well wish-
es for her recent month long hospitalization at Lake Region-
al Hospital and her present time at the Bluffs skilled nursing
facility in Columbia.
She also thanks the parishioners at St Patrick's for their par-
ticipation in her work to enhance the liturgical musical life
of the Mass and other prayer services. She regrets that she
will not be here to continue that work in the future, but
God's will be done. God bless you all. Diane Y Hennessy,
1607 Handley Place, Columbia, MO 65203 321-506-8533.
THANK YOU
I would like to thank our parish family for all the love and
support I received after my brother's passing. The kind
words, cards sent, masses said and candles lit gave me
great comfort at a very difficult time. Donna Griffith

St. Irenaeus - June 28
St. Irenaeus (130-200) was born in Asia Minor,
studied in Rome, and went to Lyons as a mis-
sionary priest. He was an early Church father
and apologist, and his writings were formative
in the early development of Christian theology.
St. Irenaeus was well trained and had great
patience and was very protective of apostolic
teaching, but prompted more by a desire to win
over his opponents than to prove them in error.
Unless all can share a claim in victory, truth
will continue to be rejected by the losers. His
name means "lover of peace. " May we learn
that "a human being's true glory is to persevere
in the service of God."
WOMAN'S RENEWAL WEEKEND hands I
Please consider joining with women of St.
Patrick’s faith community for a spirit filled
renewal weekend September 10th & 11th
“The Christ Renews His Parish weekend was
a remarkably prayerful experience, a spir-
itual tune up. I came away with a deeper
awareness of God’s unconditional love and
new ways to respond to that love”

THOUGHTS ON THE LITURGY
To postpone responding to a commitment
when God gives an invitation usually means
rejecting that invitation.
Elisha in the first reading and the man in the
Gospel passage, say they are willing to follow
God’s invitation, but they want to have a de-
lay. Jesus‘s statement about the man plowing
who looks back refers to the crooked rows the
farmer will make if he doesn’t keep his eye
on a distant object that directs his movement
in a straight line.
MOTHER’S SHRINE
Totes for TaTas
It’s that time of the year again when we start collecting purses to raise funds for breast cancer patients. Mon-ey is given to Lake Regional to pay for things not cov-ered by their insurance, such as wigs, massages to relieve pain, rides to treatment, etc.
Please donate your gently used purses. The Sale will be October 13th. Last year we raised $13,000.00. Help us exceed that this year.
Place purses in the specially marked box in the vesti-bule.
The Spiritual Works of Mercy are kind acts by which we help our neighbors with their every-day spiritual and emotional needs.
The Third Spiritual Work of Mercy -
Console the Doubtful
Everyone has moments of doubt in their faith journey. Nevertheless, we should always re-member that Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life and turn to him along our way.
• • Has someone asked you for advice? Ori-ent your response to Christ, who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
• • Follow Christ with the witness of your life
so that others may see God's love re-
vealed in your actions.
• • Accompany a friend who is struggling with
believing to join a parish group for service
or faith formation, share a book you found
useful in dealing with your friend's faith
concern, and worship at Sunday Mass.
You can now follow us on twitter https://twitter.com/ Natl.ShrineMary Year of Mercy—what have you done to mark this Year of Mercy in your life?
First– make a pilgrimage. Almost none of our parishioners have taken advantage of having the Holy Door here. Come to a Wednesday or Saturday Pilgrimage and gain the blessings and indulgence.
After that—here are some simple sugges-tions:
Take a meal to someone who is ill.
Volunteer to do manual labor to help in the upkeep of a not-for-profit agency.
Donate to ministries that offer free Cath-olic burials to those who are unable to af-ford one.
Volunteer at a hospital or nursing home.
Take the Eucharist to the homebound.

Plenary Indulgence continued:
You may receive the plenary indulgence yourself, or offer it for a person in purgatory.
As for the sick and the elderly, the Holy Father says, "For them it will be of great help to live their sickness and suffering as an experience of closeness to the Lord who in the mystery of his Passion, death and Resurrection indicates the royal road which gives meaning to pain and loneliness. Living with faith and joyful hope this moment of trial, re-ceiving communion or attending Holy Mass and community prayer, even through the various
means of communication, will be for them the means of obtaining the Jubilee Indulgence."
