“Our ordinary mind always tries to persuade us that we are nothing but acorns and that our greatest happiness will be to become bigger, fatter, shinier acorns; but that is of interest only to pigs. Our faith gives us knowledge of something better: that we can
become oak trees.” – Ernst Frederich Schumacher
Ernst Friedrich "Fritz" Schumacher (16 August 1911 – 4 September 1977) was an internationally influential economic thinker with a professional background as a
statistician and economist in Britain. (Wikipedia.org)

Step 2 – Choose a Team Leader- (10 minutes) - This is a servant leadership role. This person will be responsible for:
• Facilitating communication between meetings to various members and chapter leadership, as needed.
• Ensuring that assignments which are needed for the next meeting are completed, so that the next meeting can proceed without wasting other team member’s time and/or causing the process to become bogged down..
• Ensuring that the meeting place is prepared to optimize team member interchange and consensus.
• Adjusting meeting schedules to ensure each meeting accomplishes its agenda, as needed.
• Utilizing a time-keeper to keep the process moving and to remind team members how much time is left before moving on to the next step.
Step 2A – All who desire to lead this result team must speak up now by indicating a desire to do the work of the leader and to serve the team.
If you have only one volunteer, then proceed to step 3.
If no one desires to lead the team, then please see the chapter
coordinator to locate an individual who is willing to accept the task.
Step 2B – If you have more then one nomination, then have another team member take some 3 X 5 cards and write 1, 2, 3, etc on separate cards and have each potential team leader draw a card from a hat. Whoever chooses the card marked #1 will be the team leader. You may pray that the Lord guide the process to the best outcome for achieving the desired result. Your team’s leader will be? ____________Bill_________________________________ Step 2C – Choose a member of the team that will watch the time for each step outlined in this workbook and will keep the team informed of how much time is left for each step. In this way, the leader and the time-keeper can work together to ensure that the team is staying focused and on task – in an intensive, yet kind and thoughtful manner. (Each meeting is designed to accomplish tremendous gains in a 2 hour time frame.) The time-keeper should begin timing steps immediately and must quickly find a good way to keep the team pressing toward the completion of this workbook. This is a position that requires tact, gentleness and a heart for excellence coupled with an ability to facilitate the team toward greatness through the discipline of time constrained exercises. Step 3 – Establish a Regular Meeting Schedule - (5 minutes) – This is an open conversation to determine a two hour time frame with a set frequency that allows every team member to be available for each meeting. The team leader must send an email to each team member as a follow-up and reminder. By following the steps in this workbook, your team will be ready to present and/or implement solutions after seven meetings. This is only possible if each team member is prepared to make a high intensity commitment to attend each meeting and participate equally in the work load and items needed to be completed between meetings. (Tip: It can be helpful for your team to take a moment and address the issue of team member absenteeism. Talk about how your team wants to handle the issue of team members missing meetings.)

Step 4 – Be Prepared to Have a Successful Meeting - (5 minutes) – The leader must ensure and/or coordinate a meeting space whereby (if resources allow):
• Teams can meet at a round table with adequate space for each team member in an environment that is reasonably comfortable and free from distractions.
• Teams have available for each meeting a flip chart stand with paper, ink markers,
masking tape, pens, blank sheets of paper and some 3 X 5 cards. The team leader should gather these items and ensure they are set-up and accessible prior to team members arriving for the meeting – these items help individuals facilitate conversations and group tasks. (Optional but not necessary: Your team might find it helpful to have a laptop computer available that has internet access.)

Step 5 – Set Ground Rules - (10 minutes) – Groups of people often work best together in teams if they establish some ground rules for how they will interact. These ground rules represent the interpersonal boundaries and values that help people know how to communicate with each other in a way that is useful and effective. Step 5A – The leader goes around the table asking each member what one item they believe will help the group work well together. Step 5B – Group members should give their answers in short 2-5 word statements. Step 5C – The leader must record the ground rules on a flip chart page and then tape the flip chart page(s) to the wall so all team members can see and record the ground rules.

Step 6 – Determine Your Team’s Result - (1 hour, 20 minutes) – The outcome of this step is the core that drives this entire team effort. For this step, your team will need to reach consensus on several important factors. To understand results remember that they are SMART and that they bear spiritual FRUIT. Natural results are:
– Specific – Measurable – Attainable – Realistic – Timely
– Example - We will educate 1000 people on the basics of the US
Constitution in York County by Dec 2010.
Spiritual results are:
– Freeing – Righteous – Unifying – Inspiring – Triumphant
– Example – We will enlighten our neighbors by ensuring that they are
lovingly inspired by the Godly wisdom that guided America’s founding fathers.
As you can see, by being SMART we are able to stay focused and concise on what our team must do to accomplish and measure tangible tasks. By being FRUIT-ful, we are able to stay focused on being bringers of salt and light.

“When once a republic is corrupted, there is no possibility of remedying any of the growing evils but by removing the corruption and restoring its lost principles; every
other correction is either useless or a new evil.”

Step 11 – List your Team’s Perceptions - (10 minutes) – Perceptions should be accepted from all team members without judgment or evaluation. Everyone sees and experiences the world a little bit differently. Even though we all share the basic tenants of the Christian faith, the way that we extrapolate political policy issues can be quite different. Therefore, please respect each others input and seek to understand the perceptions of other team members - as collectively your team will be able to form a better picture of your issues derived from the diversity of your team. Go around the table and ask each team member, “Name one good thing and one bad thing about the current policy or issue?” Try and force yourself to think of something for each side of the list (no matter how personally offensive) as it may help you to see the issue in ways that can lead to problem solving and innovation.

The US Constitution is foundational to freedom. The US Constitution is designed to balance power. We look to the Constitution as a document that draws the line for which man can make laws for the times and provides us with a foundation of principles that transcend the evolution of society. The US Constitution protects basic liberties and protects the people against the tyranny of governmental control.
The US Constitution needs to be flexible to work in a modern world. Power is less relevant today because of technology. The word “democracy” does not appear once in the Constitution. In a global world the US Constitution is an ancient document that stands in the way of globalization and prosperity for the rest of the world.

Survey Question / Category – “The rise of Executive power in the post-9/11 era can be
attributed to many things. Chief among them are strident assertions of unfettered
Article II powers during times of crisis. At the end of the day, though, what might
change the constitutional landscape in terms of Executive authority and separation of
powers more than anything else are the dynamic, organic trends toward greater
globalization, liberalization of political economies, and technological revolution.
These trends deemphasize national boundaries, enable non-statist transnational
connections, and promote markets over bureaucracies – and thus they are often
thought to erode state authority and empower non-state actors, including al Qaeda.”

Cost Category or Item - National security was the prime reason our founding fathers formed a federal government. The decline in defense spending, which in 2001 had dropped to 3.7% of the economy's national income, below where it started - following a 5-decade downward slope. This multi-decade declining defense ratio camouflaged a new direction for government - - surging social programs and spending. This trend calls into question our nation's focus and readiness to detect and deter major national security challenges - - compared to the priority focus outlined by our nation's founding fathers.

longest in modern U.S. economic history in which inflation-adjusted median
household income failed to surpass an earlier peak. The Census Bureau has not yet
released household income data for 2008, but the current recession (which officially
began in December 2007) likely kept this key indicator below its 1999 peak again
last year, and may keep it there into the next decade.

Many majority Muslim countries have a dual system in which the government is secular but Muslims can choose to bring familial and financial disputes to sharia courts. Government under God. In those Muslim countries where Islam is the official religion listed in the constitution, sharia is declared to be a source, or the source, of the laws. Growing at an estimated 15 percent annually, Islamic banking and finance is a worldwide industry that modifies modern business practices to conform to the rules of sharia.

(It is best to re-read from page 1 through to this page – including introductory information, tips, exercise instructions and the team’s research and analysis) – (This process is designed to prime your mind for the next step – so please be thorough and focused). Useful Thoughts It is really important for the church to be involved in helping our country stay true to its roots and foundational principles. It is vital that we present this information in a way that engages people in a positive and peaceful manner – we must share the truth in love. It is important for us to pray consider our ideas carefully, so that we bring lasting solutions – not a new set of problems – brought forth by anger or over-reaction to the situation without careful contemplation or revelation.

As others from the community connect with your current ideas and want to get involved, they can be mobilized and get them working on your team’s other ideas
Do not forget to invite people you meet to join the Oak Initiative.

Step 37 – Choose a Project Manager - (10 minutes) – This is a servant leadership-administrative role. Ideally, this will be someone other then the team leader who facilitated the concept phase of this process. This person will be responsible for:
• Facilitating communication between volunteers to ensure coordination of your team’s action steps.
• Tracking the implementation process to ensure that no bottlenecks are occurring. • Over-seeing the quality of the volunteer work. • Maintaining a level of enthusiasm and encouragement while assisting other
volunteer workers, as needed. • Keeping the project on a reasonable timetable – with a goal of having the project
implemented with impact within six weeks. • Tracking areas that are not working well and utilizing field data to adjust the
process and approach for potential use by other Oak Initiative chapters. • Keeping a lessons learned addendum for inclusion with the team’s final report
after implementation to help other Oak Initiative chapters. Step 37A – All who desire to be the project manager for the implementation of your team’s solutions must speak up now by indicating a desire to do the work of the project manager and to serve the implementation team.
If you have only one volunteer, then proceed to step 3.
If no one desires to coordinate the implementation, then please see
the chapter coordinator to locate an individual who is willing to accept the task.
Step 37B – If you have more then one nomination, then have another team member take some 3 X 5 cards and write 1, 2, 3, etc on separate cards and have each potential project manager draw a card from a hat. Whoever chooses the card marked #1 will be the project manager. You may pray that the Lord guide the process to the best outcome for achieving the desired result. Your team’s project manager will be? _________________________________________

Please Write Your Results Statement - Please Write Your Fruit Statement - Step 39 – Implement Your Team’s Solutions - (10 minutes) – Your team is now morphing from a group that researches and conceptualizes issues and solutions - to one that activates and organizes constructs. Some ideas for this transition include:
• This is the time to get very excited and energetic – you are about to find out what works and what needs to be refined.
• This is the time to shine bright – you are about to impact your community with
the salt and light you are called to be.
• This is the time to focus – you have worked for eight weeks to be prepared to make a difference – your focus and dedication for the next six weeks will help to ensure that your team’s efforts are fruitful.
• This is the time to have great faith – you may experience some of the greatest
miracles and displays of God’s love imaginable – we all know, many great miracles take place in the marketplace – and that is where your implementation will take place.
• This is the time to have lots of fun – some of the most meaningful relationships
and connections you will ever make in your life can come from working alongside others while helping, serving or otherwise benefitting your community with a Christian worldview.
• This is the time to stay engaged – a key to success will be regular communication
with your team coordinator – additional team meetings are not recommended at this point, as it is important to transition from talking to doing at this juncture.
• This is the time to multiply – During this phase; you will likely be meeting many
people and working with others from outside your group. This is a great opportunity to invite these people to join your chapter and to become a member of the Oak Initiative. In this way you will be engaging others, while implementing solutions – so when your chapter starts another project next quarter – you will have more members solving more problems.
You are now prepared, so be released and expect great things to happen.
