November 2015 The official publication of the Antelope Valley Amateur Radio Club
President’s Corner
Margie Hoffman KG6TBR
I would like to thank all the
members who attended the last
General Meeting and showed their
support for the Officers and Board
Members for this year.
The elections were non-contested
except for the Board positions,
enabling us to keep most of the
present folks holding the positions
and they will serve as your
Officers and Board for the year
2016. Carol AF6OV moves up to
the position of your new President,
while her husband Eugene
KG6SLC becomes our new Vice
President and will tackle securing
all speakers for the coming
monthly meetings. Dan W6DAS
will again serve as Secretary as
will Gary WA6TWT as Treasurer.
Gary WA6WFC will continue as
your Master at Arms and I will
move over to Ex-Officio advising
the Officers and Board in any area
that I can be of assistance. We
have two new Board members and
they are: Dick Miller KJ6W and
Matt Stewart K6MES. In the only
non-elected but a voting position,
Keith K6GXO will of course
continue as club Trustee.
Congratulations to all. Please see
the list in the minutes as published
is this newsletter and refer to the
bottom to find the contact info for
all who serve.
Each year we have an event called
Anchors Away, or as I refer to it: (Continued on page 4)

New Business:
1) HAMCON wrap up meeting was
held on Nov 3 for the convention held
The Short Circuit 4
The Junk-A-Thon. Members show
up with their items for sale and
many of us look forward to this
event as our own private tailgate
sale. We come to it expecting to
find bargains and things that we
didn’t know we needed until we
see them on the table. This year, I
was not disappointed in the
amount of items brought for sale,
but more so in how many of us
participated. I think in the future,
we should all try to take advantage
of this opportunity when it is
presented to us. It is free, it is
many times interesting, and we
basically have a captive audience
and a warm venue in which to hold
this event. Remember, although
we only hold this event once a
year, we occasionally have one or
two items brought in for sale by
our members and in addition, ham
radio equipment can be offered
through the use of our Short
Circuit newsletter.
One item we discussed this month
at our Board meeting was how to
“grow the club”. This is a topic
that brings a lot of questions and
mostly very few answers. We
need to get more involved, share
information and work together to
make this happen.
I asked for suggestions in this area
and am also asking for members to
let me know the answer to a few
questions. What is it that keeps
you interested? What do you want

President’s Corner...
Margie served tirelessly as
the AVARC President for
two years, and is very ac-
tive in numerous amateur
radio activities in the
Southland, including The
Los Angeles Area Council
of Amateur Radio Clubs
and Baker-to-Vegas.
I’m excited to have the opportu-
nity to serve as your President in
2016! Looking forward to hearing
your ideas on how the club can
meet your needs, stimulate your
ham radio interests, and provide
opportunities for you to learn,
serve, and grow—all while having
radio fun! More to follow…
(Continued from page 1)
From the VEEP...
to see, learn or share at our
meetings? Please feel free to
contact any of the Officers or
Board members and let them
know how you feel so we can
come up with relevant ideas and
retain and gain members of the
Antelope Valley Amateur Radio
Club for now and into our future.
Remember, that the next meeting
will be held one week earlier in
the month due to the Thanksgiving
holiday and so; we will meet on
Thursday, November 19.
I look forward to seeing everyone
at the meeting, so until then, keep
finding ways to incorporate your
ham skills into your everyday life
and most importantly, have fun!
