WATERSTONES TO STOP SELLING KINDLE, BOOK SALES SURGE

Bright lights, good coffee ... and great books (even hardbacks) are the key to injecting new life into bookshops, says James Daunt, chief executive of Waterstones.

The UK’s largest book retailer is removing Amazon’s Kindle ebooks from its stores nationwide and replacing them with print books due to “pitiful sales”. Waterstones, which teamed up with Amazon in 2012 to sell the electronic reader in its stores, will use the display space for physical paperbacks and hardbacks instead.

James Daunt, the managing director of the retailer, told The Bookseller: “Sales of Kindles continue to be pitiful so we are taking the display space back in more and more shops.

Sales are way up for paper books. Read all about itHERE

We had a particularly good turnout. The quiz itself wasn't too difficult except for the fact each possible answer in the multiple choice quiz was also a Best Picture nominee. Unfortunately, I wasn’t specific enough about question #11 as my intention was to learn your favourite book from the 10 books listed in the questonaire. Some of you listed your favourite book EVER instead. Sorry about that. With that in mind, the number one answer for the 10 books listed was Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier, followed closely by my favourite - The Godfather! Thanks again for your participation.

The following are the correct answers:

1. A Daphne Du Maurier novel set in Cornwall, starring Joan Fontaine/Rebecca

2. This movie is based on a Shakespearean play, starring Laurence Olivier/Hamlet3. A bit of an adventurous travel movie by Jules Verne, starring David Niven/Around the World in 80 Days4.
