September is NEW
GENERATIONS Month
The New Generation has always
been a partner in Rotary
Service. This year and onwards,
however, they become not just
partners but an integral part of
the Rotary Club endeavors.
In the historic decision last April
2010 by the Council of
Legislation, Service to New
Generations has been added as
Rotary’s Fifth Avenue of Service.
Everyone lauds this decision.
The New Generations finally find
a home in the Rotary Club.
Rotary Club of Makati Olympia’s
service aspirations have always
been hinged on the integration
of the youth in its endeavors.
To it, this landmark decision is
very timely with its chartering.
During the organizational stage
of the club, it has begun its
work with and for the youth.
Through this period, they have
been groomed to be an integral
part of the newly chartered club.
The first order of the day then
for RCMO was to register to RI
the sponsored Interact and
Rotaract Clubs with RI. Three
Interact Clubs have been duly
registered as of August 25,
2010 while it is just awaiting the
release of the certification of the
3 Rotaract clubs. At present, it
is the process organizing and
registering its fourth sponsored
Interact club, the Interact Club
of St. Genevieve School of
Pateros.
The relationship between RCMO
and its sponsored Rotaract and
Interact clubs has worked very
well. The youth have given the
new club more zest and
vibrance. Rightly so, for it
believes that Rotary’s future is
made more secure because of
the New Generations.
RCMO has a lot to celebrate this
September. It pays tribute to the youth! Cheers!

One book that I cannot
forget and from time to
time re-read is the 1983
bestseller, The Road Less
Traveled by M. Scott Peck.
In a gist, the author says
that “life is difficult” and
in the Age of Anxiety,
personal growth is dependent on the
acceptance of this truth.
We are in the Rotary world. Like our life, it is
not easy. It is complicated and also “difficult”.
Oftentimes, we hear or even say that Rotary is
a voluntary organization thus unlike in the
corporate world where managers can execute
the mandates of their companies within the
bounds of the office policies and the law, in
Rotary, it is different. We are heterogeneous
in terms of membership in our club and we
also deal with people from all walks of life.
This diversity in personalities makes Rotary
interesting and at the same time challenging.
That is why Rotary has ups and downs as in
our personal lives. One day, we are so
passionate about Rotary, the next, we are
“low” bat. As a new club, I am pretty sure
that all of us are facing this challenge. We
have just finished with the celebration of
August as the Membership Month and in our
meetings, we have often voiced out the
concern on how we can elevate the passion of
our members so that we will have better
attendance and participation in service
activities.
How timely that in September, Rotary
celebrates New Generations Month. Let us be
inspired by the tireless exuberance of the
youth as they help us carry out Cont’d at page 2…

THE FOUR WAY TEST
of the things we think, say and do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and
BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all
concerned?

our service endeavors.
Our personal growth as Rotarians begins
when we have embraced that being so is
difficult and challenging. We can say that we
are ready to serve only if we have accepted
the enormity of this task and take this as a
life-long responsibility. Yes, not many
choose to be Rotarians but we have chosen
this road to travel.
Let us make it a fulfilling journey!
