LEARNING ABOUT WHAT’S INSIDE
The Burlington School's fourth grade class enjoyed a treat last Friday: Dr. Bryan Latham joined his son Christopher and teacher Jayne Woodruff to answer questions about anatomical function, medical
education and his experience as a surgeon. Our students were already able to discuss organ responsibilities like sugar decomposition, cell regeneration and digestion - and asked intelligent
questions about the role genetics play in the acquisition of life-threatening disease. Of the emotional nature of performing surgery on patients, Dr. Latham says, "It's always a rush - it's like playing a sport.
It's exciting, and rewarding as well." A full story on this exciting classroom presentation will be featured in a new neighborhood publication, Around the Country Club in March.

Where else would the entire Elon Women’s Softball team come to support our JV boys? Where
else would we excitedly celebrate the contributions of our seniors? Well, of course – here on home court in Holt Gymnasium. Spartan Spirit is palpable here. We’re so proud of our student-
athletes and the many talents they bring to their respective sports.
SPRING SPORTS: STARTING SOON With the start of Spring Sports right around the corner, here is the latest on start dates and times: MS Girls Soccer Monday, February 22nd, 3:45-5:15pm on GT Field MS Co-ed Golf (Head Coach, Doug Massey) TBA MS Co-ed Tennis (Head Coach Stefan Sumner) Monday, February 29th at Alamance Country Club, 4:00-5:15pm (Practices will be each Monday and Wednesday) MS and Varsity Track & Field (Head Coach, Kevin Crist) First practice is Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 4:00p-5:30 on the GT Field; regular practices will take place Monday-Friday at 4:00p on the GT Field. Varsity Girls Soccer (Head Coach, Jayne Woodruff) Optional Practice on Monday, February 15th 3:00p-5:00; First official practice will take place Wednesday, Feb. 17th at 4:00p-5:30; regular practices will take place Monday-Friday at 4:00p-5:30 on the GT Field.
Varsity Boys Tennis (Head Coach, Scott Schofer) Boys High School Tennis Camp Area tennis camp for all HS and USTA tournament middle school players. Camp will focus on conditioning, drills, singles and doubles strategy. Most of the top players from each high school participate in the camp. It’s also a great start to the season by competing against different players. Monday, February 8-12; 4:00-5:45pm Location - Burlington Tennis Center Cost: $100 First official day of Varsity Tennis practice will be Monday, February 15 at 4:00pm. All regular practices will be Monday-Friday 4:00-6:00p at Alamance Country Club. Varsity Golf (Head Coach, Dave Blank) First official practice will be Monday, February 22 at 3:45-5:30pm at Alamance Country Club. Congratulations to our Middle School and Varsity Swim teams on a successful season. This year we had three athletes qualify to compete in the NCAISS State Championship Meet, which will be held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center on Monday, February 15th. Seventh grader Patrick Esposito, and sophomores Ben Esposito and Amelia Arcaro-Burbridge will represent The Burlington School at state the champs meet. Please be sure to wish them well! JV BASKETBALL WRAPS UP SOLID SEASON; V ARSITY BASKETBALL TEAMS BEGIN TAC TOURNEY
This weekend, JV Boys Basketball wrapped up the regular season, finishing with a strong 16-3 record. Varsity Boys Basketball will enter next week’s conference tournament with a 50 game winning streak, 30-0 on the year. Although our Varsity Girls have secured a first round bye in the TAC conference tournament, our varsity boys will play tonight at 7:30 PM – at home in Holt Gymnasium versus Burlington Christian Academy. Going into tonight’s game, junior John Meeks is 18 points shy of 1000 for his career. Support our Spartans as they aim for a second state Championship!
ALUMNI ATHLETES REPR ESENT IN COLLEGE
Brannin Webber ’15 is doing some stellar swimming at Rhodes College during this freshman year! His freshman relay team broke the school record in the 400 Medley Relay in recent competition. Brannin will be swimming in the SAA Conference meet this weekend in Birmingham, Alabama.
SENIORS HONORED IN TIMES-NEWS AWARDS The Times-News 18th Annual Awards for Excellence recognizes outstanding high school seniors for academic excellence and community service. TBS has eight seniors being recognized this year, one in each category of Foreign Language, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Language Arts, Science, Career-Technical, Mathematics and Social Science. The awards ceremony will be Wednesday, April 27th at the Paramount Theater and winners will be published in the Times-News on April 28th. We are very proud of our TBS seniors for their many accomplishments:

LOWER SCHOOL DANCE: FEBRUARY 12
The freshman class is hosting a dance for Spartans from Preschool 4 through 4th grade on February 12 from 6-8pm. The dance is Valentine’s Day themed: red, pink, and white clothing is strongly encouraged. Lower School students may bring guests from other schools, but all must fill out and return a permission form to be found at the front desk of the Greenwood Terrace campus. Light snacks will be provided. Submission of the form with payment costs $4 and admission payment at the door is $6. Forms will also be available at the door. You may also find the form on The Burlington School Parent Resources page, here. VALENTINE ’S DAY CANDYGRAMS FOR ORDER!
Valentine's Day is coming up: that means AYLA's annual fundraiser is about to start! Candygrams will be $1 and Carnations will be $2 (Carnations may not be available due to financial constraints. If you have any questions, please contact AYLA advisor Pablo Calvo at [email protected].) Additionally, this fundraiser is only for Lower and Middle School. In order to buy an item you must fill out order forms that will be
in the front office of the Greenwood Terrace campus. Today is the first day to order and the last day to order will be Wednesday, February 10th! Grams will be delivered on Friday the 12th. DRIVERS EDUCATION: M ARCH 7-21, GREENWOOD TERRAC E CAMPUS
Drivers Ed will be offered March 7-21 after school at the Greenwood Terrace campus. The classes will be three-hour sessions after school, including Fridays. DISNEY E-MERSION TERM TRIP ME ETING

AYLA PROMOTES COMMUNITY BUILDING
The Burlington School Chapter of the Alamance Youth Leadership Academy (AYLA) spent the day at Greensboro Day School last week, meeting students from other schools and talking about Spartan values and pledge traits. We're excited about the leadership opportunities available to our students, especially while working collaboratively with other dedicated peers!
WE’RE 100 DAYS IN! Our Lower School Spartans have been eagerly
celebrating their milestones this academic year! Last
week, Mrs. Richardson’s class counted 100 stickers and
made their own celebratory grids as well as contributed
100 cans of canned food to commemorate the occasion.
TBS SUMMER CAMP 2016!
It’s never too early to think about the summer! TBS Summer Camp sessions are going to be
innovative, exciting and fun this year – and our faculty will be instructing in various disciplines to make it an unforgettable season of learning. TBS Visual arts teacher Rodney Moser intends to teach an Advanced Art course this summer, which will include instruction in several mediums:
drawing, painting and possible sculpture depending on student’s prior artistic experiences. The Summer camp Publication and registration form will soon be available at
