Happy New Year and Welcome 2015!!

We had a great 2014 and Im looking forward to an even better year to come!

Our Annual December Dinner Meeting was wonderful. We had a new location, great food, holiday lights and good music. If you missed out please mark your calendars for our December meeting in 2015.

Our society had several new members join last year. So keep on the lookout for new friends and neighbors who are interested in growing the most beautiful flowers in the world and invite them to one of our meetings.

I announced the winner of the Annual Best Blue Ribbon Award in December. Tied with 2 Monthly Best Blue Ribbons were Simon Calle, Garfield Gilchrist & Carol Ott. Breaking the tie came down to counting how many total Blue Ribbons each person had won monthly throughout the year..and the winner was Garfield Gilchrist. Congratulations! So keep bringing your blooming orchids to the meetings because YOU may just be the next Annual Best Blue Ribbon Awardee. Officers Glass and Riley from the Boca Raton Police Department attended our dinner once again to collect the toys for deserving children in Boca. With a little encouragement Officer Glass entertained us with a song. Next year I think we should surprise him with a sing along.

Many thanks to the following members who make our meetings and Society a better experience thought the year:

Fred Gilbert, Shirley Wilde, Cheryl Dodes & Sagine Morgan, for representing BROS with our After School Orchid Program.

Marina Kruse, Don Salas, Carol OGrady & Susan Barbuty, for Hospitality at our Show and monthly meetings.

    Scott Joffe, our photographer.

Simon Calle & Pedro Diaz assisting Belinda Krause at the plant table.

Alan LaDuke and Fred Gilbert for working the monthly Raffle Table .

Jackie Wood, our AOS Representative and Judging Chairman.

Hyla Lavine, for assisting with our Dinner arrangements.

Maritza Graff, our Librarian and Corresponding Secretary.

And finally, a wonderful Board of Officers: Sheldon Guttman, Kim Hitt, Veronica Risko, Cheryl Dodes, Alan LaDuke, Sandy Haradon, Karen Khan, Maritza Graff, & Jay Collins. You all have helped keep our Society moving forward and I cannot thank you enough.

The Boca Raton Orchid Societys Valentines Day show is barely a month away and we NEED your help. Please come to this meeting prepared to sign up for bringing food; (Marina Kruse is Chair-man,) and to help set up and assist at the Show. Many volunteers make the work go faster & more fun. Dont forget to invite your friends & family to enjoy a special Valentines Weekend. Last year we had visitors attend from as far as South Africa. They were amazed at the orchids we can grow in our own back yards. This is also a great opportunity to talk to others, share information and make new friends. We need you for a few hours either Thurs, Fri, Sat or Sunday. Karen Khan and Sagine Morgan, Co-Chairmen, have all the information for you.

Our show proceeds are what keep your society running with Speakers each month, raffle plants, the After School Program & Sponsorship of the Orchid Short Course at the University of Florida.

    DECEMBER 4, 2014

The BROS Annual Dinner Meeting was held at the Via Mizner Clubhouse. Thanks to Jay

Collins, Lorraine Conover, and Hyla Levine for organizing a great dinner! BROS attendees

contributed many toys that will be given to underprivileged children. The Boca Raton

Police Department officers who accepted the donations even sang a Christmas carol to

us! Congratulations to Garfield Gilchrist for having the most blue ribbons at our monthly

orchid judging. He received a beautiful keepsake to honor his accomplishment. Please
