From the Pastor’s Corner 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time

But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold."

In the parable of the sower that Jesus tells in today's Gospel, the ideal is to be "the seed

sown on rich soil" that yields an abundant harvest. As Jesus explains, this means we

should strive to be "the one who hears the word and understands it."

So how do we place ourselves in this category? How do we assure that we will hear God's voice (i.e., the

word) and actually understand what he's saying to us? The answer comes in the parable itself. Jesus explains what

we need to avoid in order to make sure our seed bears fruit.

First, we must beware of "the evil one" who comes and steals away the seed of God's word. Faithfully

praying the Lord's Prayer, with its request to "deliver us from evil," is a good starting point here. Placing our-

selves under God's protection every day is like taking up a shield against the forces that would seek to derail us.

Secondly, we must be committed enough to God's word that "tribulation or persecution" do not uproot us

or make our faith wither and die. Here, too, sincerely praying the petition in the Lord's Prayer-"Thy will be

done"-can prepare us to accept whatever comes our way without waffling or wavering.

Finally, we must be careful that "worldly anxiety and the lure of riches" do not "choke" us. Again, we turn

to the Lord's Prayer and find an antidote built in: "Give us this day our daily bread." We pray not for a new car or

a winning lottery ticket, but for our basic needs.

So let us embrace the prayer Jesus gave us, indeed the words he himself gave us to say, as we seek to truly

hear and understand God's word.

Dear Parishioners,

On behalf of the entire parish, I would like to thank Diana Calio for her awesome

service over the past eight years to our Parish Community. Diana has been more than a

bookkeeper and secretary over these years. She has shown a spirit of

faith, dedication, and love in her service to our parish families and community.

She has set the groundwork for the incoming bookkeeper and secretary,

Lauren Kerzner, who will be starting on Monday, July 17th.

Please keep both of them in your prayers as they continue the

work of God in their lives.

God Bless you Diana for all that you do and all you are.

God Bless,

Fr. Pat

Have a wonderful and safe Summer!

Remember ...when traveling, God doesn’t

take a vacation and can be found in any

Catholic Church any place in the world!

Nolan Beahan, the first year seminarian, who has been with us for the past 10 weeks will conclude his stay on July 22nd. We wish him the best and he will be in our

prayers as he continues his studies. We thank him for serving at Masses, reflections for the week day readings, greeting us with a welcoming smile, visiting the ill, being part of the Heart of Jesus Retreat, participating in Teen Fusion activities...and once, even helping out our church gardeners when needed! We wish you the best as you move closer to priesthood in May 2020. You will be missed Nolan!

God works in many different ways. Most of the time, God works through ordinary people and events - a parent, a spouse, a friend, a beautiful sunset, a song, or an inspiring story. Other times, we hear

God’s call during major life changes - an engagement, marriage, a birth, or in crisis moments - a sickness, a death. Sometimes, we just have a feeling that something is missing. In the Rite of Christian Initiation we help people learn how to respond to God’s call not just for the moment but also for each day of their lives. If you’re thinking God might be calling you or someone you know to become Catholic, or if you have questions or would like more information about RCIA, please leave a message for Maggie Burud @

Jesus sat in a boat and spoke to the large crowd on shore. He told

them a parable about a sower sowing seeds. (planting) He

compared the seeds to God’s word and that if the seeds were

planted in rich soil they would grow and flourish. If we follow

God’s word, we will grow and flourish as children of God.

A Prayer to Our Lady of Mount Carmel

O most beautiful Flower of Mount Carmel, fruitful vine,

splendor of Heaven, Blessed Mother of

the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin,

assist me in this my necessity.

O Star of the Sea, help me and show me

herein that you are my Mother.

O Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of

Heaven and earth, I humbly beseech you

from the bottom of my heart, to succor

me in this my necessity. There are none

that can withstand your power.

O show me herein that you are my

Mother.

O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for

us that have recourse to thee.

Sweet Mother, I place this cause in your hands.
