Site News
On site this month we have approximately 600 employees of varying trades. Progress on the overall site
continues with power now connected to site which allow for internal M & E testing and commissioning.
The buildings progress continues:
The Entry Building and Energy Centre – security grills are being installed externally and internal fir
out is progressing well.
House Blocks – The House Blocks are progressing with the roof now being installed in House Block B and House Block C should has the core and pre-cast concrete panels installation com-menced on the wings
Education Centre – Windows have all been installed and internal decoration and joinery has com-
menced
External landscaping works have started to the car park perimeter area on Bridge Road. This is
being carried out by local company Wrights Landscaping
Community Engagement update
Construction Skills Programme
A second Construction Work Experience Programme
sponsored by North Wales Economic Ambition
Board ( NWEAB) , Jobcentre Plus and Lendlease
started on 3rd May at the Learning & Ambition Acad-
emy at the HMP Berwyn site
The participants took place in a range of trade days
including a taster day with Mckenna Flooring and
McCrory Brickwork. They also had interviews with a
range of employers and all completers passed their
CSCS Test and Dumper Truck Licence course.
This programme was a pilot programme with the
NWEAB and another programme will be delivered later in the year.
Groundwork Visit – Friday 6th May 2016
12 people from Groundworks North Wales visited
the site to learn about the Health & Safety aspects
of the site induction and to have a tour of the site.
All attendees enjoyed the visit and were surprised
by the size and scale of the project.
Governor Designate hosts Community Events across North Wales
Last month, Russ Trent, the future Governor of HMP Berwyn, and members of his management team
held the first of a series of Community Events in North Wales. This event in Wrexham was well attend-
ed and had a broad level of representation from various organisations and groups across the County
Borough.
The Governor talked about the timings for the project and his rehabilitative vision for the prison.
Following the presentation, there was an informative Question and Answer session.
A second event took place in Denbighshire with one planned for 1st June in Flintshire. Future dates
are being scheduled for Conwy, Anglesey & Gwynedd.

Constructing Excellence Wales – People Development & Leadership Award
The North Wales Prison Project has been shortlisted for the People Development & Leadership
Award with Constructing Excellence Wales. The project will know if it is successful at the awards cer-
emony in July 2016.
HMP Berwyn Health and wellbeing services recruitment
HMP Berwyn Health and Wellbeing services will shortly be actively recruiting high quality health, re-
covery and wellbeing professionals with the commitment and compassion to make a real difference.

Full time and part time hours are available and clinical staff will be expected to work across 7 days and to participate in shift work which will include early shifts, late shifts and night shifts. All jobs will be advertised through NHS Jobs and we will be holding a series of interview and selection days which candidates will be invited to attend following application and short listing on NHS Jobs. There will be an opportunity for people to gain further information on what it is like to work within a prison environment at these events, those who would then like to proceed with their application, will attend an interview and if successful, begin the clearance process.
