    Dear Families,

What a wonderful community we have at Patriot Oaks and this weekend’s Spring Carnival is

an excellent example of the community and staff coming together to support the school. Your

PTO has once again gone above and beyond to support the school with an amazing event.

Bring your entire family for fun and games… and a chance to WIN one of the beautiful baskets

that have been created with donated items. We certainly appreciate the volunteers who have

worked so hard to bring you a spectacular Spring Carnival!

Thank you to all of the teams and volunteers for working together to assist in successful

testing. Almost everyday we have at least one grade level testing. To accomplish this

requires flexibility among our students, staff and visitors. We are grateful for your flexibility to

    create a positive testing environment.

This past week I relayed a message to our families that referenced a student Snapchat story.

This “story” was circulated among middle school students and was subsequently investigated.

I think it is very important for all families to know that safety is paramount at our school. When

our school receives information we investigate. Some investigations are very detailed and

take time to complete. When necessary, we work with law enforcement to ensure that proper

measures are taken for student and staff safety. When students are disciplined, it is also

Important for families to know that we do not share student names nor their specific

punishments. We operate within the St. Johns County Schools Code of Conduct and we often

receive district support to make sure that the consequences a student receives are

appropriate. Parents can assist the school by speaking to their children about using social

media responsibly, by reporting suspicious activity which could impact the school to the school

and to law enforcement if not during school hours and by counseling their children on keeping

details factual. We are continuing to work with our students, staff and community about this

event which includes listening to the information they have, addressing rumors and calming

fears. We will continue speaking with our students next week by visiting our middle school

classrooms and discussing social media, the importance of reporting and student safety.

Next week our two Tropicana Speech contest winners will be competing in the district

competition. May 1st we kick off a staff appreciation week to celebrate our amazing staff. The

week ends with spring photos being held on May 5th. On May 10th we host a kindergarten

Open House, May 11th our middle school band and chorus have their spring concert and on

May 12th is our 8th grade dance.

The year is quickly coming to an end and we have many celebrations, field trips and learning

activities packed into the remaining weeks.

Thank you for your continued support!
