Future Business Leaders of America

FBLAFBLA, otherwise known as Future Business Leaders of America, is a student organization that was started during the 2016-17 school year. This club includes students who are interested in pursuing a career in business and want to compete in various competitive events at leadership conferences held across the state. From team bonding events, to speakers from all across the business spectrum, to the leadership conferences, and community service there are a lot of fun things planned for this coming school year. We encourage any student to join us and we meet regularly during A+.

Recently, some members from the leadership team went on a full day retreat to Governor Dodge State Park for a day of fun and a good way to get to know one another and become a more cohesive group. Be sure to look for our concession stand at Camp Randall during Badger football games in section GG! This fundraiser is what gives us the opportunity to attend the leadership conferences and fund all of the fun things we do throughout the year.

We look forward to a very fun and productive year!

The Verona Area Education Foundation (VAEF) is seeking a high school

student volunteer to serve on the Verona Area Education Foundation

Board. We approximate about 24 hours of time spent throughout the

school year that would count as volunteer hours for students desiring to

obtain their silver cord for graduation, but would also be a great resume

builder if college entrance is on their radar!

The Education Foundation Board meets once per month at 7:30am-

9:15am (student would receive excused absence from class) and desires

to have a student represent the high school student body on decisions

made to help with foundation fundraising which ultimately funds the

annual teacher grant program.

For more information on the Education Foundation, visit

verona.k12.wi.us/VAEF

If a student is interested, they should contact

[email protected]

The Verona Area Education Foundation, Inc. is a separate entity from the Verona Area

School District and exists to offer grants, supported by fundraising efforts, and engage in

projects and programs for the benefit of the Verona Area School District, its staff and

students. Nearly 275 grants totaling more than $100,000 have been given since the

Foundation’s inception in 1992.

Grants support projects NOT part of the school budget, such as

•Teacher innovation with classroom curriculums

•School program enhancements

From the Administration

Following a review of safety procedures with the administration team, Verona Area High School can confirm that patrons and students will not be permitted to take large bags, backpacks, and draw string bags into the football stadium during home games.

Smaller bags, like purses, will be permitted but may be subject to searches and patrons are urged not to bring bags at all whenever possible.

We would like to thank our patrons in advance for their cooperation with this matter as we look forward to a fantastic season of football over the coming months.

Go Wildcats!!!

Important Yearbook Information for The Class of 2018

To all Verona Area High School 2017-2018 Seniors and their Parents/Guardians:

This is to inform you that senior portraits will be in color in our yearbook. Because of the deadline for color pages in the yearbook, it is important that we receive your portraits by Friday, September 8, 2017.

We are asking all seniors to submit one vertical wallet size color photo (like the sample shown on the right), through the Jostens direct upload link, email address below, or CD, by Friday, September 8, 2017. If you are submitting the photo electronically (upload or email) please make certain the photo resolution quality is at least 300 DPI or higher.

Please note, we will not be returning this photo to you. If you submit your photo electronically, please name the photo last name, first name. If you submit your photo in hard copy format, please neatly write last name, first name on the photo. This is very important for organizational purposes.

Members of the senior class feel that it is very important to include all seniors. Although studio pictures are the most common, we encourage you to summit a photo even it was taken by a family friend or another student.

We use these photos in the Verona Press, on the “Big Screen” at graduation at EPIC, and possibly in the senior video, therefore all photos must be waist up for consistency. In addition, all photos must be school appropriate. All photos are subject to approval by the VAHS administration. If you do not submit a photo, we will use the school Lifetouch photo that is taken at school. You will not have to submit your Lifetouch photo, we will have access to it. If you choose not to submit a photo, and you do not get your Lifetouch photo taken, you will not be pictured in any of these events/occasions.

Many photographers offer to send your photo directly to Verona Area High School. However, we recommend that you check with your photographer to make certain they plan to send it by Friday, September 8, 2017. Also keep in mind that studios fill up quickly in the summer, so make your appointment early. A final reminder. Photos need to be vertical, not horizontal (like sample shown).

If you have any questions about this, please call Amy Moschkau at 845-4442.

How do you (or your Studio) submit your photos?1. Upload your photo directly to the Jostens link:

http://www.images.jostens.com VAHS User Id: 408483591

2. Email photos to: [email protected]

3. Either bring in a digital or paper copy to the High School Main Office. Digital are preferred!

Please note, the Jostens link will not be available until July 1, 2017 and the VAHS Yearbook email will be checked in late August/early September. We will not be able to email you individually to let you know we received your photo until mid-August. Also note, this email will be checked by student members of the yearbook class so please do not share personal information or questions.

ONLINE ATHLETIC REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!  How to Register Online for VAHS Athletics: There are a couple of ways to get to our Athletic website, you can: Go to http://vahsathletics.com/ OR go the the Verona Area School District Website/High School/Athletics/Online Athletic Registration When you get to our website:

● On the right side above "Latest Photo Galleries" is the link that says "Register For Sports". Just follow the links!

● If you need the website in Spanish? Just click on the TRANSLATE WEBSITE button. ● If you registered last year for a sport you use your same login info.

If new you will need to create an account. Make sure you sign up for the CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR ATHLETIC CHOICES (not last years) - you may need to scroll down to the correct year.

● EACH YEAR you will need to read and electronically sign both the Code of Conduct and Concussion information and download the emergency information sheet to fill in and give to your coach NOT the Athletic Office.

● Physical/Alternate year forms are available - even if you do not need to download a form you will need to click on the link before you can proceed.

● Feel free to click on all sports your child will participate in this year so that you will not need to go back in and do so later.

Commonly asked ?’s ??: Where do the physical/alternate year cards go? - to your coach or directly to Ms. Witte-Davis’ office across from the vending machines at the entrance to the HS commons. ??: Where does my emergency info sheet go? - to your coach ??: Do I pay my athletic fees on vahsathletics.com - NO, they are paid using your efunds account or by check made out to VAHS, please do not include other fees on this check. ??: Are the athletic fees the same as the Booster Club fees - NO, they are two separate things. ??: Does my child need a physical or an alternate year form this year?

Here are the guidelines per WIAA rules: Physical: If physical card is signed by a doctor showing it took place April 1, 2016 or after AND is on file in our office you will not need a physical for the 2017-18 school year, only an Alternate Year card is needed. Alternate Year: If alternate year card was signed May 1, 2017 or after it is good for the 2017-18 school year.

Good Luck Wildcats!

NO. Debe usar su cuenta de efunds para pagar en línea o pagar por cheque a nombre de VAHS. Por favor no agregue otras cuotas escolares al mismo cheque.

● ¿Es la cuota para deportes la misma cosa que la cuota para el Booster Club? NO.

¡Buena suerte Wildcats!

Magic To Do!

VAHS Theater

Pippin is coming to Verona Area High School on October 12-15, 2017, in the VAHS Performing Arts Center.

The performances on October 12-14 will take place at 7:30pm with a matinee at 2pm on Sunday, October 15.

Pippin, written by Stephen Schwartz, premiered on Broadway in 1972, has won several Tony awards, and has

been performed around the world. Schwartz also composed the popular musicals Godspell (1971) and Wicked

(2003).

This musical is performed by a mysterious Band of Players, led by the Leading Player, to act out the story of

Pippin, a young prince on his search for purpose. Pippin and his father King Charlemagne are characters based

on historical figures of the early Middle Ages, although the plot is hilariously skewed from their real lives. En-

joy Pippin’s misadventures as he navigates his journey towards meaning in this comedy filled with surprises

and life lessons.

VAHS students in the production include: Derek Argall as Pippin, Kate Veak as Leading Player, Asiah Doyle

as Charlemagne, Daphne Buan as Catharine, Maddie Vilker as Fastrada, Elyse Mancilla as Berthe, Caulden

Parkel as Lewis, and Zaria Roller as Thea. Many more dedicated students make up the Band of Players, the

crew, and pit orchestra who all work to bring the story to life.

The production is directed by Steve Nibbe, with Heather Thorpe as vocal director and Eric Anderson as orches-

tra director. Choreography is done by Verona Theater Alum Sara Bartlett. VAHS seniors Raina Voss and Mag-

gie Kempfer will be stage managers for this show.

Pippin is full of hilarious as well as meaningful moments with many twists and turns that you won’t want to

miss!

Reserve tickets for any performance are available through the box office. To reserve your seats, simply call

Students from any school district at any grade level may participate

The Verona Area High School ACT Prep Program offers students an ACT Prep Course to assist students in preparing for the ACT Exam. The Prep Course focuses on the four subject areas covered by the ACT Test: English, Math, Reading, & Science. The course also addresses the optional essay portion of the exam that many students choose to take. Each day of the 4-day course is devoted to one of the four subject areas (with Reading and Essay covered on the same night). During each class students will be given subject-specific test taking tips, review commonly covered content, and work through a variety of practice problems in an effort to prepare students to take the ACT Test.
