The Peninsula Post August 2011 From The President’s Desk We resume our connect with you to bring to you the happenings at Rotary Club of Bombay Peninsula. August is designated by Rotary International as “Membership Extension Month”. Rotary clubs provide excellent opportunity for fellowship, networking, friendship with a difference. We resume our connect with you to bring to you the happenings at Rotary Club of Bombay Peninsula. August is designated by Rotary International as “Membership Extension Month”. “Chanakya’s Leadership Strategies”: 04-Aug-11

Shri Viraj Padhariya presented various Chanakya’s Leadership strategies and their relevance in today’s business organizations. He highlighted and appreciated the multifarious management qualities of Indian ladies amidst their chores.

Club Assembly: 11-Aug-11

Our club had the first club assembly wherein various activities being undertaken by the club were discussed. Directors Chairs of various Avenues of Service presented on the projects initiated and being implemented by them. The assembly saw active participation by several members.

Independence Day Celebration: 12-Aug-11

Our club has a long time association with SPJ Sadhana School at Sophia College campus, Breach Candy. This school is among the best in Asia for children suffering from cerebral palsy.

It has various activities and departments including a full fledged kitchen to teach “catering”. The children celebrated “Independence Day” by presenting a skit depicting characters of various leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sarojini Naidu, Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdeo, Rajguru, Rani Laxmibai, etc.

Jasmine Pandya, Swati Sheth & Indra Sethi are volunteering at this institution since several years. PE Anil Jain joined Prez Jay & Asha Toshniwal in the program

Krishna Nite: 18-Aug-11:

Our members celebrated “Janmashtami” by presenting “Krishna Nite”

All in all 45 members & Anns participated in the show. The program was attended by over 125 members, Anns, children & guests.

Teams presented “Birth of Krishna”, “Childhood of Krishna”, “Youth of Krishna” and “Experiences of Krishna” by way of skit, dance, drama and bhajans.

Rotary Ambassadorial Scholars: 25-Aug-11:

Our club hosted Rotary Ambassadorial Scholars Ms Sasha Anderson and Ms Hilary Collins from USA. They are studying at Tata Institute of Social Sciences. They presented on their subjects of study, talked about their clubs, culture, country, learnings in India. They were shown around South Mumbai after the meeting.

“Bhakti Bhavna + Aarti” Sandhya: 25-Aug-11 to 01-Sep-11:

Our member PP Jatin Desai invited all members to daily evenings of “Bhakti Bhavna” bhajans followed by Aarti during the most important Jain festival of “Paryushan” at the Derasar, Tirupati Apartments, Peddar Road, Mumbai.

Paryushan marks the purification of the mind, body & soul and emphasizes on fasting and forgiveness.

District News:

• 05-07 Aug-11: Inter-District RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) was held at Goa. Miss Medha Dalal , daughter of PP Sanjay & Ruchira Dalal, has been active RYLA participants since few years. She co-ordinated in the event.

• 20-21 Aug-11: The “District Picnic” was organized at “The Retreat”,

Madh Island, Malad. • 27-Aug-11: Our club co-hosted the “District Iftar Party” at Hotel

Diplomat, Colaba. Rotary Club of Mumbai Downtown was the lead host club along with other co-host Rotary clubs. Prez Jay Toshniwal attended the party.

International Service:

• 25-Aug-11: Our club hosted Rotary Ambassadorial Scholars Ms Sasha Anderson and Ms Hilary Collins from USA. They are studying at Tata Institute of Social Sciences. They were shown around South Mumbai after the meeting.

• Rtn Ashok Kelkar visited Rotary Club of Wolsey, Ipwich, UK. He talked to the Rotarians in that club highlighting our club projects. He also discussed possibilities of partnering with that club for Global Grant projects.

• Rtn Anup Taparia and Family visited East Europe. He spoke the President of Rotary Club of Prague in Czech Republic. The Club meets on Friday and since it was already Monday, the meeting could not be attended.

• 08-Sep: Our club lead hosts alongwith 7 other clubs a joint meeting on ”DAUD” (District At Ur Doorstep). Arrow Sinha Roy speaks on “Global Grants” and Dilip Vora on “FCRA Regisration”

• 15-Sep: Uttam Maheshwari speaks on “Miracles of Cow Therapy”

• 22-Sep: “FM bole to Radio City 91.1” RJ Archana speaks on “RJ – an interesting vocation”

• 25-Sep: Our club holds a Cataract Eye Camp at Simlanagar slum

• 29-Sep: Debate “Aaj ka Upvas – No TV-Mobile-Internet” between RC Bombay Queen City V/s RC Bombay Peninsula. Dist Secy Ramon Abrol moderates the debate
