T H E G E O R G E I V A P A R T M E N T S You can’t swing a broomstick in Edinburgh without uncovering some amazing historical stories. With over 4500 listed buildings, as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the city is brimming with fascinating facts from a bygone age. Our beautiful Victorian building is no exception, with a careful restoration in 2015 returning it to its former glory.

Our eight apartments all command views of either Edinburgh Castle or the George IV Bridge. Directly beneath your bedrooms, the infamous Elephant House Café is where a little known author by the name of J.K. Rowling wrote much of her content for what would become the Harry Potter series of books.

A few steps in either direction and you will be standing on the Royal Mile or ready to rub the nose of Greyfriar’s Bobby.

We do hope you will enjoy exploring everything our city has to offer, and would love if you would share your social media stories with us using the hashtag #No1Moments

W E L C O M E H O M E …

We know you’ll want to get settled in quickly, so you’ll find everything in this welcome pack you need to hit the ground running.

As well as gadget info and quick “how to” guides, like any good host we have given you lots of top tips on our favourite places around the city for a coffee, a wander, or even a good old fashioned jig. Whether you are a seasoned visitor (welcome back friend!) or this is your very first time in this incredible city, we are delighted you have chosen us as the base for your stay.

Having your own apartment gives you the space, flexibility and freedom of movement that you just don't

get at a hotel. If however, you find that you would like to get in touch with someone for any questions or comments, just say the word. For a little on the ground support, we’ve got great neighbours, and our friends at the Grassmarket Hotel will be delighted to chat it out over a coffee. Call 0131 220 2299 and ask reception to call you back.

We are sure that you will find that the beds are super comfortable, the views are great, and your apartment couldn’t be any more central unless we set up shop in the castle itself. So kick back, relax, and enjoy your stay.

The No. 1 Team

F I L L

YOU’RE A WIZARD HARRY!

The perfect day for Potter fans, release your inner wizard with our magical highlights of the city!

T H E E L E P H A N T H O U S EStart off your day with a freshly brewed coffee in the Elephant House that can be found just downstairs. This hideaway was a home away from home for JK Rowling as she wrote the Harry Potter series. This gives the café its unofficial title of ‘The Birthplace of Harry Potter’.

B A L M O R A L H O T E LThis five star hotel played host to the famous author as she completed ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’. It is here that she famously signed a bust of the god Hermes in The Balmoral Hotel's room 552. That room is now known as the ‘JK Rowling Suite' and is now one of the most expensive rooms in the hotel.

J K R O W L I N G ’ S G O L D E N H A N D P R I N T SAs a reward for her contribution to the city, JK Rowling was awarded the Edinburgh award in 2008. To mark the occasion her handprints were reproduced onto flagstone in front of the City Chambers, this was soon after she finished the final book of the famous series.

V I C T O R I A S T R E E TAs one of Edinburgh’s architectural treasures, Victoria Street is loved by both tourists and locals of the city. The cobbled street is said to be where Rowling drew inspiration for the famous wizarding shopping destination — Diagon Alley. The street includes a joke shop the Weasley brothers would be proud of as well as a store dedicated to the Harry Potter movies.

A R T H U R ’ S S E A TEnjoy the great outdoors of the capital with a trip to Arthur’s Seat. The tallest of the Seven Hills on which Edinburgh was founded, the hill is popular with visitors due to the relatively easy walk to the top. Experience breath-taking views of the city whilst filling your lungs with that famous Scottish air!

C A L T O N H I L LOne of Edinburgh’s most recognisable landmarks, Calton Hill offers the very best views of the city. Walk amongst the various monuments and learn more about the history of the unfinished acropolis. Pack a picnic and head on up, we promise you won’t be disappointed.

G E T S O M E F R E S H A I RLace up your walking boots, take in the views and enjoy an unforgettable day in Edinburgh… HERIOT ROW HERIOT ROW

Visit all of Edinburgh’s top attractions on our one day whistle stop tour…

R O Y A L M I L EEdinburgh’s most famous street runs from the castle gates to the palace and is almost exactly a mile long. Running downhill, the Royal Mile is the busiest tourist street in the old town with plenty of wee nooks and crannies to explore.

N A T I O N A L M U S E U M O F S C O T L A N DThe National Museum of Scotland is one of the top visitor attractions in the country, and in the top 20 visited museums in the world. Following an extensive redevelopment, the museum encompasses a diverse collection of Scottish history, nature, art design and fashion. Admission is free!

E D I N B U R G H C A S T L EWho can really say they’ve visited Edinburgh without heading to this historic fortress? The volcanic Castle Rock that it sits upon is estimated to have formed some 350 million years ago. The impressive building has played host to many a royal resident, as well as being a prison and an army garrison. A must see for all!

G H I L L I E D H UIt doesn’t get more Scottish than Ghillie Dhu, an impressive venue housed within a former Church in the West End of the city. Their Burly Ceilidh Club happens every Friday & Saturday from 7pm, where you can enjoy three courses and a live ceilidh band for £35 per person. We recommend you bring your dancing shoes! For reservations call 0131 222 9930.
