@PointEastleigh

Welcome to our Summer 2013 season at The Point. We are delighted to offer audiences a wide range of events in varied locations; so we will be keeping our fingers crossed for the best of British summertime as our Youth Theatre present their summer show The Wind in the Willows in the beautiful grounds of Hursley Park - a unique promenade performance not to be missed!

The best of creative talent will also take over Eastleigh Town Centre on the 8th June in Eastleigh Unwrapped, including the magnificent Scarabeus Aerial Theatre with the premiere of their new children’s theatre show. Also expect music, storytelling, buskers in unusual places, street theatre and audio tours to name a few. Best of all? It’s all free!

Another fantastic line-up of musicians return to Eastleigh this summer, as we offer the finest in Folk music and of course the chance to join in with Threepenny Bit as they return with their lively Ceilidh and foot tapping routines.

Our Interreg funded ENLIVEN Fashion Project is bigger and better this year with catwalk shows and a busy and eclectic art and design market featuring textiles, clothing, jewellery and more - an opportunity to simply browse or purchase a unique gift from local designers. Also look out for our other Interreg project DanSCe Dialogues 2 which this season sees our Associate Artist, Charlotte Spencer, perform Walking Stories in the beautiful woodlands of Spinney Hollow.

It’s impossible to mention all the wonderful events here, so enjoy browsing through the brochure and we hope to be welcoming you at one of the many events this summer. Finally, I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new Artistic Director Owen Calvert-Lyons who joined us this summer - we look forward to seeing his programme in forthcoming seasons.

Happy summertime!

Currently Oysterband consists of John Jones (voice, melodeon), Alan Prosser (guitars, voice), Al Scott (bass guitar, mandolin, voice), Dil Davies (drums) and Ian Telfer (violin, keyboard, voice).

Sean Hughes: Life Becomes Noises Friday 5th July 8pm

From the moment the lights come up on Life Becomes Noises, it becomes apparent that this is going to be no ordinary comedy show.

“Knowing exactly when to puncture any incipient melancholy or earnestness with an expertly crafted gag” (****The Telegraph), Sean makes his triumphant return to the stage redefining his craft with a narrative that makes audiences laugh or cry in the blink of an eye. Sean has been dealing with his father’s death in a way that only Sean can.

Here is a comedy performance from Sean like you’ve never seen before. This hilarious yet poignant tale is a beautiful insight into the lighter side of dying and getting older, going to places that comedy rarely goes and highlighting how ridiculous life is and how quickly it can be taken away.

It’s an exciting time for Eastleigh; with a rapidly developing centre for the creative industries, it is fast becoming an important cultural hub in the region offering creative and

economic growth to the Town Centre and the Borough as a whole.

New creative workspaces have helped reinvigorate the town’s economy and a supportive creative hub allows for those working

in the industry to realise their potential in developing a viable business. Alongside this the creative hub offers

important networking opportunities.

The creative workspaces are rapidly expanding; already we have the West Wing Studios, based here at The Point and Wessex House situated in the town centre, both offering affordable and supportive workspace for those working in the creative industries. This year Eastleigh launches its Sorting Office (see

below) adding to its growing portfolio of creative opportunities.

Sorting Office built in the 1920s, this unique space offers open plan units, lockable private units and a production studio for large scale projects.

The Sorting Office will be officially opened and launched on 10th May by Wayne Hemingway MBE.

The Sorting Office is a partnership between Eastleigh Borough Council and the arts charity ‘aspace’.

The Sorting Office is the latest addition to the growing portfolio of creative hubs in Eastleigh and is part of an exciting

European-funded enterprise programme called RECREATE.

The new space offers affordable workspace to artists and creative industries within a supportive environment to help residents to develop their practices and grow their creative businesses.
