Developing kick-ass learning is not for the faint of heart. Giving a Generation X learner a talking head with a “next”

button is a recipe for destruction. They’ll tune out and start reading mail (or IM-ing their friends, or playing Doom, or

listening to tunes on their i-Pod).

You’ve got to move up to the next level of interactive customer-driven learning using techniques like blogs,

podcasting, networked communities, wikis, viral videos and other cutting edge tools where the inmates build the asylum.

Podcasts, Wikis, Blogs – Oh My!

A podcast is a collection of digital media files which is distributed over the Internet, often using syndication feeds, for playback on portable media players and personal computers.

A wiki is software that allows users to easily create, edit, and link pages together. Wikis are often used to create collaborative websites and to power community websites.

A blog (short for “web log”) is a website where entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Compare potential business impact of choices

Page 18: The Power Of Babble 011309

Success metrics must be mapped to business goals

Page 19: The Power Of Babble 011309

Set measurable goals

So what happens when you

let the inmates run the

asylum?

Slick isn't necessarily better

limit the scope

You point the discussion and add value

Page 32: The Power Of Babble 011309

User-built

content isn't free,

just a different model

Page 33: The Power Of Babble 011309

You can use

moderation, if it's in

moderation

Page 34: The Power Of Babble 011309

Copy other pioneers, don't rebuild the wheel

Page 35: The Power Of Babble 011309

Reward and

support bell-cows as they

drive the content

Page 36: The Power Of Babble 011309

You already have resources in your community

Page 37: The Power Of Babble 011309

Collect and re-publish, index, chunk the best

Page 38: The Power Of Babble 011309

Rich content

resources will add value

Page 39: The Power Of Babble 011309

A public/private model usually won't increase benefits

Page 40: The Power Of Babble 011309

First provide the value, then build the audience

Page 41: The Power Of Babble 011309

Focus on their pain to

build community

Page 42: The Power Of Babble 011309

Guide, don't push

growth and

direction

Page 43: The Power Of Babble 011309

Fresh content smells better

Page 44: The Power Of Babble 011309

Content is never done -- you just keep planting and pruning

Page 45: The Power Of Babble 011309

Focus the

story, don't gate-keep

Page 46: The Power Of Babble 011309

Thank goodness,

we’re almost done

Page 47: The Power Of Babble 011309

The traditional model of content management is dead

Page 48: The Power Of Babble 011309
