Induction wasnt on the agenda Sowhat did Edinburgh do? Biggest challenges Almost a blank page when we started Misconceptions of what we do 3.5 staff: 12,000+ new students in September Silos Changing perceptions: Longitudinal induction & continual transitions Putting students at the centre Project fatigue The fact that we are a 3 year project We dont have a network of similar colleagues (no NODA!) Enablers: Champions at various levels and roles Earlier projects which highlighted a need Early wins bought us favour Funding Introduced the Induction Team! Scoping current practice Build a network of key colleagues Determine baseline student experience Determine Induction Team Strategy Raising the profile of induction Our Approach: Phase 1 Phase 1 Achievements Phase 2: Scoping continued Engagement with staff Induction Team took ownership of key activities Engaging with Schools Phase 2 Achievements Gearing Up for Induction Staff Event Student Led pilot event with the School of Divinity Phase 3: Enhancements Creation of an Induction Framework Focus on measuring impact Phase 3 Achievements Collaboration has been key! Impact Staff Feedback Student Feedback More than 2/3 of the UG and PG respondents say that they feel they belong to the 'University of Edinburgh' after their Induction Week. Only 1 in 3 UG and PG students said that they felt 'Confident I can cope with the academic demand of my course'. Best thing about starting uni?: Meeting new people, making new friends, pursuing interests and being challenged by academics.
