TRANSCRIPT
Dear EWI Milwaukee, Thanks to all Members for your participation last month at our Business Meeting. We are all volunteering our time and to take full advantage of what EWI has to offer, you need to get involved— especially with Board service. Speaking from personal experience, you can get to know your fellow Members so much better while gaining confidence in your abilities.
I am very excited for EWI to be the guests of FedEx on April 2nd! A big thank you to Stephanie La Marque for all of her hard work in
making this happen. Please make sure to arrive at the Country Inn & Suites close to 5:00pm to make the 5:20pm shuttle departure.
In the month of April we are celebrating EWI’s 75th Anniversary! In honor of this, we would like to send a photo of our group to EWI Corporate. Your EWI of Milwaukee Board would love it if you wore EWI colors: navy, turquoise, lime green and white. To check them out, see them on our website: ewimilwaukee.org.
Cindy Kunze, our new Director of Retention and Recruitment, is rarin’ to go! I can’t thank Cindy enough for stepping forward to help EWI Milwaukee expand and spread the fantastic opportunity that our group has to offer. Let’s all join together and help her by inviting your connections to a meeting. Let’s show the metro Milwaukee area how fantastic EWI is!
At our last Board meeting, we had a very in-depth discussion about our current scholarship fundraiser, the EWI Golf Outing. The concern is that it is a very labor-intensive event with only about half of EWI of Milwaukee membership attending. It was brought up at the meeting that we consider a fundraiser where we could have all of our membership participate and be able to raise more funds for our scholarships at the same time. Please stay tuned for an email later this week with more information.
Lastly, we are considering applying to host LCAM in 2015 and would love your input! Cortney Ewald-Ihde has brought this to the Past President’s Council and they wholeheartedly supported it and have offered their help in organizing. How exciting would it be to host in our beautiful city? Cortney has contacted Visit Milwaukee and they are more than willing to help. Thank you Cortney for your hard work!
Thank you all for being members of EWI of Milwaukee! Stay warm and see you all on April 2nd.

March Meeting Re-Cap Courtesy of Jess Beyer
The ladies of EWI gathered at Firefly in Wauwatosa for their March Business
Meeting. We received a beautiful vocation from Ginny Czarnecki, Mueller
Communications followed by committee reports.
According to Jess Beyer, Treasurer (The Schroeder Group, S.C., Attorneys at
Law), membership renewals have been processed, but the Chapter’s membership
renewals have declined.
Emily Phillips, Ways and Means (New Consulting Resources) reported that the
pasta fundraiser is still moving along and encouraged members to continue
soliciting through the end of March.
After the Business Meeting concluded, Donna Munnik, VP (Mary Kay Cosmetics)
provided information regarding her meeting with Mary Caye Smith, President
(SalesSmith) and the Executive Committee. That meeting brought to light some
thoughts for the board to consider with regards to long term goals. After the
announcements were completed, Committee Chairs utilized the remaining time
allotted for gathering with their respective Committees.
Lastly, a reminder was made regarding the firm night at FedEx from Stephanie La
Marque: Please wear closed toe, flat shoes and long pants at the April meeting
for the tour at FedEx in New Berlin.
Additionally, EWI will be celebrating 75 years during the month of April. Be sure
to wear your EWI colors to the April membership meeting for photo
opportunities!
See you on April 2nd
!!
I cannot state strongly enough how important and valuable I believe membership in EWI is and the value the organization adds to the business community. In working with people affiliated with EWI, I have had an opportunity to watch our members and I grow in terms of skills, confidence and professionalism. In addition, because of the EWI experience
members are better prepared to take on leadership roles with their respective businesses and organizations. The networking afforded by EWI members has also helped me get acquainted and interact with fellow business leaders in the community. Perhaps the greatest value is that many corporations cannot match the development and networking opportunities offered by EWI. These skill development functions are usually not available internally. That means that people either get these skills from EWI or they don’t get them at all. That’s why I’m such a strong supporter of EWI and its mission. What’s also important to note that the “E” in EWI stands for “Executive.” EWI is International organization of Executive Women from throughout the US and Canada, and the Milwaukee chapter reflects that through the diversity of its members. There’s no question that the needs of the workplace have been changing at a dramatic pace. And in order to continue to be of “value” to our employers, we all must keep pace with these changes. EWI has changed with the changing dynamics of the workplace by offering its members with the resources to do the job in the ever-changing work environment. The local chapter meetings and the various conferences, besides being great educational trips, afford members an opportunity to network with people from throughout the US and Canada and pick up best practices that can be brought back to the workplace. My message to you as EWI members is to stay active in EWI…take advantage of its programming and networking opportunities…and encourage your colleagues at other companies who are not members of EWI to sign up and become involved. It is my view, that membership in EWI has a great return on investment! Congratulations EWI on our 75th Anniversary!

What does EWI mean to me …
Eleanor Roosevelt said :
“I gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which I must stop and look challenge and fear in the face … I say to myself, I’ve lived through this and can take the next thing that comes along … We must do the things we think we cannot do.”
EWI has taught and prepared me for the challenges in the workplace through educational offerings, mentoring, and leadership. EWI is PRICELESS – every day in which I am a member firm representative.

Past President’s Council - UPDATE On Tuesday, March 12th, members of our chapter who have previously served as Chapter President met to discuss our chapter and how we are doing. This group of representatives is called the Past President’s Council and they serve as an advisory body that our chapter can turn to for guidance, ideas, advice and wisdom. The following member representatives were able to attend:
Mary Burns, Major League Baseball
Roxane Theisen-Kapp, Johnson Controls Cindy Kunze, Rexnord Industries
Sharon Fryjoff, We Energies Ellen Aumann, Life Member
Linda Sauntmon, Life Member Joan Perdue, Sustaining Member Margie Gehrman, Sustaining Member
The PPC meets when needed, usually at the direction of the Chapter Board. At the meeting, the Past Presidents discussed many ideas relative to engaging our membership, growing our chapter members with recruitment, how to be more involved as a sustaining member (they want to be involved!), our chapter’s fundraising initiatives for operating funds and scholarship funds, and the possibility to make an application for LCAM here in Milwaukee in 2015! We thank each and every one of our Past President’s for the continued commitment and passion for EWI of Milwaukee! Sharing & Caring is a chance for you to contribute to the comfort or congratulations of your fellow EWI of Milwaukee Chapter Members. Whether it is the birth of a baby or the passing of a loved one, the donations collected support EWI of Milwaukee’s efforts to recognize those we care about. Please look for the basket at the registration area or being passed hand to hand.
SHARING & CARING
EWI Milwaukee Members: the first step to getting all you possibly can out of EWI is to be INVOLVED! Our chairs have very graciously volunteered their time, but to make their burden lighter they need YOU! It will take the effort
of all EWI Milwaukee to make our Chapter thrive. What this gives you is
the ability to build lasting relation-ships with each other - the biggest take-away of them all! Please put
EWI into your schedule!
The scholarship dinner will be here before you know it. Mark the date, May 7, 2013 at the Crowne Plaza in Wauwatosa as in past years. We are still looking for donations and ask for your help in obtaining promotional items from your firm to include in our "goody bags" for the three EWISP scholarship recipients and the three ASIST scholarship recipients (6 total). Assorted items such as pens, pen sets, portfolios, key chains, T-shirts, post-its, etc. are appropriate. With fewer bags to fill then in the past, please consider supporting the event with a few higher end items if possible. Keep in mind that these items do not have to be identical. However, any contribution you are able to make is appreciated. Please bring them to any upcoming meeting or we are happy to make arrangements for pick up. Thank you from your EWISP and ASIST Committee chairs,

First, a big welcome and THANK YOU to Tammy May for joining our Committee!! I’ll be giving a short tour of the website at the April 2nd meeting. Be sure to catch it! If you’re on Facebook, please do join the Facebook Group for EWI of Milwaukee! It’s a great place to communicate as well as share documents and other notes just between the EWI Members—it is not a public group. There is also a group on LinkedIn if you are not aware. Want to join? If you’re a LinkedIn Member, just click here and request it! We also now have a LinkedIn “EWI of Milwaukee Company Page”! Exciting! It’s still somewhat of a work in progress, but you can click the link above or this link to see it! http://www.linkedin.com/company/ewi-of-milwaukee One last note (request) :) Please do try to get your submissions in for the Connect as soon as possible. We have to stick to the deadline because there is so much formatting involved. Also, it would be great and I would REALLY appreciate it if you would send in your submissions in as soon as you know of them rather than waiting until the actual deadline date. Thank you!!!!

Healthy Tip
Deep belly breathing increases lung capacity, increases oxygenation throughout the body,
strengthens your immune system, and helps relieve stress. Latest research even says, it could be the “fountain of youth” as it changes our bodies on a cellular level. Try counting to 8 as you breath in deeply, hold for a count of 8, and exhale for a count of 8 for 4-8 cycles to realize deep breathing benefits. For guided meditation try the free “Take A Break” App
