Why was Belgium's revolt successful, but almost all the other ones a FAILURE?• Belgians were INSPIRED by France's 1830 revolution and wanted to separate from the Netherlands!• Poland?  Territory given away in Congress of Vienna.  They rebelled in 1830, but Russian forces CRUSHED their rebellion!

1830 Revolutions...

1848:  REVOLUTION AGAIN in FRANCE!

• a recession hit, and people were frustrated with Louis Philippe (1789 again?)• February Days:  protests made Louis Philippe abdicate• June Days:  upper and middle class CRUSHED the working class!  • Tension between the upper/middle class (bourgeoisie) and the working class!• 1852: Napoleon III takes over and attempts to bring back his uncle's structure and glory days!

So why did these attempts to gain freedom FAIL by 1850?• use of military force by Kings!• revolutionaries didn't have widespread support• many liberties had been taken away
