St John Bosco Parish is a vibrant and worshipping community in the heart of Woodley. We are
committed to serve, to grow, to connect and to give.
The Roman Catholic Parish of
16th July 2017 - 15th Sunday of Ordinary Time - Issue 1181
to the Faithful of St. John Bosco Parish
My dear Parishioners,
I am writing first of all to express profound gratitude and appre-ciation for your parish priest, Fr. Bonaventure Ndong. Fr. Bon has served St. John Bosco’s devotedly these last years as a fine pastor, a true teacher of the Word of God, a faithful minis-ter of the sacraments and an inspiring leader of the flock. He now returns to Cameroon to take up a new appointment as his Bishop’s Secretary. We will miss him, but we congratulate him on this appointment, promising to remember him often in our prayers. Our Diocese of Portsmouth and the Archdiocese of Bamenda are linked by deep bonds of ecclesial communion, and we hope to see him again soon, during the official visita-tion to Bamenda early next year. Full of gratitude, we entreat the Lord to bless Fr. Bon abundantly.
I must now announce the happy news that from September, I am appointing three priests to St. John Bosco parish. Canon Michael Dennehy, Vicar General and Parish Priest of English Martyrs Reading, will be your parish priest. He will be assisted by two assistant priests and parochial administrators, resident here in Woodley: Fr. Luca Speziale and Fr. Raffaele Cozza. Fr. Luca and Fr. Raffaele belong to the movement “Communion and Liberation,” which some of you will know from the various groups we have here in our Diocese. They will build on the work of Fr. Bon and, at the same time, I hope and pray, bring even more life and energy into the mission of the Church in Woodley. They will develop the new evangeliza-tion in the parish and also through their chaplaincy work in the parish school and in Reading Hospital. I am sure that when they arrive, you will give them a very warm welcome. Please keep them, and Fr. Bon, in your prayers.
With my prayers and best wishes for you all,
In Corde Iesu, +Philip

GOOD NEWS!

regular prayer meetings from
Monday, 4th September 2017 at
8pm in the Newman Centre All
are welcome new, present and
past members.
Our mission is to pray for our
parish, all parishioners
especially the sick and at the
same time enhance our own
prayer life and deepen our
understanding of Holy Scripture.
Thank you to Marian Edwards
for leading this group .
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR OUR CHURCH CLEANING CLUB
Do you have a spare hour or so on a Friday or Saturday morning? If so please come along and join in the cleaning of our church . On both days
tea/coffee and biscuits are available.
THANK YOU To James Lewis for joining us in the parish for the last 3 weeks. It has been a pleasure having you in our community and we thank you for your contribution to it. James will be leaving the parish on Monday 17th July. James, you are welcome back anytime you can fit a visit into your schedule.
FR BON’S LEAVING MASS
4pm on Sat 22 July.
Some of you might be considering purchasing Fr Bon a leaving gift but his desire is to
sponsor a seminarian, in Bamenda, therefore financial donations would be more beneficial. (please make cheques payable to St John Bosco) Thank you!
We are looking for volunteer church ushers, car park attendants and people to set up
(putting up marquees, decorations, tables, chairs etc on Thurs 20th—Sat 22nd July) If you can help please put your name on the sign up sheet in the church porch. We are also looking for someone to video the event, if you are able to assist can you please contact Pia or
the parish office. There is a box in the church porch for unwanted disposable plates (all sizes), bowls, cups,
cutlery etc.
Your support in making this event special is much appreciated.
THANK YOU— TREASURE HUNT
To everyone who joined in the Treasure Hunt/BBQ last week-
end. A Good time was had by all and £202 was raised for parish funds. Thank you especially to
Eileen and Barry Ford, who organised the event, cooked the bbq and associated salad etc.
