5th Grade Math CollaborationMay 6 (early release day)12:50 - 3:00 pmDeadline to register is Wednesday, April 29.

Math Collaboration is a special math event that is designed to bemathematically intense, fully collaborative, empowering, leadership-building, communication-developing, friendship-inducing, and mostimportantly FUN.

It is an alternative to math competitions in that Math Collaborations arefully collaborative. All participants win or lose together as a unit and thushave every incentive to share their thoughts and ideas with each other. Infact, they must learn to communicate well in order to succeed.

The Math Collaboration will be run by Kenneth Fan of Girls' Angle, anon-profit, after-school math club for girls. He has successfully run MathCollaborations at several different schools, including previously at Runkle.The event is open to both boys and girls, but space is limited. "Big crowd today," says another teacher.

As we continued to file into the classroom, forming a semi-circle aroundher class, Ms. Rubenstein said, "Is something going on here?...Is it aparty?...What's going on?"

Dr. Lupini stepped forward and said, "I brought these people along with meso I could tell you that you are the winner of the 2015 Caverly Award!" To the uproarious shouts of joy and applause of her students, Ms. R replied,"Wow! This is a big deal!"

On May 12th, at the BEF event entitled "Celebrating Teachers," Ms.Rubenstein along with the high school award recipient (and Runkle Parent)Stephanie McAllister will be honored for all they have given to the PublicSchools of Brookline as outstanding educators! Congratulations!

More Reasons to Celebrate...

Congratulations to our Runkle Soccer Team on a strong start to theseason! We have had two games so far and won both, scoring 8-0 duringthe first game and 5-0 during the second game. Congratulations to CoachPelton and the entire team! GO RUNKLE!

Our spring 7th and 8th grade musical JUST SO, based upon the stories byRudyard Kipling, was a tremendous success! This full-length production,under the direction of Mr. Joe DeMita, impressed the Runkle theatergoerswith three wonderful performances this past weekend. BRAVO to ourtalented cast and crew of students in 7th and 8th grade -- both on stageand behind the scenes! Thank you also to the MANY parents whovolunteered their time and talents to get the show off without a hitch! Aspecial thanks to Mr. DeMita for bringing another wonderful story to life onthe Runkle stage with less than six weeks of rehearsals -- a truly amazingfeat!

(Next week, students who are in the R.E.D. production of Shrek will besharing their talents with the school this Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m.!)
