Dr. Katz, a dynamic speaker, serves as a medical consultant to ABC News and is a featured columnist for O, The Oprah Magazine. A health columnist to the New York Times and creator of: The Nutrition Detectives Program, an innovative nutrition training program for elementary school students and their parents; and also ABC for Fitness (activity bursts in the classroom), a physical activity program for schools intended to distribute bouts of physical activity throughout the school day to cultivate fitness, dissipate restless energy, improve behavior and concentration, and enhance academic performance. (MEDA)Presentation in 8th Grade Health Class

During the unit on eating disorders in health class, the 8th gradershad the opportunity this past Wednesday, Oct. 28 to listen to apersonal perspective by someone working at MEDA in Newton. Kristen spoke to the students about her own experience growingup in a family where one member had a disorder. She talked tothe students about her own struggles and presented importantinformation as well statistics and other facts about eatingdisorders. The students thought she was engaging andinformative.

Brookline Middle School Science FairSaturday, March 6, 2010

Needed: Parent liaison from Runkleto help coordinate with the Devotion PTO

Runkle School students in grades 6-8 are invited to participatein the Brookline Middle School Science Fair this coming March.The Fair qualifies students to participate in the regional andstate-wide competitions. Last year, for the first time forBrookline, students from Devotion and Pierce schools went onto the regional science fair to present their projects and didvery well. They hope to get even broader participation in thissecond year. Runkle Needs a Parent Liason. The parent liaison wouldassume an active role in promoting participation in the MiddleSchool Science Fair, identifying potential student participants,and coordinating activities with students. school activity, please start saving your double-rinsed half-gallon milk and juice cartons.

The box for the cartons will be in the upstairslobby beginning Wednesday, November 4th.

Understanding DisabilitiesProgram

Parent volunteers needed

In December, the 4th Graders will begin theUnderstanding Disabilities program, a town-wideprogram to raise awareness about people livingwith disabilities which focuses on four conditions:visual impairments, physical disabilities, hearingloss, and intellectual impairments. Each session isthree hours long and is held at the school. Parents are needed to help run the program. Even if you don't have a child in the 4th grade, weencourage and welcome your participation. Inparticular, if you know sign language, you wouldbe a vital part of the hearing loss session.
