    2011 Ayrshire Convention

News from your Florida Youth Dairy

    Ambassador—Pamela Mayo

The past couple of months have been filled with exciting events throughout

Florida in relation to the Florida Dairy Industry. These events ranged from

state fairs to visiting smaller groups and organizations to educate them on the

Florida Dairy Industry and attending the Florida Dairy Production Conference

held in Gainesville, Florida. While at the Florida State Fair I participated in

judging competitions and showing dairy cattle; which became the perfect op-

portunity to reach out and answer questions the average consumer and public

had pertaining to the dairy industry. After the fairs slowly came to an end I vis-

ited a local Girl Scout troop that was curious on where exactly their milk

came from and the nutritional value it contained that would help them later in

life. Alongside the fairs and visits I attended the Florida Dairy Production Con-

ference that was held at the end of March. At the conference I met many new

and helpful faces that will be continued resources to expand my knowledge on

the industry. Many of which already make great contributions to the dairy

community. In attending the conference I gained a wider variety of information that has further developed my perspective on the Florida Dairy Industry. As

the youth dairy ambassador I look forward to more events such as these in the

upcoming weeks, alongside presentations pertaining to the industry to the con-

    sumer and public.

….The 2011 Ayrshire Convention which was held June 25-July 2 in Hagers-

town, MD. The Florida Quiz Bowl Teams that competed at the National Ayrshire

Convention did an outstanding job. The Junior Team took 1st place. Team mem-

bers were Alex Pluskot, Ross Laskey and Billy Bob Wehde. The Senior Team was

2nd place and team members were Fallon Curren, William Curren, Austin Pluskot

& Raychel Rabon! Special thanks to Dianne Spann, Kim Pluskot & Robin Laskey for

working with and accompanying to convention! The teams had a great time touring

historic Washington, DC and also catching some MLB action! Congrats again to

    these youth!
