ST EDMUND’S WALKING GROUP Sunday 3 February - Feast Day of St Blaise.

Walk to the Well of St Blaise, Bromley Civic Centre. Meet at Beckenham Place Park Mansion at 12.30 pm.

There is a very steep hill to climb so some may wish to join the group outside Bromley Library at 2.15 from where it is a

short walk to the well. There was a strong devotion to St Blaise in Kent in the medieval times and prayers will be said at the well to

honour this feast day. Details of the next walks are displayed on the notice board

at the back of the church.

THE FEAST OF ST JOHN BOSCO

The Salesian Sisters would like to warmly invite all who can come after morning Mass on Wednesday 30th January (a day early!) to enjoy a cup of tea and help them

celebrate the feast of their patron saint St John Bosco.

They look forward to welcoming you to 25 Village Way!

FAITH IN ACTION 2019 - COMING SOON! Are you aged between 9-18? Read on to find out how you can take up the ‘Faith in Action’ challenge for 2019 and also register now online! ‘Faith in Action’ is a national award scheme from Catholic Youth Ministry Federation (CYMFED) which challenges young people of faith to make a difference in the world through service and spiritual reflection. There are four levels of the award - Pin, Bronze, Silver, Gold and each one recognises and celebrates the good work and positive contribution made by young people in their parishes, schools and communities. In November 2018 we were delighted to celebrate the hard work and achievements of all young people who participated in Faith in Action last year and received awards from Archbishop Peter Smith at the Faith in Action ceremony. All young people in Bromley Deanery aged 9-18 years are invited to take part in the Faith in Action Award Scheme, which will launch for its third year this Sunday 27 January from 2-4pm at St Joseph’s Church, Plaistow Lane, Bromley. So, if you are a young person who reads at Mass, sings or plays an instrument in the choir, altar serves, helps or volunteers in your school or community in any way, then come along to register! Alternatively, you may want to become involved but are not sure how to begin – come along to meet the team and learn more about the range of exciting opportunities open to you. Take a look at our Faith in Action Bromley Deanery videos on YouTube, Facebook @bromleydeanery see: http://www.bromleydeanery.org/?p=526 or email [email protected]. You can also register now online, just visit the link: https://goo.gl/forms/8r6R1NbaI27YFODS2

The price of B&B is £49.50 per adult and £24.75 for under 16s. Travel will be by coach.

If you are interested in joining the pilgrimage please contact Diane Brelu straight away on

PRAYERS FOR THE SICK - LADY CHAPEL

Last autumn when it was decided that the names of the sick would not routinely be read out at each Mass, the list of those who had asked to be remembered in our prayers was displayed in the Lady Chapel and parishioners were invited to add the names of others in need of prayer. This hasn’t been used much but it appears that someone is ‘tidying up’ the names that are pinned there. Please don’t do this. There is space for all who need our prayers.

If ever I’m disappointed with my lot in life, I stop and think about little Jamie Scott. Jamie was trying for a part in his school play. His mother told me that he’d set his heart on being in it, though she feared he would not be chosen. On the day the parts were awarded, I went with her to collect him after school. Jamie rushed up, eyes shining with pride and excitement. Then he said these words that remain a lesson to me: “I’ve been chosen to clap and cheer.” [Marie Curling in Guideposts Magazine]

Laudato Si’ evening in St Joseph’s Parish Hall Bromley This Sunday 27 January at 6.30pm They will be showing the film Before the Flood (a 2016 documentary film about climate change). The poster in the porch gives more information. [Laudato Si’: on care for our common home is written by Pope Francis and is concerned with our treatment of the environment]

CLICK-TO-PRAY-APP

It is estimated that 63% of internet users will be accessing online information via their mobile phone during 2019. It is perhaps more important than ever before to reach out to people using technology and Pope Francis has recently launched his online profile (available on Android and iOS) to 'stay in touch with others, to share values and projects and to express the desire to form a community.’

The pope specifically called for young people to download the Click-to-pray app and pray with him, especially during World Youth Day 2019 in Panama. The app is available in six languages and has an accompanying website, clicktopray.org This is a great way to engage in a daily prayer routine with the Holy Father.

LIFT TO 5.30PM MASS We have an elderly gentleman parishioner who has been a regular attendee at our 5.30 Mass. He is mobile If you could help please would you speak to Deacon Sean.
