Second Reading Ephesians 1:3-6, 15-18

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. He destined us in love to be his sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glori-ous grace which he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the rich-es of his glorious inheritance in the saints.

Collect Almighty God, who didst wonderfully create man in thine own image, and didst yet more wonderfully restore him: grant, we beseech thee, that as thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ was made in the likeness of men, so we may be made partakers of the divine nature; through the same Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen.

First Reading Sirah 24:1-2, 8-12

Wisdom will praise herself, and is honored in God, and will

glory in the midst of her people. In the assembly of the

Most High she will open her mouth, and in the presence of

his host she will glory. In the midst of her people she is

exalted; in holy fulness she is admired. In the multitude of

the chosen she finds praise, and among the blessed she is

blessed, saying: “The Creator of all things gave me a com-

mandment, and the one who created me assigned a place for

my tent. And he said, ‘Make your dwelling in Jacob, and in

Israel receive your inheritance. and among my chosen put

down your roots.’ From eternity, in the beginning, he creat-

ed me, and for eternity I shall not cease to exist. In the holy

tabernacle I ministered before him, and so I was established

in Zion. In the beloved city likewise he gave me a resting

place, and in Jerusalem was my dominion. So I took root in

an honored people, in the portion of the Lord, who is their

inheritance, and my abode was in the full assembly of the

saints.”

THE HOLY GOSPEL John 1:1-18

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God; all things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came for testimony, to bear witness to the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness to the light. The true light that enlightens every man was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world knew him not. He came to his own home, and his own people received him not. But to all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God; who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only-begotten Son from the Father. (John bore witness to him, and cried, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me ranks before me, for he was before me.'") And from his fulness have we all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God; the only-begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, he has made him known.

NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING CLASS The Couple to Couple League will present a class in Natural Family Planning on January 16th at 9:30 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti CC, Arlington. NEW: VIRTUAL and ON-LINE CLASSES ARE ALSO AVAILABLE. CHECK THE WEBSITE www.ccli.org “Live the Love” with NFP classes. Couples work toward building a better marriage with NFP. It is highly effective in achieving or avoiding pregnancy. NFP is morally acceptable to the Catholic Church & free from medical side effects. The instruc-tions include a series of 3 monthly classes.
