Home Remedies for Monsoon Ailments

Come monsoon and sooner or later we succumb to a few of the most common ailments of this season. Viral fever, cold and cough are the most common health complaints of this season. Let's look at some home remedies to take care of these routine illnesses.

Viral Fever

Though viral fevers can be of many kinds, the one strain that is very common during monsoons involves symptoms like fever, a running nose, sore throat and loose motions. While one can just live with it for ive days and let it run its normal course, we can also speed up recovery by following some of these home remedies.

·Include a lot of luids in your diet

·Add a generous dose of onions and garlic into your soups

·Dehydration plays a major role in bringing on migraines

·Warm orange juice increases urine output which helps lush out toxins from your body thereby reducing fever naturally

Cough & Cold

This is the most notorious season for colds and coughs accompanied by headache. The chances of recurring cold and cough are highest in this season.

1. Inhale steam once or twice a day to get relief from cold2. Thrice a day have a mixture of lime (Vitamin C), honey (source

of instant energy), ginger and tulsi in warm water. This is curative in the case of cough, cold and fever

3. Mix lemon juice, black pepper powder and salt and suck it to reduce the intensity of cough

4. A spoon full of turmeric powder with warm water or milk if taken for 3-4 days, helps treat cold and cough

5.Apples help treat a dry cough6.Freshly prepared radish juice is a good remedy for cold

That time of the month when you have your periods can be

absolutely daunting. The pain, cramping and fatigue can get to

the best of us and all you really want to do is just lie in bed,

praying for that pain and discomfort to end. If only there were a

magic pill to do away with all those irritating symptoms? Well,

you don't really need pills to make the pain vanish. Here are

some handy home remedies that can help.

Why do periods hurt so much?

Menstrual cramps are caused due to the shedding of the inner lining of the uterine wall. This

shedding is assisted by a host of hormones, the master being 'prostaglandins'. Now that we

know why we suffer from menstrual cramps, here are some tips to help relieve the discomfort:

Keep up the exercise: ·It is important that you continue with gentle exercise during your periods. ·It is natural to feel bloated before your periods, if you reduce your salt intake a few days before your periods it will help your kidneys lush out excess water. ·

Dress for comfort: Avoid tight clothes, especially at the waist. They only hurt the stomach and further compressing it causes discomfort. Leave that belly alone!

'Weight training will make me look like a man”“I don't want to look bulky”“It's not good for a woman to pick up dumbells”

These are the common misconception which a woman always carried in her head. Let us clear all the myths and know more amazing facts about weight training.Weight training benefit: GPP (General Physical Preparedness) Weight training is mimicry of the daily activity we perform. Example, a dead lift, is exactly the mimicry of the bucket or the gas cylinder you pick up at home. If picking up gas cylinder cannot make you look like a man, then definitely barbell will not make you look like one. Weight training is just a way to make you prepared to pick up heavy objects at home effortlessly in your daily routine, without getting injured. This is known as GPP (general physical preparedness).

Weight Training benefit: Complete fat lossHave you ever felt the pain in the body when you pick up something heavy? This is due to the lact ic acid accumulation in the muscles because of its breakdown. This pain takes 2 days to recover. Now for these next 2 days, body burns fat as a fuel to recover muscles. Similarly weight training, burns more number of muscles leading to FAT LOSS. This state of fat loss for 48hours is known as EPOC (excess post exercise oxygen consumption). That means, if you did lower body weight training today, you will burn fat for next 48 hours even when you are sitting in your office or home, or anywhere. Weight training will raise you BMR (Basal metabolic rate) which gradually reduces your body fat percentage.

Best weight loss method for women

Natural remedies to reduce pain during your menstrual periods.

Try some home remedies:Remedy #1: A great pain reliever medicine, its antispasmodic qualities help make the pain that much more bearable.Remedy #2: Raspberry leaf or jasmine flavoured green tea work wonders in calming the body and mind.Remedy #3: Include a glass of milk in your breakfast. Calcium is a good cure for cramps. If you are not such a 'milk' person or are lactose intolerant about 600mg (2-4 tablets) of calcium chewable should do the trick.Remedy #4: Have generous helpings of papaya during and before your periods. Papaya contains 'papain' an enzyme that helps to regulate and helps to ease the flow during menstruation.Remedy #5: Carrots are not only good for your eyes; they also assist in regulating menstruation. A tall glass of carrot juice can go a long way in making you feel much better.

EmpowHerWOMEN OF INSPIRATION

REFLECTIONS - ARE YOU LOVING YOURSELF ENOUGH?

Woman' - the definition of a woman has changed a lot over time. However, the essence of "Her" has remained the same. We have become strong, independent, and self -sufficient. The core, however still remains that of Love and Compassion. Why does this happen that even for the most strong, self -sufficient lady, everything changes after marriage? Why does this happen that she is expected to carry out the roles and responsibilities of being a daughter, a wife, a mother, an employee, a boss, a teacher, a mentor, a lover, a helper all with perfection? We have come across various texts, messages and excerpts stating that women being equally educated and equally well settled like men are bound to fulfil all these responsibilities almost alone. Why don't we take action and take a stand?

I guess, finding the answers to these questions can be a task!! I am not

asking anyone here to start bossing around in the house or stomping feet to get your work done from other members or even specifically your partner. I completely understand we operate from the heart and it is only natural to do so. But my question is where do we draw a line? We give, give and give. Sometimes even without even complaining. Sometimes more than we actually have. We wait. We get hurt. We cry alone and we stand strong in the midst of all circumstances. We take care of the entire family. Do we take enough care of ourselves? All I want to convey is that, it is only because of this reason that we are taken advantage of! It is because we don't respect ourselves enough to honour our personal space that each one demands what they want and we deliver. No matter how strong on the surface a woman is, she always need love attention and care. I am sure many of you will agree to this - All a woman wants, is to be 'cherished'.

It is high time ladies that YOU start respecting and loving your own self. You are a channel of love, agreed. But you can only give as much as you have. So start filling your mind and body with positive and loving thoughts about yourself. If no one does, you appreciate yourself. Love yourself first. Respect yourself enough to say NO when you really want to.

REAL SPIRIT OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP CROSSES ALL SET FUNDAMENTALS

Lijjat, the very name make one remember the famous advertisement "karamkurum, kuramkaram". The incorporation of this crisp company Shri Mahilagriha udyog lijjat papad started way back in 1959when on a bright sunny day 7women got together on a terrace in Mumbai to make papad for some festival. These 7 Gujarati women who had met casually, then decided not to turn back. Though there weren't formally educated, they had the skill -the real skill to make good papad. They recognised their skill and decided to take it ahead whole heartedly.

With just 80 rupees as their initial funding, they began their business. Steadily more hands started to join which in turn increased their production. They had one straight rule - not to compromise on quality. They were strict with their quality standards and till this date they stand by it. They have mostly women members. Men were hired only for contractual purpose. They called each other "Ben" which means sisters. Though they weren't literate, their simple rules of management and accounting have formulated and surprised the nation and many other entrepreneurs. They practised to share equal profits and losses among all the members irrespective of their designation, work done, caste or status. This golden rule made each member give their best efforts in favour of the company.

As time passed by, and more women joined in lijjat formulated on another wonderful idea to cut down its infrastructural & management cost. They had divided their work into three simple stages.1) knitting the dough2) packing 3) delivery.Only the packing and testing was conducted in the factory unit. The main function of rolling papad and drying them was the most well managed technique which is followed till date.

Every morning a group of women go to their respective lijjat branch to knead dough ,which is then collected by other women who roll papad. When these women come to collect their share of dough they hand over the rolled papads of the previous day. They received cash on delivery, once the papad pass the quality test .Lijjat never compromised on their quality irrespective of size of the order. The biggest or the smallest orders were obstructed if they did not match the quality standards.

The concept that ladies were allowed to take the dough home and roll papad when at ease from other domestic chores created a lot of attraction for more women to join in. Obviously this was granted only after a routine check of the hygiene and cleanliness of their house. This helped women to well balance their household culture which had this orthodox phenomenon that women should not go out-door for job/work. Since women made papads at home, lijjat never required huge infrastructure which helped them work their cost better .Since they had different regional units, the packing and delivery was smoothly carried forward.

Daily payment gave women better confidence and satisfaction for work done and kept free flow of funds to meet their requirements.Lijjat has stood as a wonderful example of the best management skills and systematic planning.

These 7 women paved a successful path of sheer inspiration & have now transformed life of more than lakhs of women in the society by providing them a source of recruitment, respect, protection, independence and the spirit of entrepreneurship.Editor H.shah

What is a Systematic Investment Plan?

A Systematic Investment Plan or SIP is a smart and hassle free mode

for investing money in mutual funds. SIP allows you to invest a certain pre-

determined amount at a regular interval (weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc.). A

SIP is a planned approach towards investments and helps you inculcate the

habit of saving and building wealth for the future.

How does it work?

A SIP is a flexible and easy investment plan. Your money is auto-

debited from your bank account and invested into a specific mutual fund

scheme. You are allocated certain number of units based on the ongoing

market rate (called NAV or net asset value) for the day.

Every time you invest money, additional units of the scheme are purchased at

the market rate and added to your account. Hence, units are bought at

different rates and investors benefit from Rupee-Cost Averaging and the

Power of Compounding.

Power of Compounding

The rule for compounding is simple - the sooner

you start investing, the more time your money has to grow.

Example

If you started investing Rs. 10000 a month on your 40th birthday, in 20 years

time you would have put aside Rs. 24 lakhs. If that investment grew by an

average of 7% a year, it would be worth Rs. 52.4 lakhs when you reach 60.

However, if you started investing 10 years earlier, your Rs. 10000 each month

would add up to Rs. 36 lakh over 30 years. Assuming the same average annual

growth of 7%, you would have Rs. 1.22 Cr on your 60th birthday - more than

double the amount you would have received if you had started ten years later!

Disciplined Saving - Discipline is the key to successful investments. When you invest through SIP, you commit yourself to save regularly. Every investment is a step towards attaining your financial objectives.Flexibility - While it is advisable to continue SIP investments with a long-term perspective, there is no compulsion. Investors can discontinue the plan at any time. One can also increase/ decrease the amount being invested.

All of this can sound stupid right now. But trust me! Once

you start practicing compassion on your -self, you will

weave a more profound life of love in and around you. It

all starts with you!! Do you love yourself enough to do so?

More than that, do you dare to be YOU?

LIFESTYLEFRIENDSHIP'S MONTH COMING

With friendship day coming in August, REPORTher would take an insight on what it takes to build up a good friendship for life.1. Don't take friendships for grantedDon't forget that friendship is a choice, not an obligation. If you don't value your friendships, they'll eventually disappear. It is a bond which both parties have to maintain equally. In today's hectic world, we are constantly on the go. If we ignore our friendships, they drift away until one day we wonder what happened to the people who were so important in our lives.2. Find ways to make lives betterYou don't have to reach out to friends only during times of hardship. Find ways to add value to their lives. If they're busy with a project, offer to help. If they work long hours, surprise them with a home-cooked meal, give a quick call and say hello, all this will surely ease their pain and bond both well in long run .Find ways to help your friends and they will be truly grateful but even more appreciative of your thoughtfulness.3. Spend time with friendsThis may seem like a no-brainer but when was the last time you spent some quality time with your friends?Understandably, the demands of work or family consume most our time. Our daily lives may be an endless to-do list but it is always possible to set time aside for friends. Pre book your time or day of the week for friend time!4. Communicate with them regularlyIn addition to not allocating enough time to spend with friends, lack of communication also affects your friendships. In a world where technology makes it so easy to communicate, reaching out to a friend nowadays requires only a quick text message, brief email, phone call or visit.Be proactive in keeping in touch even if it's just to say hello and see how they're doing.

A friend is one that knows you as you are, understands where you have been, accepts what you have become, and still, gently allows you to grow - William Shakespeare

CANCER (June 21 – July 22)Confusion, confusion, confusion! This is not the right time to make any choices or important decisions ladies. Your understanding capacity and view is an illusion. Making wrong choices could lead to trouble. Fear and anxiety will overwhelm you time and again. Clashes and differences of opinions at the home and work front will keep you upset. This will also affect your children to a great extent. The collected anger, emotion s and pain inside can cause mental or even physical health issues. Love life is on a standstill for you. LEO (July 23 – August 22)Public recognition and popularity are yours this month. You will be bold, daring and outgoing all month. Leadership qualities will automatically come to the fore when required. People will willingly follow you and your guidance now. Pleasant atmosphere all throughout. Make sure you are not too engulfed in the bliss and joy that you start abusing your power. Or a fall from grace is sure. Although this a good time to move ahead and progress in your chosen field of work. Take the lead in your love life and let your partner be swept off his feet for a change.
