We May Be Moving Again

Escondido has been the home for our library for 51 years, and we have cer-tainly moved around. Just in the past eight years that I have been a volunteer, I’ve seen three changes. Spirit moves us in many ways, thus physically, we seem to get moved around also. We’re grateful that our loyal members seem to find us wherever we are. People will come in and say “I’ve been coming since you were on Grand.” and “I remember when you were on Felicita.”

Currently, the strip mall where we “live” is going to be remodeled. Plans have been submitted to the city and we may not be part of the new configuration. As you can well imagine, packing up and moving our 12,000 book collection and bookcases as well our gift store is not an easy task—one that can’t be done in one day. So, trying to plan ahead, we are looking for a possible new “home”. We certainly want to be in a place conven-ient to you, our members, so we are ask-ing for your input. Where would you like the library to be located? Do you know of any property for lease that would be a good place for the library? Do you know anyone that is interested in sharing

space? If so, PLEASE let us know. Email the library, [email protected], with your ideas and suggestions.

Board members have been meeting on Sat-urday afternoons, brainstorming for ways to generate income. Our current rent is lower than the average, and so moving to a new location will most likely incur a higher ex-pense. Also, we will have moving costs. Donations for moving expenses can be a tax write-off since we are a 501(c) (3) insti-tution.

If you would like to come to our next “brainstorming” session, it will be October 18th at 1 p.m. We want to be ready should we suddenly be faced with a notice telling us we have to be out quickly. Someone once said “forewarned is forearmed” and we’ve had the warning….with your help we’ll be prepared!

Hope you are all enjoying the beginnings of fall weather (finally!). It’s even cooled off enough to plan a picnic. Hope you can join us on the 12th (see p. 2 for details).

Love and light to all……….. Jan

Lapis Lazuli

Page 2

The legends, reports, and stories surrounding lapis lazuli date back to 5,000 B.C. For the Assyrians, lapis lazuli was the holy stone Uknu which brought the blue of the sky and with it the light of the gods to the earth. A compound word, it is made up of the Arabic azul, meaning “blue sky”, and the Latin lapis mean-ing “stone”. Being the stone of ancient rulers, burial objects made of lapis were found in the ancient royal tombs of Ur by the Euphrates River. Rulers also wore it for its protective properties and as an ornament. All cultures have used this stone to decorate the statues of their divinities.

Lapis promotes clear understanding and intuition. It also helps the balanced functioning of the thyroid gland while strengthening the neck and vocal cords. Because it has hypotensive properties it would NOT be used to treat people with low blood pressure. It is effective against depression, promotes bonding and strengthens idealism. It symbolizes inspiration and wisdom and helps disorganization. Once a month, lapis should be put in a bowl with tumbled hematite stones and then recharged in a mass of rock crys-tals.

The stone is effective on the forehead (third eye) and throat chakras. Astrologically, it is a lucky stone for Sagittarius, giving the power of friendship and help in making decisions. The colors range from light blue, azure blue to violet-blue with speckled inclusions. We have beautiful lapis lazuli stones available in the store for just $3.00. Check them out!

Select Varieties of Incense

Incense is not just to make the room smell nice. There are physical and psychological benefits as well. Smell has a power-ful effect on the body! You may realize that a particular smell may bring up good memories and thus, have a powerful posi-tive effect on you, whereas smells that remind us of some-thing terrible have the opposite effect.

Incense goes back thousands of years to the early cultures of India and North Africa. It has been used in many spiritual and religious ceremonies with profound physical effects on the mind/body. The purity of the incense matters, and the in-cense that we have in the store is of the highest quality, com-pletely natural and devoid of any synthetic substances. Some varieties available are:

• Nag Champa—probably the world’s most popular in-cense. Contains a large portion of sandalwood. Name comes from the Champa flower.

• Moldavite—a product of a meteor collision with earth, 15 million years ago. Great for healing, meditation and dreamwork.

• Sandalwood—one of the oldest incense materials. It is one of the most calming incenses and therefore preferred for meditation., calming the mind, enhancing mental clar-ity and aiding in opening the Third Eye.

• Kalachakra—traditional Tibetan incense, purely hand prepared from highly flavored medicinal herbs and other precious substances.

• Wisdom incense—highest quality, also Tibetan, made with rare herbs grown naturally in the Himalayas.

Come over and make a selection from our many varieties—try a few different sticks. We also have some natural wood small cones and these cones are ON SALE this month….20% off. Crysta

Fridays with Lyndi, 1-5:00 p.m. Fridays with Lyndi is going from nothing to something. Thanks

to the interest of those people coming by, a theme of energy dynamics is beginning to unfold. Whether it is the energy of the planet, cosmos, parks or cities, we all have a collective conscious-ness of feeling the different vibrations run through the physical without even knowing it.

Without putting names to any particular source, the theme circling around energy is general. Now with inherited karma making the scene, the oneness of all is making more sense. Come in

and let’s create, for one never knows what will come about. Experiences are happening, Mary Joy coming and playing her crystal bowls as we talk. Feel the difference. We are a work in process. $5 Library dona-tion; Info: [email protected]

Jyorei Healings on TuesdaysJyorei Healings on TuesdaysJyorei Healings on TuesdaysJyorei Healings on Tuesdays For the past two months, Francois Kuwata has been coming to

the library two Tuesdays a month, offering Jyorei healings.

Jyorei is a healing art that focuses on spiritual light that gradu-

ally penetrates and dissolves the spiritual clouds that cause

physical, emotional, and personal dilemmas. “Jyorei” means

“Purification of the spirit.” Meishusama developed this healing

practice as a treatment for physical infirmities during the

1930s. Jyorei’s healing technique, as practiced by Shumei members, took its final form in 1947 a few years before Me-

ishusama’s passing.

Jyorei is a shared act, usually involving two people, one who

gives and one who receives. Besides profound healing, the

person receiving Jyorei may experience a sensation of tranquil-

ity and wellbeing. The nature of Jyorei is such that its bless-

ings are even greater for the giver. Not only does the giver

benefit by Jyorei but he or she also gains a larger capacity for

compassion and love for others and Jyorei’s many blessings

extend not only to the giver but to all with whom he or she shares spiritual cords.

The beauty of Jyorei is that it is not reserved for members of a

spiritual or religious elite but can be practiced by all who are

affiliated with Shinji Shumeikai and have an Ohikari. It can be

given any place and to anyone. Jyorei is one of three of the

most important activities in which Shumei is involved. The

other two are Natural Agriculture and fostering an appreciation

of Art. Together, these three pursuits reflect Shumei’s commit-

ment to spiritual and physical healing, a healthy environment,

and beauty. For more information on ShuMei and Jyorei, see

www.shumei.org.
