THE SHAKTI KUMAON LITTLE TREK

Shakti offers trekking and camping in Kumaon (close to Shakti 360˚ Leti) with

fantastic views of the highest peaks of India. This camping experience takes you on a

four night/five day trek and gains altitude from 2398 m/7867 ft to the maximum

elevation of 3266 m/10778 ft. This trek offers you an insight into the unexplored

Kumaon villages since it is not on the regular trekking route.

Our treks require a reasonable level of fitness and are in remote areas, high altitudes

and with the usual Shakti service and style. We recommend starting the trek after at

least 1 or 2 nights stay in a Shakti Kumaon Village House and ending with at least 3

nights at Shakti 360˚ Leti.

Day 1 Shakti Village House – Lojiyadhar

Driving Time: 5 ½ hrs

Duration of the walk: 1 ½ hrs (1.5 km)

Altitude: 2424 m (7952 ft)

This morning after an early breakfast at the village house, you will be driven for five and a half hours

(stopping en route for picnic lunch) to Lojiyadhar, from where you will walk for around an hour and

a half through a shepherd’s trail to your tented accommodation at the Vinayak Top.

On arrival at the campsite, you will enjoy some cool towels and rhododendron juice to quench your

thirst. Later in the evening, enjoy a round of drinks by the campfire and a delicious dinner under the

stars prepared and cooked by your very own private Chef.

Day 2 Vinayak Top – Lodhura

Duration: 8hrs (13 km)

Altitude: 2975 m (9760 ft)

Ideally an early breakfast and on the route should ensure you reach Lodhura, your second campsite

well before dark.

Today’s walk will involve crossing of four hilltops - a combination of steep uphill and downhill

stretches with spectacular views of the snow covered peaks in front of you. Lunch will be served en-

route and wherever you may want to have it.

On reaching the campsite, relax in the comfort of your chair followed by a sumptuous dinner in a

perfectly spectacular and romantic setting.

Day 3 Lodhura – Kimu

Duration: 8h – 9h (15 km)

Altitude: 2398 m (7867 ft)

Today’s walk is the most scenic and dramatic one, with the Nanda Devi peak right in your face in

addition to the other peaks. You will cross some glacial streams till you find a marked path used by

villagers to get from one village to another.

Follow this path for about two hours and you’re in Kimu, your campsite for the night. Kimu is a

picturesque village with 52 families residing in it. It faces the Hiramani range and glacier and also the

Namik glacier.

You could spend your evening relaxing and admiring the scenery. Drinks will be served on arrival

and dinner later in the evening around the campfire.

Day 4 Kimu – Gailgari, Namik

Duration: 6h - 8h (12 km)

Altitude: 2664 m (8740 ft)

You will walk from your Campsite right through the Kimu village, maybe interact with the kids at

school if you’d like or just witness the daily village life.

You will then follow a pathway leading to the Ramganga River, cross an interesting makeshift bridge

(two birch trees laid end to end, resting on huge boulders and a handrail for support) to get to the

other side. Enjoy a dip in the cool waters before you again make a steep ascent to Namik village

which is directly overhead the Ramganga River. It should take you about 2 hours to reach the village.

From Namik to your campsite is another two hours through a very picturesque yew trail (many yew

trees) and then you are almost there to your campsite, set on a bhugiyal (meadow) and very peaceful

with good views around.

There are walking options from the Campsite should you feel you want to stretch your legs a bit

more. Enjoy drinks in the evening in this mesmerizing setting followed by a delicious dinner.

Day 5 Gailgari, Namik – Shakti Leti 360˚

Duration: 7h – 8h (12 km)

Altitude: 2177 m (7142 ft)

Today marks the end of your Shakti camping experience. After a late breakfast, you will start out for

a downhill walk all the way to Namik and to the Ramganga River which should take two hours.

Cross a suspension bridge and make an uphill climb for about an hour till the track flattens relatively

up to Gogina, your next destination.

A Government road is being constructed that will connect Gogina to other villages further

southwest. You could opt to walk on this road or if you would like we could have you driven all the

way to Leti 360˚.
