The Shortest Distance Between You and Improved

Most organizations take the same path to planning and execution of strategy. That approach includes agreement on direction, introduction of methods for performance improvement, and monitoring of results. Why are these results often not sustainable? It is generally due to a “gap” in the organization’s capability, somewhere along the journey. Such gaps are the enemy of excellence, and prevent organizations from ever experiencing the flywheel effect defined in Jim Collins’ landmark book Good to Great.

No matter where you are in your journey to excellence, no matter what gaps exist, CHC offers solutions to deliver quick results, long-term sustainability and unparalleled returns. Take a quick tour around our “PI Continuum” and you’ll agree – Creative Healthcare belongs on your team!

G E T Q U I C K W I N SKRAFT KAIZENSSM

The standard meaning for “Kaizen” is “continuous quality improvement”. This methodology is customized to each client and includes process improvement, monitoring results, then adjusting in pursuit of perfection. These engagements are limited in scope to well-defined but persistent challenges. They generally involve 2 to 4 weeks for planning, 3 to 5 days for the event itself, and 3 to 4 weeks for follow up.

RAPID ACTION PLANNINGSM

Many challenges in performance improvement do not demand a rigorous approach but rather a simple problem-solving methodology. RAP is a powerful solution built on the successful “WorkOut” method pioneered originally by GE. CHC’s one day RAP training program is an effective complement to Lean and Six Sigma programs, since many problems that may appear to be candidates for advanced methods can actually be solved using the RAP method. Clients that employ the RAP method in their organization recognize Rapid Action Planning is all about rapid results.

LEAN SIGMA ACCELERATORSM

P E R F O R M A N C E I M P R OV E M E N T I N F R A S T R U C T U R ECANDIDATE ASSESSMENT & SUPPORT PROGRAM

Do you have the right people on the bus? Management gurus have long held that having the right people on your team is critical; anything less, and you may find your best efforts without wings. This program recognizes that PI work is not for everyone, and applies an empirically-validated tool to identify those best qualified to support your efforts. It compares your own candidates to a baseline of proven PI professionals, and yields a report to assess the “fit” of training candidates – assisting you to make the right investments in the right people, and creating a roadmap to coach everyone on your team to new heights.

BUILDING STRONG LEAN SIGMA TEAMS

CHC recognizes that not every employee in your organization will have had training or experience in managing project teams. This program is designed to help team leaders quickly build effective communication and management skills and to identify the behavioral and communications “needs” and preferences of each member of their team.

Over 100 years of collective experience in healthcare performance improvement gives CHC an edge in supporting every engagement. We’ve learned a thing or two about how to support client success. CHC will help you build the internal infrastructure to launch successful projects the first time, and every time.

E X E C U T E , P E R F O R M & T R A C KLEAN SIX SIGMA (LSS) LEADERSHIP TRAINING

Executive leaders, VP’s and management level leadership require specific training in both LSS principles and deployment strategies in order to create a supportive environment and infrastructure. Creative Healthcare recognizes that each group’s requirements are different by offering two distinct levels of training.

LEAN SIGMA CHAMPION TRAINING

Designed for your VP and Management level leadership, this course covers the mechanics of conducting Lean Sigma projects, as well as guidance in managing multiple teams and providing support for their efforts. Management “Champions” learn the theory behind the methods, and how to recognize when they are working, or when they need support.

LEADING WITH EMOTIONAL AND BEHAVIORAL INTELLIGENCE

This course will prepare executives to lead their organization more effectively by equipping them with the foundational skills of emotional and behavioral intelligence.

• Leaders will gain practical insight into building their own critical “soft” skills, such as interpersonal communication, influencing followers, conflict avoidance and resolution, and other critical competencies.

• Leaders will learn how to implement a leadership style that resonates with their direct reports, leading to increased personal effectiveness for the leader and a more satisfying working environment for direct reports.

Both Champion and Emotional Intelligence training are essential to any competent LSS deployment!

LEAN FACILITATOR CLASSROOM TRAINING & CERTIFICATION

CHC’s Lean Facilitator training was built in collaboration with the American Society for Quality (ASQ). Students in this 5-day program will conduct projects and become formally recognized for the competencies they acquire in performance improvement. This training is frequently combined with our Continuous Learning Laboratory™ to create the ideal learning environment.

SIX SIGMA CLASSROOM TRAINING & CERTIFICATION

CHC’s Six Sigma training curriculum was designed from the ground up for the healthcare industry. All content, case studies and quiz materials are specific to healthcare. Six Sigma training is available onsite or online through our Continuous Learning Laboratory™ (see back page). CHC instructors average 15 years in the healthcare industry and can identify immediately with the challenges facing your organization.

Most clients start with a class of Green Belt training or Black Belt training to establish an initial infrastructure, followed by rounds of Yellow Belt training, which will extend the capabilities of these methods deep into the organization. All Six Sigma training is consistent with the ASQ Body of Knowledge, and all students that complete the coursework and a certified project will receive a diploma and affidavit validating acquired competencies. This training is frequently combined with our Continuous Learning Laboratory™ to constitute a “blended learning” environment.

PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT (PI) COACHING AND MENTORING

All students in CHC’s Lean, Six Sigma and Lean Six Sigma training programs are matched to a CHC consultant who will serve as their “Performance Improvement Coach” for the duration of our engagement. The coach will meet in person or virtually with the student as they proceed through the material and their certification project. This relationship ensures smooth and timely completion of the coursework and project, which is critical to realizing the full ROI potential of the program.

L E A N , S I X S I G M A & I S O 9 0 0 1 — N AT U R A L C O M PA N I O N SISO QUALITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS – HOW & WHY — IN PLAIN ENGLISH

You have invested enormous time energy and money in building your quality system, and now you are ready for the challenge of adopting ISO 9001 – the most widely used quality management system on the planet. You need to get the full value from your existing investment, while launching your health system on a path to simultaneously capture the full value of ISO – you want years of continual improvement ahead – and to get certification as painlessly as possible. You need a trusted partner who can work with your team, and help build and modify your resources to thrive in an ISO operating environment.

The key components to make an ISO implementation work:

• Senior Management needs to be supportive, and the institution’s objectives need to be made clear in a quality mission, plan and review process. Most people have these in place, but ISO will take management involvement to a new level!

• Policies and procedures need to be validated through internal audits. These functions are the engines of regulatory compliance and data generation for validation of process effectiveness and continuous improvement.

• Planning, training, resource utilization and relationships with outside parties need to be conformed to best practices and ISO requirements.

• You must prove that you do what you say, and you are effective at it. You must have a bullet-proof process for avoiding problems when you can, and fixing problems when you don’t; you are always getting better, and

• You can prove that the Patient Always Comes First.

The team at Creative Healthcare brings decades of experience in ISO implementations – with a proven track record in delivering long-term value. We know how to make the most out of your existing investment, and will use it to build a durable ISO framework for future improvements. This is a big job – that’s why the deeming authorities give you three years to get it done. You probably have all of the minimum requirements in place today – but they don’t function in a manner that really works for ISO.

O U R J O B A S YO U R PA RT N E R I S TO : • Understand what you have, then measure your

existing resources against a CHC-designed implementation plan,

• Help fix the biggest and riskiest problems first – our value is really knowing what these are relative to what you’ve got, and

• Making sure that you get the biggest “bang-for-the buck,” by building a durable and effective system, and getting you certified!

If this makes sense to you —

let’s talk — in plain English.

E X PA N D CA PA B I L I T I E SCONTINUOUS LEARNING LABORATORY™

CHC is proud to offer the industry’s most robust online training application for performance improvement. Used as the basis for training programs offered by ACHE and ASQ, the Learning Laboratory can be configured to offer the complete curriculum in both Lean and Six Sigma. Drive these methods deep into your organization with the economy and efficiency of online learning!

More than a “one off” experience, the Learning Lab includes tools and templates for project support. The “Audio Pilot” feature allows students to have the program run automatically, as if in a classroom lecture. Interactive games and quizzes confirm understanding of course content, and case studies demonstrate direct application in a healthcare organization through real projects, with real results. Six Sigma students also receive SigmaXL®, a statistical analysis package that can be downloaded for use in supporting project work.

DESIGN FOR SIX SIGMA (DFSS)

As rigorous as Six Sigma but not as reliant on data, DFSS is the method preferred by sophisticated organizations seeking to build what does not exist today. Use DFSS to “build” anything, from a new centralized scheduling department to a new hospital! CHC can deliver DFSS as either a consulting product, or part of a more robust training program.

SIMULATION SOLUTIONS

Making changes to clinical environments can be expensive, time consuming, and risky. Computer-based process simulation allows an organization to make changes in resource allocation in a virtual manner. The process, personnel, and all parameters affected can be examined and quantified. This approach works well when multiple factors may be changed as part of the overall solution, allowing the full effect of interaction between factors to be evaluated before making any change to the process itself. By the time changes are implemented, positive results have already been forecast. Simulation solutions are ideally suited for optimizing patient throughput or supply logistics, staff a new or reorganized department, and answering the question, “what if we made a change?”
