This.production.of.Mamma Mia!.is.our.final.show.of.the.2017/18.season.at.the.Stanley.Industrial.Alliance.Stage ..As.I.look.back.on.the.twenty.seasons.since.the.Stanley.opened.as.a.live.theatre.venue.in.1998.(it.had.first.opened.as.a.movie-house.in.1930),.I.can.trace.the.evolution.of.the.productions.that.we.have.presented.on.this.historic.stage ..We.opened.with.the.musical.revue.Swing.and.closed.that.first.season.with.a.new.musical,.Easy Money ..Indeed,.the.Arts.Club.has.produced.many.musicals.over.the.course.of.54.seasons,.but.our.programming.has.always.been.eclectic:.the.Stanley.season.opened.with.Angels in America: Perestroika,.the.second.part.of.the.epic.work.by.Tony.Kushner ..Presenting.drama.is.part.of.our.mandate.and.the.award-winning.director.Kim.Collier.gave.us.an.Angels in America.production.that.was.stimulating,.challenging,.and.highly.theatrical ..The.second.production.of.the.season,.King Charles III.by.British.playwright.Mike.Bartlett,.was.given.an.unusual.treatment.by.director.Kevin.Bennett,.who.brought.a.sense.of.“open.play”.to.this.verse.piece.in.that.the.actors.were.allowed.flexibility.in.how.they.approached.each.performance ..At.the.start.of.2018,.David.French’s.theatre-world.farce.Jitters graced.the.Stanley.Stage ..French.was.an.early.influence.on.Canadian.theatre.with.his.plays.set.in.Newfoundland ..I.wanted.to.celebrate.his.work.by.bringing.one.of.his.best-known.plays.to.one.of.our.stages ..
