The assessment of deficits of professional activities (digital librarianship, the creation of a

Why The SDW Was Created?
Professional Background and Basic Deficits
Creating a regional digital library = “engineering” librarianship.
Preparation of the digital content. ->how to cut costs?
50 contributors and different levels of competence.
-> how to make the transfer of skills?
Participants’ lack of equipment. -> how to fill the gaps?
Main Goal
“The aim of the project is to equip and launch the Social Digitization Workshop,
where work will be conducted for the development of the Silesian Digital
Library ...”
part of the application
Especially ...
Creation of digital content by volunteers, interns and employees (scanning, processing of graphics, cataloguing,
publication in the SDL).
Free training opportunities and support (consultation, technical assistance, processing) for institutions (co-creators) of the SDL.
Hardware and software sharing.
And …
Media education: classes for people interested in becoming familiar with new digital techniques
and computer networks.
“E-inclusion”: providing access to equipment and Internet services.
- Seniors (team of 12 people)
- Students
- Staff of other cultural institutions (about 50 people).
(transfer of competence: the participants SDL and also
the curators of Auschwitz, school librarians, librarians creating other regional digital
libraries in Poland)
Activities of the SDW: (learning digital technologies - media education - learning digital preservation
techniques - promoting of digital libraries)
The Target Groups

How does one attract them to new,
unknown technology?
How does one overcome their fears?
How to teach them?

Computer skills - providing competence.Organisation of workshops - the use of computer and Internet services (e-mail, Web,
instant messaging and interesting sites).
