We are blessed because we do not have to do this alone. Join with our church family in helping grow the Kingdom of God in the different ministries we have. What a blessing to be a part of SMCC! With great love, Andrew Shue

Time Flies! Can you believe that school starts in just a few short weeks? As children, I think we can all remember how short our summers seemed. But, the old colloquial expression rings true, “time flies when you’re having fun”. In my own life, I’ve experienced events that seemed to stop time and then have had months that seem to vanish within the blink of an eye. I want each of you to know that I feel like my time here at SMCC seems to be flying by. Indeed, I am having a blast getting to know the congregation! God has blessed this church with a tremendous group of people. Do you know the response that I get when I tell people in the community that I’m the pastor at Southwood? “There are some great people out there!” I agree whole heartedly and I enjoy spending every minute with you. To be honest, I’m praying for time to slow so I can cherish this time more. My family has fallen in love with our church family. We are growing and we are strengthening our bonds every single day. God blesses us and we continue to see Christ’s work within our church and community. I love the summer and will miss it as we move back into school and prepare for fall. However, I look forward to the future because I get to spend it with all of you. What are your dreams, hopes, and/or aspirations? Share them and make them possible. It’s a new day and we are looking for input. What can we do to better serve your spiritual needs? The time is right, as we learn from the commissioning of the disciples in the book of Acts. Acts 1:7-8, 7 Jesus replied, “It isn’t for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has set by his own authority. 8 Rather, you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Brothers and Sisters in Christ, it is time for us to let the Holy Spirit consume us and make a difference in this cold world.

Dear Church Family,
The July board meeting was held on Monday, July 7th at 7:00 p.m. in the music room.
Throughout the meeting the importance of UNITY was expressed by Pastor Shue and myself.
As we transition into a new Church year we are reminded to communicate openly and
honestly. During the meeting newly elected officers, Deacons, Deaconesses, and Elders
were thanked for their willingness to serve in the various capacities. Peggy Boone gave her last
financial report, as she will be stepping down as Church Treasurer after serving 26 years in this
capacity. Please take a moment to thank Mrs. Boone for her many years of service and leadership
to SMCC. Darcie Bumgarner detailed the many activities occurring in the month of August such as,
Camp Caroline weekend, back to school pool party, promotion Sunday and blessing of the
backpack. Tommy Boone read a letter to the church board, thanking them for their patience and
collaboration with the property committee throughout the last year. Tommy also thanked his
committee and several others such as Claude Stroud and Jerry Daughety for a job well done. The
meeting concluded with a heartfelt thank you to all the former committee chairs and a charge was
given to former chairmen in supporting the new committee chairs and members as we transition into
a new Church year.
As previously mentioned in the July newsletter Pastor Shue spoke about this year’s church theme,
UNITY and the importance of becoming closer as a congregation. In becoming closer as a
congregation we will also grow together spiritually. I would like to take a moment and add another
component to the theme of UNITY and thus is to LOVE YOUR PEOPLE! So what does this mean? This
means doing the following things not just at Church but also in our daily lives:
Contribute
Be kind
Be Patient
Be Honest
Encourage People
Apologize
Forgive
Thank People
By following these steps we will begin to have a better understanding of God’s love for each of us
and will be better equipped to love one another despite our differences. 1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us
love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.
I would like to share a book that I am currently reading by Dr. David Jeremiah entitled “GOD LOVES
YOU”. Throughout the book it talks about how God loves us, He always has and He always will. John
3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him
should not perish but have everlasting life.
As we begin the month of August take time to clean out “your closet” and throw away things that
“don’t fit” or that are no longer “suitable” with your life. We should always remember we are on the
same TEAM and are UNITED by our Lord and Savior! Philippines 4:13 I can do all things through Christ,
which strengtheneth me.
In Christian Love,
David S. Moody
