Bake SaleAbigail Kenny

On December 3 and 19, St. Barnabas had a bake sale to raise money for the Talent Show set to take place on January 31. The bake sale had delicious brownies, cookies, and cupcakes and was a success. The idea was brought up by 8th grade representative Lauren Kasten.

She had the idea, and her and Isabel Morrow ran the whole thing. They were helping satisfy the hurney customers. Many other students helped by bringing in treats to sell. It was a great experience and they raised over $200.

Service HoursKelly Walsh

In order to make Confirmation, 8th graders need a certain amount of service hours.

I talked to some 8th graders to see how they balanced getting service hours in addition to homework, Regents classes and sports.

A very popular way students received service hours was by stuffing bulletins, helping out at school events, and peer tutoring.

When students do service hours, not only are they helping themselves, but they are helping out the school and community.

Some other options where service hours are available are: being apart of the girl and boy scouts, helping out in after care and playing with the kids, and helping teachers after school.

ChromebooksKelly Walsh

Over the past 2 years, SBES has advanced greatly in technology. For a long time, the most technology we had was the computer lab, but last year, we started using Chromebooks.

On Chromebooks, we can take tests, write down notes, do our homework, and through Gmail we can communicate with our teachers after school.

Students also use Google Classroom as a digital classroom where the teachers post assignments and we can work collaboratively with both teachers and peers.

ChromebooksContinued from page 2

Thanks to Mr Morano for bringing in the Chromebooks, our school has learned much more about technology and internet safety, which in our day is a skill you must have.

Jade Ortiz, a 7th grade student, said “she likes using the Chromebooks because it helps students develop typing skills which will help them in the future. Chromebooks bring learning to life.”

As you can tell, the Chromebooks are a great thing to have in the school!

Peer TutoringKeino Bryan

In St. Barnabas Elementary School for the first in a long time, a peer tutoring program has started; and many eighth and seventh graders have been taking advantage of it.

The program was implemented to to help the students themselves get a better understanding of what their doing in school. This peer tutoring program is also helping eighth graders get service hours.

I was able to talk to some of the participants in peer tutoring about this programs, and the general sentiment was positive. If you do need help in any subject I urge you to take advantage of this program!

Preview Of The Talent ShowKalif Alleyne

St.Barnabas Elementary School will be bringing back their Annual Talent Show after many years! The show will feature performances ranging from students in grades 6 to 8.

There is already great excitement amongst the 8th graders.

They have great singers performing like Molly Walsh and Brianna Flynn, and even a magic act will be performed by being Ryel Gayle. There is a wide range of talent this year and everyone should be looking forward to it.

Molly Walsh said herself that she was motivated to do this because “I love to sing and perform especially for Barnabas because of how supportive everyone is”.

When Brianna Flynn was asked how she prepares to perform for a large amount of people she responded with “I practice the song beforehand so that I know I have it down and it would make it difficult for a mistake to pop up”.

It’s sure to be a very competitive show and very entertaining to watch.

Breakfast with SantaRyle Gayle

On the 10th of December, St.Barnabas Elementary had a visit from jolly old St. Nick. While visiting the community, he stated that it’s very worthwhile to visit and that the children of Barnabas are special and have a special place in his heart.

Santa Claus then left after having a great time with the people there stating “He’ll see the children again on Christmas Eve”!

Christmas Pageant Ryle Gayle

On the night before Christmas, and all throughout the parish, a play was performed for them to cherish. About 5 years ago the parish decided to have a Christmas Pageant with all of the children welcome to participate.

Everyone helped out with building the set and the props. This year 88 children participated in the play. All the participants worked hard all night and all day with their parents supporting them all the way. The pageant was success.

Beauty And The Beast Molly Walsh

Riverdale Children's Theatre production of “Beauty and the Beast” will be starting rehearsals on January 6th here at St. Barnabas! The eight performances are set for mid April.

The show features students such as Molly Walsh as “Belle”, Lucas Quintana as “Gaston”, Diana Bennett as “Madame De La Grande Bouche”, Matthew Gierer as “Chip”, Kelly Walsh as a “Silly Girl”, Ciara Kerley as the “Enchantress”, Jade Ortiz and Christine Ray as “Town Ladies” and Colleen Beirne in the “Children's Ensemble”.

New Year By: Samara Weather and Ariel Smith

New Year new me That's right sure Tell yourself what you want to believe Try your best with a resolution but you can't be mature But trust me that's not who you want to be

Loving yourself and staying strong Giving all your work your all Knowing your rights because of your wrongs Never giving up or standing on the wall Growing up doing your best and singing songs

Make yourself a better you

Better than you can imagine Don’t let anyone tell you boo Because your better than them so just stayhangin Make it better, care for others but listen to your point of view

You shouldn’t have to suffer

Spread your wings and fly Your worth it all just have to flutter But don't be shy because I'm your guy

The MeteoriteBy: Christopher Sekumar & Jasmine Lall

Once upon a time, there was a meteorite about to destroy the earth. Jeff, a trained martial artist, just moved into a new country, called Home. He fought his way through the 8 gyms and the Elite 5, becoming champion over the entire region. The lab called Jeff and he came immediately. The lab thought Jeff should at least have a chance to see the meteorite about to destroy Earth, because he just became champion. Jeff asked everyone if they knew a way to stop it, but all the scientists said no. Only one scientist, thought to be wacky, said he could get the help of the grand dragon, Royquazo. Jeff set out on his quest for the dragon and went to dragoon tower. Dragoon tower was tall and near the heavens, where the dragon rested. At the top, Royquaso spoke in Jeff’s mind. You have proven your worth and are pure of heart, the dragon said, you may save your home. The dragon appeared as a giant, black, floating serpent. Jeff rode on the dragon’s back and they flew through the meteorite destroying it. Jeff had saved his home.
