ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (AGM)

Notwithstanding the fact that we all have busy working and family schedules, we have civic if not moral obligations to participate in the democratic process of supporting our St. George community’s wellbeing.

I encourage all owners to attend the annual general meeting (AGM) on October 17th and find out about our planned 2012 projects as well as our financial status. It is also very important that you cast your vote for the election of new directors. If personal obligations preclude your attend-ance you should take the necessary steps to have someone represent your wishes by proxy.

Before I conclude, I would like to remind all residents of the St. George that only the freight elevator is allowed for transportation of furniture, construc-tion material, tools or bulky items. Therefore, if you are expecting delivery or services requiring the usage of the freight elevator please inform delivery per-sonnel, contractors and workers that they must use the freight elevator as well as the service entrance located on the northeast side of the building. No tools, construction material or furniture are to be transported through the lobby.

Looking forward to see you at the AGM. President’s corner 1

band, German food and of course the Beer tent! Watch for posters.

As your City Councillor, I have been working with the board of the St. George and other local agencies to address many of the challenges of our area. With the recent nearby increase in condo developments, our commu-nity is faced with new demands that come with a changing demography. Issues with crime and homelessness persist and the City has the difficult job of finding long term solutions.

As part of the Mayor's commitment of $14 million towards housing, a new facility will be opened. This new shelter will house the people who are the most problematic for the present shelters, thus providing a relief to the current system and improving outreach programs.

The coming years will see the redevelopment of Rideau street. This will put a new face on one of Ottawa's most important main streets.

We recognize the importance of creating a comfortable pedestrian space, one that is inviting for residents and tourists alike. We invite feedback on the project and encourage you to share any con-cerns.

Sincerely,

Mathieu Fleury email: [email protected] Tel: 613-580-2482

.Additional Balcony Enclosures Survey by Bob Marcus

In recent years, approximately 41 out of a total of 136 balconies have been enclosed by Condo Owners at the St. George. This has been accomplished in two separate Projects. Despite a longer than planned con-struction schedule and some minor problems (leaks) which have now been solved, a recent partial review has indicated that most Owners who participated are pleased with the results (e.g. more useable year- round space, reduced outside sound levels, easier to sell and increased value) .

During the last few months, several Owners have approached me to ask whether a third Enclosure Project is being considered.

Accordingly, the Board has decided to conduct a survey to determine how many Owners are currently in-terested, so that it may be decided whether an additional Project is feasible at this time. If positive, we can plan to commence Construction early Spring.

If you are interested, a package is available for pickup at the Security Desk which contains the following:

Balcony Project

1. Request for Expression of Interest

2. By-Law No. 11 – relating to Balcony Enclosures

3. Form of Agreement to Enclose Balconies

4. Rough Estimate of Cost

It is emphasized that your replies to this Request will not commit you to proceeding with the enclosing of your balcony at this time (or in fact, any time) but is simply a way to get an ap-proximate estimate of potential quantity for bidding purposes.

If interested please return your completed Expression of Interest to Security no later than Nov. 1st. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me - Bob Marcus

NOW YOU SEE IT...

NOW YOU DON’T...

The annual Christmas Condo Party will be held on Sunday Dec. 4th from 5 to 7 pm. Beverages will

be served, and a 50/50 draw is organized. Party goers are asked to bring their favourite finger food to

share. Come out and meet your neighbours and get in the holiday spirit! Watch for posters.

Byward Market Ambassadors Thank you to the ByWard Market Am-bassadors who were on the streets of the Market from May through Labour Day. Easily recognized in their bright yellow golf-shirts, these goodwill am-bassadors are trained to give direc-tions, tourist info, first aid and assis-tance when needed. They patrolled in pairs 7 days per week from 10am to 6pm Sunday to Wednesday and 10am to 8pm Thursday to Saturday. Their presence gave us, as local residents, an added sense of security.

We sincerely appreciated their efforts.

It seems like everyone and everybody wants to be seen in the ByWard Market. Our historic market was the location for the Zorba Flash Mob, which was held on Sunday, August 8th at 2 p.m. In case you were not able to join the dancers, I have attached the You Tube link for your viewing and dancing pleasure.
