Your Strathclyde MBA degree

While offered in partnership with SMF, responsibility foracademic quality control resides with Strathclyde, and is the same as for the United Kingdom programmes.

Successful MBA students (via international centres) will be awarded the same Strathclyde University MBA as all UK students and will be invited to attend the graduation ceremony held annually at Strathclyde University, Glasgow.

The Partnership

The Unique Partnership between Strathclyde BusinessSchool and Swiss Management Forum (SMF)SMF is a provider of management consultancy and training for the corporate sector in German speaking Europe. SMF has specialised in three main areas: international business development and cross-cultural management, sustainability management, and education programme management.

Coming from the corporate sector, SMF is fully aware of the expectations and requirements of MBA participants both in terms of quality and delivery, and of the capabilities participants need to develop to be able to contribute more to their companies.

How does the partnership work?University of Strathclyde Business School provides all the core materials for the programme and conducts all seminars with a selected team of leading professors from their staff in the UK. The UK staff members are also responsible for subject matter queries and support. All admission and assessment procedures are the responsibility of Strathclyde and success-ful participants will be awarded a University of Strathclyde Master of Business Administration.

SMF is responsible for individual participant support in Switzerland as well as the organisation of seminars, and co-ordination of operations with University of Strathclyde staff in the UK. SMF is also responsible for promoting the MBA in Switzerland.

The Strathclyde MBAThe structure and content of the Strathclyde MBA are fully explained in the main MBA brochure. The following sections show how you can complete the programme in Switzerland.

How to study for your MBAThe Strathclyde MBA incorporates a flexible style of delivery – combining part-time and open learning modes of study in a 180 credit format (90 ECTS).

Most participants continue to work while taking the course over two years. This makes our programme a viable and valuable alternative for you and your company since the programme combines the benefits of learning with immediate practical application within your working environment.

With so many MBA programmes on offer, your choice of school is crucial. An MBA from the University of Strathclyde Business School is the best investment you can make in your career as a professional manager. Strathclyde’s inter-national reputation, combined with its high academic and selection standards, is your guarantee that your MBA will retain its value in the years to come. In addition, the Strath-clyde business faculty is famous for Strategic Management, led by renowned researchers and authors in the field.

The Strathclyde MBA in SwitzerlandThe Strathclyde MBA Programme has been available outside the United Kingdom since 1988. Over 2000 course participants have graduated, and over 1500 are currently studying in their own country.

This success is due to the unique delivery structure devel-oped with the local partner. In Switzerland the programme incorporates elements of part-time and open learning modes of study. It requires an attendance of one to two weekends per month.

The programme has been available in Switzerland since 1996. It is taught through our centre in Zurich which is conveniently located at Zurich Airport.

How does the programme work? The study route to your part-time MBA is flexible with most participants taking between two to two and a half years to complete. Each year is divided into two semesters starting in October and April. Students are provided with a range of text books, course workbooks, core learning materials, and online access to the Strathclyde University library along with physical access to the SMF library.

In terms of teaching, for each subject students attend a two day intensive seminar delivered by academics from Strathclyde University and scheduled over weekends. These seminars are mainly based around the core learning elements of each subject but also contextualised to cover the business environment specific to the region. Additionally, throughout the programme, students attend a range of workshops and simulations to enhance and develop their mana gerial skills and competencies.

How is the course assessed? The course is assessed by a combination of written course-work, in-class presentations and examinations. As far as possible, coursework will be related to your work environment and the examinations are scheduled twice a year prior to the end of each semester. The examinations and assignments are set, marked and validated by the University of Strathclyde academic staff, and are identical to and assessed on the same basis as students undertaking the programme in the UK. Thus the MBA programme offered in Switzerland is the same as the full-time mode in the UK in all aspects except delivery.
