We are proud to release our newsletter for the month October & November
2017. This edition contains all the events from the inter house activities to the
inter school activities with each result, house points and records broken by the
students of Laidlaw Memorial School and Junior College. This edition also
contains the 70th
Independence Day show with schedule and photos. We hope
you enjoy our 3rd Newsletter for the year 2017.

Mumbai report
Day 1: (5:10:2017): We left school around 6:00am. We had our breakfast at Coimbatore and
left for Shornur. We reached the junction at 2:00pm and had our lunch. As the train was
delayed by 2 hours we killed time by playing cricket on the platform. We boarded the train
at 5:00pm. We received our dinner at Mangalore junction and then we had a good night’s
rest in the train.
Day 2: (6:10:2017): We got our breakfast at 8:30am and we spent our time on the train by
playing cards and at Thane junction we received our lunch. We finally reached Lokmanya
Tilak terminal at 5 and had a good time in the evening. From there we boarded a bus and
checked into our hotel and freshened up and then had dinner and a good night’s rest.
Day 3: (7:10:2017): We got up early in the morning and had our breakfast at the hotel and
left to Imagica theme park. We didn’t get a chance to go for the dry rides and go to the
snow park. However we had a great time as we enjoyed all the water rides in the theme
park. We reached our hotel at night.
Day 4: (8:10:2017) : The next morning we left to visit the Gateway of India and the Elephant
caves which also included a 2 hour boat ride after which we had our lunch and went back to
our hotel rooms to refresh ourselves after which we went out for shopping in the evening.
Day 5: (9:10:2017) : We got up excited early in the morning to visit Juhu beach where we
enjoyed playing football and we saw the magnificent sun rise we had our breakfast and left
for the Sidhi Vinayak temple after which we had our lunch and left for the Lokmanya Tilak
terminal. At around 4:00 pm we boarded our train.
Day 6: (10:10:2017): We had our breakfast at Manglore junction and our lunch at Calicut
junction. We spent our time on the train playing cards . We reached Shornur at 5:30pm and
from there boarded our bus back to school. We had our dinner at Coimbatore and reached
school at 2:00 am in the morning.

Cochin trip
In the morning of 5th
October, we left the school by 5:00pm with great excitement.
On the way, we enjoyed ourselves by singing and dancing. We also saw a sunrise on the
way. At 8:30am we stopped at Hotel Annapoorna for breakfast. Then, continuing our
journey, we reached the Diwan Court Hotel at 3pm. Diwan Court is from the prestigious
group of hotels. It is a downtown business hotel offering the finest hospitality. We unloaded
our luggage and went straight for lunch. Then we checked in our rooms and left to see the
Chinese fishing nets. In india , the Chinese fishing nets ( cheena vala) are fixed land
instillations for fishing. After we saw the Chinese nets we headed for the cruise. We saw the
fort Cochin and the Cochin port and then we went to the DJ dance floor and we enjoyed
dancing for over two and a half hours. After that we returned tired to our hotel for dinner
and had a good night’s rest. We woke up the next day waiting to see the new adventure. We
went for breakfast and left for a back water cruise again in Allepy. We enjoyed the sights of
paddy fields, coconut lagoons and pied kingfishers hurtling down to catch the fish. We also
came across small islands; locals engaged in fishing. After that ride we did some roadside
shopping and we went to our hotel, had lunch, and then went to Lulu mall. We shopped for
4 hours and then went back to our hotel. On the third day we left to Mattancherry palace
which is now a museum. This palace is a Portuguese palace popularly known as the Dutch
Palace. It was built and gifted by the Portuguese to the king of Cochin in 1555 after they
plundered a temple nearby. Then we went to St. Francis church, the oldest church built in
1503.Vasco da Gama’s gravestone can still be seen there. We went back to our hotel to have
lunch and then left to Lulu mall. After spending time for few hours in the mall we went back
to our hotel and had dinner. On the 4th
day we were excited to go to Wonderla, the loudest,
craziest and the most amazing part of the town. We enjoyed the land rides, 5D movie and a
lot of thrilling rides after which we went for lunch.We went for more rides and enjoyed
ourselves. We went back to our hotel for dinner and then slept. That day was one of the
best days of our lives. Then the next day we all got up sad as we had to leave for school. We
had an amazing time and an epic adventure with a lot of learning

Goa trip
Day 1: (5:10:2017) : We left school at 5:00 in the morning. We were travelling to Cochin by
bus from where we would board our train to Goa. We had our lunch at the railway station
and boarded our train at 5:00pm in the evening. We had our dinner on the train and we
reached Goa early next morning.
Day 2: (6:10:17) : On arriving at Goa we checked into our hotel at 8:00 in the morning
after which we got ready and left for the beach . We had our lunch at the beach after that
we returned to our hotel .

Day 3: (7:10:2017) :We visited the Aguada fort after which we visited the beautiful
Calangute beach . We did some road side shopping and then returned back to our hotel.
Later that evening we got dressed up for the cruise. It was amazing and we had fun.The
view was amazing. We also danced for sometime.

Day 4: (8:10:2017) : We visited the well know St. Francis Xavier church. We learnt a lot of
things there . We went back to Anjuna beach after lunch. We saw a lot of crabs and took
many pictures.
Day 5: (9:10:2017) : We got up late And enjoyed our leisure time at the hotel till lunch. After that we checked out and headed for the Mall de Goa . We spent approximately 4 hours
there and then we returned to the railway station for our journey back to school.
Day 6: (10:10:2017) : We reached school at around 10:00pm .

Hyderabad Trip :
On 4- 10-2017 We were very excited to go for the trip to Hyderbad . After dinner Mr. Vasu
distributed our money, id cards and bags . Everyone were gicen 2000 rs each for the journey. We
were very excited because it was our first trip in an arranged coach. At 10:00pm our van arrived in
front of our cottage. We got into our van and left for Coimbatore at 11:00pm. We kept ourselves
entertained by listening to songs on the way to Coimbatore. We reached Coimbatore railway station
at 2:00am. We were waiting for the train for about two hours on the platform. At 4:00am our train.
The coaches allotted for us were A1 B1 & B2. We got into our coaches within 5 minutes as the train
stood only for 5 minutes in the junction we 9th
std occupied the B1. As it was already morning we
did not sleep and we were talking till sun rise. We enjoyed our travel. We reached Kacheguda
station, Hyderabad 6th
morning at 3:30am we boarded the coach to transfer to the Amritha Castle
hotel to check in since our check in time was 12 noon we couldn’t get our rooms. Our staff asked for
atleast five rooms to refresh. Then we had our breakfast then we left to Mecca Masjid. From there
we walked to Charminar and from Charminar we went to the Sudha car museum the first and only
hand made car museum in the world. Then we had our lunch and then left to Golconda Fort. Then
we left back to our hotel and had our dinner there.
The next day we visited Ramoji Flim industry.We left the film industry in the evening and went back to the hotel where we had our dinner.
The next morning after breakfast we left for Salarjung museum. After this we went to the Hussain
Sagar lake. After that we went to the MPM mall to do some shopping. We went around the mall and
found nothing good or interesting there at 7:30 we left back to the hotel.
The next day we boarded our train back to school and we reached Coimbatore at 7:00am and we reached school at 1:30pm for our lunch.

Inter-school debate:
The inter-school debate for the year 2017 was held at The laidlaw Memorial school an d junior
college on 27th
October. The judges were Dr senthilnathan, Sangeeta Ray and Anandi.
The participating schools:
1. Laidlaw Memorial School 2. Stanes Higher Secondary School 3. Riverside Public School 4. International Community School 5. Holy Innocents School 6. Wood Side Public School 7. St.Hildas School
The topic for the debate was “Technology destroys the quality of human interaction.” Each
school came up with two speakers, one speaking for the topic and the other speaking
against the same.
Results:
The Ladilaw Memorial School won the overall competition and also the best speaker award which was won by Adithya Prasad.

The inter- school quiz for the year 2017 was held at Laidlaw Memorial school on the

of October. Six schools qualified for the main round of the quiz.

The quiz comprised of 10 rounds where each correct answer was awarded 10 points and
no pass questions. There was a picture question which was open to all participating teams
for which if answered correctly 10 bonus points were awarded.
Results:
Holy Innocent School placed first followed by St.Josephs College.

INTERACT CLUB EYE FOUNDATION CAMPAIGNE
The Interact Club had organised an eye check up for all the students and staff and their
family members on 25th
October. We joined hands with the Eye Foundation Ooty and our
eyes were checked by specialized ophthalmologists. The students who required eye care were given a prescription for a free medical check up in Ooty.
The eye check up was not only for the students but also for the staff and the sub staff of the
school. The Eye Foundation has given a clear vision to the Georgians under the able
guidance of the Interact Club members. It was a grand success.

INTER-SCHOOL QUIZ
The Inter-school quiz was held by Pasteur Institute Coonoor. The students of
the Laidlaw Memorial School and Junior College came 2nd
overall. The students who took part were Keerthana.M & Muaz Mohammad.
INTER-SCHOOL SINGING
The students of The Laidlaw Memorial School and Junior college took part in the Inter-
school singing competition which was held in KPS. They secured the first place for best
individual singer who was Nikita Kay Santy.
INTER-SCHOOL DRAMATICS
The Inter-school dramatics that was held in St.Hildas
School Ooty on 31st
of October. The students of The
Laidlaw Memorial School took part with their own
play written by Andrew Roland Francis called ‘Topsy
Turvy : a Wedding Story’ and stood second out of the
10 schools that had participated, our school has also
got the best supporting & best actor awards both won
by Nazneen Sameer & Andrew Roland Francis
respectively.
INTER-SCHOOL KARATE
THE 21ST
Nilgiris district karate tournament was held on 25th
and 26th
of NOV a BPS,
Wellington. The students of The Laidlaw Memorial School and Junior College won gold and silver.
INTER-SCHOOL TENNIS
The inter-school tennis was held in Lawrence Lovedale. The Laidlaw Memorial School and
Junior College won the Under-19 category and also won the best player award awarded to
Armaan Mathews.
