Some of you will remember that four years ago Fr. Jeff Lewis worked hard at starting a Youth Group here in our Cathedral Parish. It was a great success. I am very pleased that the fruit of his vision and dedication continue today as we are able to maintain a vibrant youth ministry program in our parish.
Our young people have taken the name “Grotto Youth Group” and they meet each Sunday evening in their own youth room on the second floor of O’Connor Hall. The room is complete with a small kitchen for snacks and refreshments, beat up couches, and bright green paint which they applied themselves (I won’t be letting them choose the paint color for the rectory!). Their meeting times are complete with ice-breakers, teachings on the Catholic Faith, and prayer.
Last Sunday evening I spoke to our Grotto Youth Group about the Church’s teaching regarding the sanctity of all human life as the foundation for our stance against abortion, euthanasia, assisted suicide, etc. I was impressed with their serious interest and dedication to the truth.
I am grateful to Rich & Delia Breedlove who serve as our youth coordinators as well as Fr. Jason Hiner who assists with the meetings on a regular basis. We can be very grateful to have such competent leaders for our young people.
Asking for the prayers of Our Lady of Lourdes, I remain, Sincerely yours in Christ,
Rev. Darrin Connall Rector

Lenten Education Series Rev. Patrick Baraza is continuing his five part presentation on Islam, with the second installment occurring Friday, March 13th. After Stations of the Cross, please make your way down to the dining room for a bowl of soup as you attend his talk entitled: “Understanding Islam: Muslims Are Our Neighbors”.
“You shall not covet” is perhaps a difficult commandment to keep in our consumer-oriented society. But as Christian stewards, we know that we are the recipients and caretakers of God’s many gifts. May this understanding that all is gift help us be less resentful of the gifts of others.

Scriptural Reflection
March 8, 2015 – Third Sunday of Lent Ex 20: 1-17; Ps 19: 8-11; 1 Cor 1: 22-25; Jn 2: 13-25
The Ten Commandments are our moral code given directly to us from God. Our Catholic beliefs, morals, and practices often come under attack from the secular society, but these clearly written morals are the anchor on which much of our behavior should be based.
In fact, according to the noted author and philosopher C. S. Lewis, “There is a universal morality among all humankind. These principles represented in the Ten Commandments are implanted in the hearts and minds of all women and men.” That would seem to make it simple, but as we all know, nothing is ever simple.
Nevertheless, during our Lenten preparations for Easter it is an excellent time for us to evaluate how we are doing in relation to these basic Commandments from God. Our sense of stewardship tells us that we are in need of God’s guidance and instructions. Too often in our society we seem to rely upon what our “personal” feelings may be in relation to morals and how we live them out. When questioned about the Commandments, Jesus responded that the two most important were to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind,” as well as “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Our problem may be that we do not even fulfill those two Commandments, let alone the Ten Commandments. That should be our goal always, not just during Lent.
