Nearly 450 children have registered for the 2019 Vacation Bible School, “To Mars and Beyond,” at PulaskI Heights United Methodist Church which will take place from July 21-25.

“To Mars and Beyond” will help kids discover the wonders of God’s universe. They’ll become Voyagers on a journey through space, exploring where God’s power can take them. Beginning each morning in Wesley Hall-an outpost on Mars-they’ll lift off to distant planets on special missions to collect power sources. School will be back in session before we know it! This year, while you are doing your back-to-school shopping, please think of those in need at our partner school, Wakefield Elementary in Little Rock.

The “Give a Kid a Chance” program provides backpacks, school supplies, and uniforms for nearly 400 children who would not otherwise receive these essential items. In addition to making a donation, volunteers are needed each summer to order, unload, and sort the supplies.

With a donation of $35, PHUMC provides a backpack, school supplies, and a uniform for a student. If you are interested in helping with our mission, please make your check payable to PHUMC with “GAKAC” on the memo line. You may drop it off at PHUMC, or mail it to:

4823 Woodlawn Drive, Little Rock, AR 72205.

For more information, contact Rev. Betsy Singleton Snyder at (501) 978-0530.

Team phumc Helps Family Rebuild Home

Last week, Team PHUMC worked on a house in Mayflower devastated by recent flooding on the Arkansas River. The family had almost 3 feet of water inside, completely destroying everything on the main level of the house. They truly have been through a nightmare scenario the past month. Their home was on the market to be sold earlier this year and through an unfortunate circumstance, the flood insurance coverage lapsed.

Then, just a few weeks ago, the couple’s son whose house was also destroyed in the flood, got in a car accident that has left him paralyzed. This family has been through so much and we are very grateful that members of our church were able to give back.

Team PHUMC’s inaugural deployment was July 1-3, 2019. Ten members participated during that time. Working together, they replaced 100% of the insulation and 90 plus % of the sheetrock that had been damaged in order to have the home ready for the family to move back in here in a couple of weeks. The family is trying to make sure everything is handicap accessible for their son and his family to move in. While most homes on their street are working on a 6 month timeline to be rebuilt, they only have a few weeks in order to make it happen.

Thank you to all the volunteers on #TeamPHUMC who have been working hard in this summer heat!
