The T r in i ty T id ing s To share the love of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, by loving one another,
loving our community, and putting our faith into action.
W e have two EfM groups starting in September. EfM
is a four-year curriculum developed by the School of Theology at Sewanee for those who might want to read deeper into God’s word. EfM helps lay persons discover and exercise their varied gifts for ministry in the places where they live and work. Each group meets weekly through the school year. Those of you who have completed all four years are welcome to pick back up in the new curriculum and choose any year you would like to read. The daytime group will meet Sundays, 1-3 p.m. The evening group will meet Mondays, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuition is $375. Register by August 1 so that materials can be sent to us in time. If you have any questions, call 256-810-9897. -- Deacon Catherine
Register now! Groups start in September
Since its founding in 1975, this
international program has
assisted more than 80,000 participants
in discovering and nurturing
their call to Christian service.

Got an hour every six weeks or so? Do you like helping others? Can you drive or ride along? We need you! Meals on Wheels delivers meals to homebound individuals Monday-Friday, and our Trinity team serves the North Florence area every six weeks. As a volunteer, you and a buddy pick up the meals and a list with directions and deliver with a smile. This is quite possibly the quickest and easiest volunteer job at Trinity! You may be the only other person some of these people see that day. Deliver nourishment of the body and soul -- it will feed yours as well. Contact Judith Humphries, Amy Darby, or Beth Keyse for more information. Thank you!

T hanks in part to a continuing
education stipend, I was able
to attend the Sacred Music
Intensive Workshop at the Jacobs
School of Music, Indiana
University, Bloomington, Indiana,
June 4-10.
I worked primarily with Walter
Huff, IU faculty director of choral
programs. There were several
workshops each day around issues
related to choral conducting.
Workshop participants also
rehearsed as a choir, under the
MUSIC NOTES
direction of Dr. Huff, each day.
Organ lessons and workshops with
the IU faculty were also available.
The closing concert on Friday night
included choral works and organ
selections performed by the
workshop attendees.
This was truly an “Intensive” week
of study. I greatly appreciate the
contribution from Trinity Church,
which helped me to participate in
this continuing education event.

director

Monday Movie Series
‘What would we do without Bruce?’
Children’s Summer Series
With 80-plus children signed up for Children’s Summer Series, there are a lot of hungry mouths to feed come lunch time. But, luckily for Trinity, Bruce Cherry has prepared for just such occasions. He plans his menu. He purchases what he needs. Come Monday morning, he shows up early to get the fruits and vegetables rinsed and chopped and the meat sauce simmering. Then, he cleans all the prep areas so that he can set up serving stations to dish out plates and bowls of appetizing edibles to the children, volunteers, and staff who eagerly await their turn to sample what Bruce has prepared for them. Today it’s spaghetti. “Each Monday comes with a variety of challenges, but one thing I don’t have to worry about is how we’re
going to feed however many kids we have that day,” says Jessie Stracener, Children’s Ministry Coordinator and leader of the Summer Series program, which is in its fourth year. “Every summer, Bruce comes in, asks me how many we have that day, and quietly goes about preparing a wonderful meal
that I can proudly tell parents about. Every week kids want seconds, and sometimes even thirds.” However, as enthusiastic and capable as Bruce is, he could always use a little help from his Trinity friends. If you would like to share in this rewarding ministry, please let Jessie know!
