Genesis, took time to stop and rest after the task of creation. And if God needs this, if Jesus took time to rest in the garden and away from the crowds on the mountain, well, so do we. I see now just how close to burnout I was and how badly I needed this gracious gift of sabbatical to which I can only say Thank you! Even pastors can get so caught up in life that they forget to take the time to rest. So thank you . . . and take time to smell the roses!
Time to rest It’s good to be back! Linda and I (with our two dogs) travelled about 11,000 miles and visited many places. This would be exhausting for some I am sure but it was rejuvenating for us. It was good to revisit our past and to make some new experiences together. It was good to be able to sleep in for many of those days and to travel at a slower pace. It was good to see friends and family, to include people we have not seen for years. And it was good to be able to stop and think, to reflect and to ponder. To take time to stop and “smell the roses” is more than an ad campaign or an old slogan. The idea behind it is Biblical. Even God, in

Trinity offers great opportunities to make music with a wonderful choir that sings at the 9:00am service, a bell choir that plays at either or both services and a praise team that consistently puts out powerful worship music week after week.
Music at Trinity is a wonderful opportunity to experience the power of prayer in a whole new, very unique, way. Do yourself a life long favor and try one of these wonderful ensembles. Beginning September 2nd, Wednesdays: 5:30—Bell Choir, 6:30—Praise Band, 7:30—Trinity Choir.
If you have any questions please contact me. We welcome everyone and we would love to see you at the next rehearsal.

Our Response to God through July 2015
Now that summer vacation has come to an end and the school year is beginning we need to focus on sports and playground safety. The facts… Close to 4 million children-14 years and younger suffer from sports and recreation related injuries each year. Most organized sports related injuries occur during practice instead of games, instruct your child to take the same safety precautions and wear same protective equipment during practice as they do during games. About 45-48% of playground injuries are severe, including loss of teeth, fractures, internal injuries, concussions, dislocations and entrapments that require resulting amputation.
Children & Safety
As a parent you should inquire on the amount of supervision that is provided at recess and sporting practices. During your family physical activity times incorporate proper stretching and warm-up and encourage your child to not skip this in group events; practices, games. First aid for dental emergencies…Orthodontic emergencies: braces and retainers, for protruding wire or broken appliance…protect tongue or cheek with gauze or cotton ball, place broken off piece of appliance in clean container and contact dentist or orthodontist for immediate assessment and care. For a
knocked out tooth: Immediately attempt to locate the tooth, handle the tooth by the top (crown) not the root portion, gently rinse tooth with clear water-Do not rub or scrub tooth. Place the tooth in a cup of milk, or if available a tooth preserver solution (available in first aid kit sections) or if not available in cup cool water. Time is a critical factor in saving the tooth. Remember as a parent, always demonstrate Safe practices at home and during family activities. Blessings, Mary Jane Dimmer, RN/Parish nurse

October 8th, 2015—Fall Discipleship Gathering at St. John’s Rock Island. 6:15—8:45 p.m. Bishop Wollersheim has announced that he will retire and not stand for re-election as Bishop of the Northern Illinois Synod at the end of his term in 2016. Because of this major transition in the life of the Synod, this fall’s Discipleship Gatherings will be an opportunity for the members of the Synod to begin to think about the upcoming Bishop election and the nature of Church Leadership in this time.
At the gatherings, those present will have the opportunity to worship together and pray about this process; learn the actual duties of a Bishop of the Northern Illinois Synod; hear from Bishop Wollersheim the joys and challenges that he has experienced; learn how the Bishop election will be conducted; and have the opportunity to reflect together on the qualities and skills that each individual believes to be important in the next Bishop.
October 15th, 2015—Justin Tigerman is ordained at Trinity. Time to be announced.

As a member of the library team I’m always sad to find books that have never been in circulation. So I checked out two such devotional books out of curiosity. MAKE YOUR DAY COUNT (242 Rob)Devotion for Women by Lindsay Roberts and friends contains some devotions which the cover states are life lessons, some ideas for saving time and some easy recipes. I found the life lessons to be reminders although nothing new or thought provoking. The time saving tips and recipes also were not new but perhaps a young homemaker would find them valuable.

Recently an article I read lifted up the concept of simplicity. The ideas made sense. Simplicity With Words: Sharing our faith does not need to have theological proof or be surrounded with doctrine. Simply telling what a relationship with Christ means to you .is the best witness. Simplicity with money and possessions: The basic needs of life are very simple. The Good Shepherd provides what we need and much more. How much could we give away and still have plenty if we trusted in his provision. Simplicity in prayer: There is nothing wrong with long prayers especially when there are so many situations we want to life up to God. But so many times during the day we are blessed with a beauty in nature, the smile from a friend or a helping hand that “Thank You Lord would suffice. And when things are really tough it’s more than enough to just cry out “Help me Lord.” He knows all the rest. .

THE WAY TO LOVE (643 DeM) contains the last meditations of Anthony De Mello. I was not familiar with DeMello but he was a Jesuit priest in India. He is the author of several other books but these meditations were written before his untimely death in 1987. There is a scripture passage at the beginning of each chapter but the thoughts were a little confusing to me. His basic premise is that what keep us from loving is our attachments. I would welcome another reader to check out this book and give me their take.
