  • St. Jude Parish a Stewardship Community PASTOR’S POTPOURRI –MANY ARE CALLED BUT

    FEW ARE CHOSEN

Heaven is beyond our imagining. The Lord Jesus has told us that eye has not seen nor has ear heard nor has it even entered into our imaginations what God has prepared for those who love Him. Jesus uses different examples to help us understand something of heaven…it will be like a great feast where everyone is filled with joy, like the wedding feast described in today’s Gospel. But then there comes a time when someone comes into the feast with a wedding garment. The King says to throw him outside where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth. What this means in one sense is that eternal happiness is not to be taken for granted. We have to respond to the Lord’s invitation by the way we live. So that we hear at the end of the passage, “many are called but few are chosen.” Let us act like those who are bound to heaven and are doing everything we can to make sure we are pleasing the Lord.

    —Fr. Bob

Respect Life: Attention Saint Jude parishioners! Colorado is one of only 7 states that allows abortion for any reason up until birth with no restrictions! Help end late term abortion in Colorado by voting YES on Prop 115 on Nov. 3rd. Voting yes will end this barbar-ic practice of abortion after 22 weeks in Colorado. At 22 weeks, pre-born babies can smile, recognize their mother's voice, suck their thumbs and also FEEL PAIN. Please fulfill your obligation to stand for life from conception to natural death.

I would like to thank everyone for you care, concerns, and prayers for my husband, Horace at the time of his passing on August 12. I appreciate all of the cards that l received, and for all of the warm thoughts for me also. Blessings to all of you.

    Sincerely, Joyce Myers

We are asked by the Archdiocese of Denver to take up col-lections throughout the year. This month St. Jude will con-tinue our tithe as a Stewardship Parish and recognized:

World Mission Sunday on October 18. Pope Francis invites us to help the mission diocese in Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe, where priests, religious and lay leaders proclaim the Gospel, build the Church, and serve the poor. Please keep the Mis-sion in your prayers.

    Holiday Assistance Program

Due to the Covid-19 situation, the Christian Service Committee will not be able to conduct “business as usual” with our food boxes and “Adopt-A-Family” gift program this year. We realize that the need for assistance is greater than ever, and our parishioners have always been very generous in helping those less fortunate.

This year we will be providing food cards or gift cards for Thanksgiving/Christmas to families who come to us for help.

We ask for all parishioners who would like to help with this program to do so in one of the following ways:

    • Mail contribution directly to St. Jude (9405 W. Florida Ave., Lakewood, CO 80232) with a note ear-marking the amount directed to the 2020 Holiday Assistance Program.

    • Designate an amount with eGiving through Faith Direct using the Food/Holiday Assistance Tab at faith.direct/CO846.

We would appreciate it if any contributions could be sent in by November 8th to allow us sufficient time to purchase the necessary gift cards for families in need.

We thank you, in advance, for your generosity. --Christian Services

Due to the Covid-19 situation, Christian Services has modified its Thanksgiving and Christmas program this year. Families in need can begin calling in for help on October 12th.

To minimize personal contact, we will not be providing box-es of food for Thanksgiving and Christmas, and no Christ-mas gifts will be made available, as in the past. However, we would still like to help. To the extent that we have funds available from our parishioners, we will mail food/gift cards to families requesting help. (We do not know at the present time how much this will be.) If you would still like to receive assistance from Christian Services, please provide the follow-ing information below by calling the office Mon-Fri during business hours at 303-988-6435.

Family name, mailing address, zip code and phone number. Number of adults and children in the family.

One of our parishioners will contact you to verify the address before mailing any gift cards.
