OLQP MISSION STATEMENT Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church is dedi-cated to witnessing the teachings of Jesus Christ, especially the Gospel of Saint Matthew, Chapter 25:31-46. Our mission is to nurture the spirit and to encourage the potential of those we serve through liturgical celebration, educational endeavors and social ministries. The parish will continue to identi-fy with its origin as a Black parish. As a multi-ethnic congregation we will seek to promote racial har-mony and social justice. While our primary focus is within the immediate community, we will also work to provide for the well-being of the down-trodden everywhere. In this we strive for our par-ish community to be a caring, sharing, and loving family.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (RCIA) What difference can God make in my life? The RCIA is a gradual process of formation for those seeking a deeper relationship with God and a better understanding of the Catholic faith. Whether you are just beginning your faith journey, are already baptized in another Christian tradition and want to explore Catholicism, or are seeking sacramental preparation, RCIA is the pathway. Due to COVID-19 re-strictions, we will begin meeting virtually using Zoom. The journey begins with a “no-strings” inquiry session on Thurs-day, October 22, at 7pm. Join us! For further information, contact Kevin and Alice Curtin at [email protected] or 703-461-3082.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD (CLW)
We will be starting CLW sessions through zoom starting Sep-
tember 13 until we are able to return to celebrate in person.
Sessions will take place during the Sunday 10:00am Mass
in English and the 2:00pm Mass in Spanish. Families can
find the 2020 CLW calendars with the dates of the online
sessions as well as the Zoom link to join the session on the
Parish’s website.
RELAUNCH OF THE FOOD SECURITY TEAM -- As our
busy food pantry serves more than 550 families a week and
the Administration proposes further food program budget
cuts, we are looking to relaunch the food security team. The
team has been on hiatus after our long-term lead retired
and moved out of the area. If you are interested in joining
us, please send an email to both [email protected]
and [email protected].
FOOD PANTRY NEEDS YOUR HELP -- Are you availa-
ble to help pick up large food orders at local markets and at
the Capital Area Food Bank? Please consider volunteering
once per month or more. Please consider helping this vital
part of our ministry. Questions/interest, contact Sally Diaz-
Wells at [email protected] or 703/979-5580
REGISTER FOR ENGLISH, CITIZENSHIP OR
GED CLASSES ONLINE! Registration is now open! Catholic Charities of the Diocese

¡Únase a nosotros!
[email protected] y [email protected].

CELEBRATE THE SEASON OF CREATION From Sept 1-Oct 4 each year, the Christian community
around the world celebrates the Season of Creation by pray-
ing and acting together to protect our common home,
Mother Earth.
Catholics unite with others in the Christian family to protect
all creatures in God's beautifully complex web of crea-
tion. This is a time to celebrate the abundance of life and to
refocus our efforts to protect creation in all its glory.
Members of the parish Integrity of Creation Team have pre-
pared articles that explore the wonder and complexity of
God's creation and challenge us to take actions to enhance
and protect God's gift. These articles will appear weekly in
the bulletin during the month of September.
Pope Francis urges us to recognize our connectedness with
the natural world when he said, "Nature cannot be regarded
as something separate from ourselves or as a mere setting
in which we live. We are part of nature, included in it and
thus in constant interaction with it." (Laudato Si 139) Let us
celebrate, give thanks and protect this wondrous gift of cre-
ation.
The BUILDING FOREVER FAMILIES ministry for adop-
tive/foster families and children who have been orphaned will hold its monthly gathering on Sunday, September 6 via ZOOM at 12:30 pm. All are welcome. Please contact Rebec-ca Carpenter at [email protected] and Rebec-ca will send you the link by September 6.
RESPECT LIFE CONFERENCE - Join us on Saturday,
September 12, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Annandale for an assessment of current and potential threats to human life and dignity and suggestions for effective practical grass-roots response. Mass will be offered in the church at 8am. The program will be held in the gymnasium from 8:45am -12:30pm. Bishop Michael Burbidge will offer opening prayer and comments before the program. Register at arlingtondi-ocese.org/RLC. Cost is $10. MOTHER OF MERCY FREE MEDICAL CLINIC VOL-UNTEERS NEEDED! Please help Catholic Charities serve
the poor by volunteering--on site or remotely from home--with the Mother of Mercy Free Medical Clinics. Located in Manassas and Woodbridge, the clinics provide free, quality healthcare to low income individuals who are uninsured or under-insured. Demand for clinic services has skyrocketed, and we are in desperate need of medical and non- medical volunteers. Most of the volunteering can be done virtually, from the safety and convenience of home. On site opportu-nities exist as well. Volunteers must be willing to make a regular, ongoing commitment. Most positions are 3-4 hour shifts, affording great flexibility. To signup, please visit: https://volunteer.ccda.net
¡LA CLÍNICA MÉDICA GRATUITA MOTHER OF MERCY NECESITA VOLUNTARIOS!

SCHOOL NEWS FROM MEDOR Schools throughout Haiti closed in mid-March because of the pandemic. Since most children and teachers there do not have access to a computer or to reliable internet, on-line learning was not an option. Each of the schools in St. Joseph parish reopened several weeks ago, with the goal of completing the 2019/2020 school year by the end of October and starting the 2020/2021 school year shortly thereafter. Père Frantz has installed hand-washing stations at each school; teachers and students are encouraged to wash their hands before class each morning and other times during the day. They are also trying to remain socially distant in the classrooms. Père Frantz, pastor of St. Jo-seph parish, the teachers, and others in the community are doing everything they can to help protect each oth-er from the virus.
Please pray for our Medor family.
MATTHEW 25, NO MORE DONATIONS AT THIS TIME -- As always, your generosity shows no bounds. We are
literally overwhelmed with new donations and cannot accept anymore. The bins will be closed after this weekend in the hopes of getting a handle on the number of items donated in such a short time. We will reopen the bins for Winter clothing beginning on Saturday, September 19th. We will continue to have Saturday collection for winter clothing from that date on. Thank you for your continued support of this ministry!

Register even if you cannot attend and the Office of Marriage, Family and Respect Life will send you a certificate commemorating your 25 or 50 years of marriage.
75TH ANNIVERSARY PARISH
DIRECTORY UPDATE We continue working with LifeTouch to publish the parish directory. Even though LifeTouch has closed their publica-tion operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been able to finalize the parish directory and put it into the queue for printing. While there is currently no estimate from LifeTouch regarding when their operations will reo-pen, once they do, the directory will be printed and deliv-ered. We appreciate your patience and understanding dur-ing this pandemic crisis. Please contact Patrick Julius at pat-
[email protected] if you have any questions.

MASS SIGNUP Choose your own date and time!
You now have the option of choosing the date and time you would like to attend public Mass. You also have the option of cancelling or rescheduling should something come up. Sign up now to attend one of the August public weekend Masses or call the parish office to have a staff member sign you up, 703-979-5580. We are now using a ticketing program (tickets are free) that allows for greater user flexibility for you and much less management by the parish office. When a Mass option is full, it will be greyed-out. Access this new signup process on the parish homepage: www.olqpva.org (Click on the green button “Mass Sign-ups” or in Spanish “Registro para la Misa”.)
YOUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT KEEPS US GOING! During these uncertain times, we are so grateful to know
we can rely on your generosity. Whether you use Faith
Direct eGiving, an online bill pay service or drop by the
parish office with your contribution, knowing we can
count on you makes all the difference. Offertory Collec-
tion is our main source of funding for payroll, utilities,
trash collection, phone and internet services, office
equipment expenses, liturgical and cleaning supplies…the
expenses continue even with new strategies that ensure
a safe environment for community and church. Thank
you for giving!
eGiving is convenient, secure and easy to setup with a
checking account or credit card. Visit
www.faithdirect.net and use our parish code: VA271.
We recognize that you too are impacted by this economic
and health crisis, and that you too are experiencing the
loss of meeting up with church family and ministry
friends. Please know that we are here to offer support
and help. Let us know: [email protected],

Fr. Tim and Fr. Martin.

Martin.

“ED TALKS” SERIES IS COMING TO ZOOM
The first talk will be held on Monday, September 14, at
7pm via zoom. The log in code will be placed in the bulle-
tin, our website and on our Facebook page. Our First
speaker is J. Gerald Herbert, a past Campaign Legal Center
and DOJ's Civil Rights Division Attorney. He will talk about
voting history and issues that may come up with this elec-
tion. We have asked another speaker to talk about voter
suppression from the NAACP.
HAVE YOU SEEN WWW.FATHERHEALY.COM?
A longtime OLQP parishioner created this website making
our former pastor’s homilies available on the web. Each
week a homily is posted that corresponds to the Sunday
readings. If you’re a longtime parishioner or know some-
one who was, do you have any tapes of Fr. Healy (pastor
from 1983-1995) stowed away somewhere. Email Frank
Finamore at [email protected] so that he can digitize
your tape and add it to the online collection!
HAM = Hunger Action Month
September is Hunger Action Month!
Please review the calendar and follow it each day to find
things that will help diminish hunger in our area and global-

help fight hunger, learn ways to diminish food waste and
even learn some ways to go meatless.

Remember, hunger does not end with the month
Millions of families are facing hunger– many for
the first time due to the coronavirus pandemic.
This Hunger Action month, join us in thanking our
hardworking food bank staff and volunteers serv-
ing on the frontlines every day to help feed
America.
In 2008, Feeding America began
Hunger Action Month (HAM) to
start a nationwide push to get
citizens involved with the hunger
crisis throughout the country.
PRAYER FOR THE
SEASON OF CREATION
Creator of life,
the Earth is full of Your creatures,
and by Your wisdom You made them all.
At Your word, the Earth brought forth
plants yielding seed of every kind
and trees bearing fruit,
the waters teemed
with swarms of living creatures,
and the world was filled
with every kind of winged bird,
walking animal,
and creatures that creep upon the ground.
During this Season of Creation,
open our eyes to see the precious diversity
that is all around us.
Enlighten our minds to appreciate
the delicate balance maintained
by each creature.
Inspire us to conserve the precious
habitats that nurture this web of life.
Through the changing seasons,
your Spirit renews the cycles of life.
We pray in the name of Jesus Christ.
Amen.
