Storms. As the nation cleans up after Harvey and prepares for Irma (with another one possibly coming behind), it seems as though life is full of storms. And it is. Whether the storms be literal or figurative, non of us are immune to them. Non of us are out of danger, whether we live in a flood zone or not. The storms of life will come. And they do.

Like damaging wind and cresting rivers, the storms of life can be heard to bear. They can reek havoc and cause destruction. They can take the things we love and cherish away from us, and leave us heartbroken. They can even cause loss of life.

But even when storms are brutal, and, like Harvey, last way too long, they never last forever. There is always an end to the storm.

There are also always positive signs along the way==signs of God’s grace, of Christ’s love and care.

Hurricane Harvey gave us many such signs. From the countless ordinary people turned heroes who set off in their boats to rescue strangers, to the fleet of monster truck owners who drove into Houston high and dry to help, to the weather reporters who turned their own work into helping others, to the furniture stores that opened their doors to shelter evacuees, God’s grace was apparent in the workings of those who answered the call of the suffering. They knew they were not alone.

We are also not alone. There are always people who care. God, and God’s people, are here to help us get through every storm.

This autumn, my prayer for you, and for our church, is that storms of life be few. But if they come, remember—We are never alone.

As the prophet Isaiah wrote, “When you go through the waters, I will be with you” (Isaiah 43:2). God is with us in every storm. Let us also be with each other. Together, we can weather whatever comes our way.

Peace,

Pastor Amanda

2017 CHILDREN’S DAY This year was another huge success for Children’s Day!

A very special “Thank You” to everyone who worked on our float and house deco-

ration as well as participating in the parade. Participation and hard work are what

has continued to make Mount Tabor unique for 148 years!

NEWS AROUND THE CHURCH

The Dickerson Family has just returned from Guatemala completing a mission (for this

year) that is very dear to all of them. They volunteer a week each summer to join From

Houses to Homes, to help build homes for families with minimal-to-nonexistent hous-

ing.

They spend a year fundraising and take vacation time from their jobs to assist those less

fortunate. This is a wonderful family mission! We’re glad you are all home safely!

While they were there, Brian Lowe proposed

to Taylor Dickerson near the top of a

volcano!

Congratulations and all the best to both of

you!

WELCOME

The United Methodist Church at Mount Tabor is a community of faith-filled friends who seek to grow closer to God through the ministry of Jesus Christ and by the guidance of the

Holy Spirit. We celebrate the history of Mount Tabor, and look with hope toward the future. Everyone is welcome here; everyone is cherished here; for everyone is a child of God. All are welcome to participate with us in our journey of faith, regardless of back-

ground, theological stance, or personal characteristics. We rejoice in God creating us to be a diverse family; and we strive to follow the Spirit’s leading as one, while maintaining and upholding our individuality. Because of the current official stance of The United Methodist

Church, we feel it is important to state a welcome to those of all sexual orientations and gender identities—You are welcome here.

God loves you just the way you are; and so do we.
