Rais ing Money for Our Runners
Every Friday at lunch there has been a fundraising event raising money for the Spinifex Emu running team.
Delicious food items were priced well at only $2! Cupcakes, pancakes, brownies and more were sold over the few weeks
that the sale was happening. Different sweets were made each week by differ-ent teachers.
Come and support the Spinifex running team by buying a sweet this week.

The Final Six
by Alexander Monir
Set in the near future,
this acon-packed YA
novel — already op-
oned by Sony Pictures
— will take readers out
of this world and on a
quest to become one
of six teens sent on a
mission to Jupiter’s
moon. This is the next
must-read for fans of
Illuminae and The Mar-
an.
When Leo and Naomi
are dra*ed, along with
twenty-two of the
world’s brightest teen-
agers, into the Interna-

Camp (ISTC), their lives
are forever changed.
Overnight, they be-
come global celebries
in contenon for one
of the six slots to travel
to Europa — Jupiter’s
moon — and establish
a new colony, leaving
their planet forever.
With Earth irreparably
damaged, the future of
the human race rests
on their shoulders.
For Leo, an Italian
championship swim-
mer, this kind of pur-
pose is a reason to go
on a*er losing his fami-
ly. But Naomi, an Irani-
an-American science
genius, is suspicious of
the ISTC and the fact
that a similar mission
failed under mysterious
circumstances, killing
the astronauts
onboard. She fears
something equally sin-
ister awaing the Final
Six beneath Europa’s
surface.
In this cu3hroat atmos-
phere, surrounded by
strangers from around
the world, Naomi finds
an unexpected friend in
Leo. As the training
tests their limits, Nao-
mi and Leo’s relaon-
ship deepens with each
life-altering experience
they encounter. But it’s
only when the finalists
become fewer and
their desnies grow
nearer that the two can
fathom the full weight
of everything at stake:
the world, the stars,
and their lives.

“That was me” she replied with a tone of fear in her voice . What a relief, I thought. “ I was cry-ing be-cause I saw a… a thing watching you while you were asleep.”
Last night I woke to the sound of
someone crying. It was an eerie sound, and surprisingly loud as well. Although I wanted to get up and go check it out, I was a bit tired so I ignored it by hiding under the covers. Today at breakfast I told my roommate about it.

They have also learned about harmony between the traditional owners and the land. The activities completed by the year 9 students have linked to the explo-ration and experimenta-tion of the different print-making techniques. Stu-dents have had the op-portunity to explore sim-ple line drawings, frott-age (rubbings), water colour, foam printing, potato printing and are currently moving into monotype line printing as well as calligraphy.
There are two themes being ex-plored by the year nine Visual Arts stu-dents this semester. The two different themes are Popular Culture and Going Bush. In term one the year nine student re-searched and re-sponded to the Pop Art movement, creat-ing art inspired by the popular culture today. The final copy was completed on either a skate deck or can-vas. With popular culture being the theme for term one, the theme for term two is Going Bush. Students have been researching

dared say so myself, I was convinced we were better than the other duets that had already played. I just knew we were going to win. We made our way back to our seats in the back of the Civ-ic Centre, and held our breath for the re-sults of the competi-tion. While we waited, we satisfied our dancing nerves by discussing how we and our competition had played. The judge took like three years to get to our section. As minds usually do, mine started to wan-der, and I suddenly remembered some-thing my sister had said. We had been
In Year 7 English this term we’ve reviewed how to create and structure a memoir about our personal lives using an ab-stract noun. e.g.: JOY BREAKS THROUGH THE ANXIETY (PRIDE)- ABSRACT NOUN Our fingers danced across the keys like synchronised balleri-nas as we sat side-by-side on the cush-ioned piano stool. With a final flourish, we completed the song, and stood for the polite applause of the crowd. I smiled triumphantly at my family sitting amongst the crowd; we had played terrifically. If I
talking about our weaknesses and strengths and in a passing comment, she had mentioned that “Emily is good at music exams; she gets A’s while I get C’s, but I must be better at performing, because I get first places, and Emily hasn’t ever got one.” I started to wonder, maybe she was right. Maybe we didn’t do as well as I thought, and because of me, we’d get second place. With these thoughts now tum-bling through my brain, I barely noticed when the adjudicator strode up to the stage to announce the re-sults.

“Second place is…” My brain still couldn’t fo-cus. I forced myself to pay attention to the announcement. “…And First place goes to Emily Rayner and Allison Nicholson.” I could barely believe it, had we done it? Had we won? With a goofy grin on my face, I fol-lowed Miss Nicholson up to the stage where we received our med-als. It was the shiniest thing I had ever seen. We danced out of the Civic Centre wearing our golden medals with pride, yelling “Yay!” into the streets at the same time. I felt like a star. It was the best night ever. By Emily Joy Rayner
