TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — The King of the world will raise us up to live again forever (2 Maccabees 7:1-2, 9-14). Psalm — Lord, when your glory appears, my joy will be full (Psalm 17). Second Reading — May the Lord encourage and strengthen your hearts (2 Thessalonians 2:16 — 3:5). Gospel — Those who are deemed worthy of the coming age can no longer die (Luke 20:27-38 [27, 34-38]). CONFIDENCE IN THE LORD We are nearing the end of the liturgical year. Today’s readings remind us that our own lives will draw to a close one day, and we can be certain that the Lord will encourage, strengthen, and save us—both now and at the last. The astonishing story of the Maccabees invigorates our faith as we behold an entire family willing to die rather than deny the Law of Moses. The psalm response echoes the faithful cries of the Maccabees: “I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God.” That same confidence appears in Saint Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians. “The Lord is faithful,” he testifies; “he will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.” In the Gospel, Jesus explains just how long God’s protection will endure. The children of God whom God guards, Jesus says, will live forever like angels.

FEED YOUR HUNGRY NEIGHBORS Lockport churches donate to the Lockport Food Pantry known as FISH, the symbol of Christianity. They serve 750 to 800 People

monthly which is more than 250 local families. Our Lord would want us to share what we have been given with those who have less. Presently needed are canned beans, meats and fish, peanut butter, jellies, canned vegetables (especially corn & green beans, spaghetti & sauce, cereals, pancake mix and syrup. Soaps, bath tissue, paper products and shampoo are also needed. Thank you for your generosity. You will be blessed. Feeding the Hungry is one of the Corporal Works of Mercy.

Funeral Mass Arrangements Upon the death of a loved one, a family member should contact the parish office as soon as possible (815-723-3291). You will be contacted by our bereavement coordinator, Anna Siwiec-Sitkowska, who will assist the family in planning the funeral liturgy for the deceased.

If it is too difficult for you to walk to the front of the church to receive Communion, please know that at each Mass an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion comes to the back of the church to distribute Communion. If you would like to have the Extraordinary Minister give you communion in the back of church, please let an usher know before Mass begins. At Communion time, when you see the Extraordinary Minister come to the back, please raise your hand so that they can see you and give you Holy Communion.

Mężczyźni Świętego Józefa Kim są Mężczyźni Świętego Józefa? W dzisiejszych czasach istnieje wiele przeszkód na drodze wiary, ale Mężczyzna Świętego Józefa to człowiek, który szuka Pana w swoim życiu: (Jer 29,13) “Będziecie Mnie szukać i znajdziecie Mnie, kiedy będziecie Mnie szukać z całego serca”. Nasz Pan Jezus Chrystus przyszedł, aby pokazać nam Miłość i my odkrywamy naszą rolę jako mężczyźni, którzy dostrzegają potrzeby inne niż poszukiwanie mocy i przywilejów (Łk 22,25). Mężczyźni Świętego Józefa to mężczyźni którzy "wspierają się na-wzajem i wzajemnie się budują" (1Tes 5,11) i trwają w Bogu(Jan 15). W rezultacie Mężczyzna Świętego Józefa jest spełniony przez odnajdywanie radości życia bożego w celach, jakie odkrywa dla swojego życia (Kol. 1,9-12). TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION

In the seventeenth century, English Catholics, many of them wealthy and well educated, looked to the American colonies as a place to regain a measure of religious freedom. In Ireland, the so-called penal laws were even harsher than in England, as a minority Parliament tried to force the conversion of the population by denying the majority political and economic power. Beginning in 1691, laws were passed that punished dissenters, principally Catholics, but also causing hardship for Jews, Quakers, and others. There were acts forbidding “mixed marriage” or sending children “beyond the seas” for schooling. Catholics were taxed at double the common rate, barred from the legal professions and from university, and not allowed to build churches or own a decent horse. In 1793 the situation began to change, as it became clear that the economic persecution would not drive the majority away from Catholicism. Gradually, laws were repealed until by 1829 freedom was won, although Catholics at university were ineligible for honors, and until the 1920s when the Republic was formed, the Church of Ireland was the state church, funded by the taxes of all citizens.
