‘New Year Greetings’We are delighted to pass on the third issue of
"Vidya Vihar Times" into your hands.
For the first time, since School’s inception in the year 1996, we were forced to prolong the vacation and to defer many activities including the daily assembly due to unprecedented climatic conditions. However, we hope to makeup for the lost time. This year there will be no mid-term break. Instead, we will arrange for outings for a day or two.
February is very-very important for every student. The final examination for the Board Examinees (Xth and XIth) is scheduled for 1st week of March 2010 and for the rest, in the 3rd week of March.
With the blessings of parents / guardians and teachers, we are confident that the students will do their best in the exams.
We wish them all the best..

Bharatanatyam is one of the classical dances of India. Indian classical dance is a relatively new umbrella term for various codified art forms rooted in Natya, the sacred Hindu musical theatre styles, whose theory can be traced back to the Natya-Shastra of Bharat Muni.
The dances performed inside the sanctum of the temple were called Agam- Nartanam. This was a spiritual dance form. Dances performed in royal courts to the accompaniment of classical music were called Karnatakam. This was an intellectual art form. Darbari Aattam form of dance appealed more to the commoners and it educated them about their religion, culture and social life. These dances were performed outside the temple precincts in courtyards.
For lack of any equivalents in the European culture, the British colonial authorities called any performing art forms found in India as "Indian dance". Even though the art of Natya includes Natta, or ‘dance proper,’ Natya has never been limited to dancing and also includes singing and abhinaya (acting). These features are common in all the Indian classical styles. The Sangeet Natak Akademi currently confers classical status to eight dance forms. They are:-
1. Bharatanatyam 2. Odissi 3. Kuchipudi 4. Manipuri
5. Mohiniattam 6. Sattriya 7. Kathakali 8. Kathak
The British Raj in India was a time of cultural hardship where these traditional dances over viewed by the British rulers as debauched and of doubtful morality. Furthermore, they were all labelled broadly as "Indian Dance" with no regard to the specifics of style. In 1947, India achieved independence. The classical forms and regional distinctions of dance were re-discovered, ethnic specialities were re-honoured.

TELEVISION WITH FAMILY
Most households in India have a television. Earlier, most
viewers in the country watched television as a family. It
was the Doordarshan monopoly era. Sundays were
such fun. Even fathers used to drag their sons away from
their favorite books to see 'Ramayan' and 'Mahabharat'.
It was clean humor and quality time that they shared
with their parents.
But the situation is other way round now. It has become parent's responsibility to monitor what the
child watches. Children are dragged towards book because of prolonged watching of television.
Nowadays, Children are totally devoid of regular one-to-one interaction with parents

DIVIDING THE ELEPHANTS
Santa (to Banta): How will you divide 17 elephants between three people with a condition that first rd
will get half of total elephants, 2nd will get one third and 3 will get one ninth.
Banta: Hey! For dividing elephants, according to the condition, we will have to cut the elephants
otherwise, it isn't possible.
Santa: It is possible. Suppose I give one of my elephants, for time being, now there are total 18
elephants. According to condition 1st will get 9 elephants, 2nd will get 6 elephant and 3rd will get 2
elephants I gave then there 17 elephants and the left one is my elephant.
