Thank you so much for the welcome basket for our
new little boy. What a great way to promote 4-H. It
was fun to go through. Wyatt loves the little bear

Vernon County 4-H Leader/Parent Federation October 19, 2011
Present: Executive Board: Jim Hawthorne-Nerison, Tammy Sherry-MM/Rt 56, Joy and Courtney Moser- Seas
Branch Smithies, Leaders: Deb Primmer-MM-Rt 56, Cheryl Rebhahn- MM/Rt 56, Joanne Hornby-DD/BB, Beth &
Brandon Lee-Springville Superstars, Betty and Brady Nigh-Lucky Clovers, Mary Jo Bringe-Rainbow Reachers, Anne
Marie Elwing-Lucky Clovers, Joe Marley-Retreat Ramblers and Colleen Pulvermacher, 4-H Youth Development
Educator. We had a special guest - Tim Rehbein-Vernon County Ag Agent.
Vice-President Jim Hawthorne called the meeting to order at 7:00pm. Pledges were recited.
Secretary’s Report of September 21, 2011 was read, corrections made, motion by Deb Primmer, 2nd by Joanne Hornby.
Motion carried. Treasure’s Report was read by Joy Moser, waiting for food stand money, transaction report was handed
out and discussion followed. A motion made to accept the report by Cheryl Rebhahn – 2nd by Beth Lee. Motion
carried. No correspondence.
Old Business: The Nominating committee will be looking for volunteers for the positions on the Federation Board for
Vice-President and Treasurer. We hope everyone likes the new format of the newsletter. It is cost efficient and much
easier for the volunteers to put together and it takes less time. You can always view it online or pick up a version with
larger print at the office. We received some money from Tractor Supply in their 4-H fund drive. Please thank them for
their donation when you are there. Nelson Agri-center has gone above and beyond their duty to the material supply
list for the new food stand. They have been very accommodating to changes and have made a special trip to La Crosse
to pick up supplies. Be sure to thank them for support that they are giving us is this big project that we have
undertaken. Tim Rehbein was present and gave an update on the Food Stand. The food stand was torn down by the
school construction class supervised by Lloyd Hardy. The concrete was taken out (lots of rebar) and the back portion
of the concrete has been poured. The rest should be poured later in the week. The age of the food stand was estimated
to be 60-65 years old. There was a mud hole from broken water pipes under the concrete and was left open several
days to dry. The Fair Board Building and Grounds committee suggestion that the building should be 34 feet wide x 40
feet long and brought out to the front of the grand stand so the view of the race track would not be obstructed by the
roofline. The seating arrangement was changed from the original plan to accommodate the corners seating space.
Eleven seats were lost from the original layout. Discussion followed about the equipment of the cooking area,
plumbing, electrical, seating and countertop height. The east entry door to the kitchen was also shifted to corner by the
eating area because of the elevation shots. Discussion about the Cornerstone food stand next to the 4-H food stand and
the problem with their concrete walkway is bad between the two stands will have to be fixed before the fair next year.
The commercial building permit was $600. Tim is watching an auction website for restaurant equipment.
New Business: Vernon County came in 5th place in the Badgerland Financial state wide contest on who has the best
county fair in Wisconsin. Youth organizations from the five counties with the most votes will be given the opportunity
to submit funding requests for service project ideas that directly benefit their local fair. Our 5th place award maybe
funded up to $1000.00 once a project proposal is submitted. Colleen is willing to work on this and Mary Jo Bringe
agreed to help write the proposal which needs to be in by the end of October. The service project will be something for
the youth to complete at the Vernon County Fair Grounds. There are four parts to the grant. A project overview, youth
development, plan timeline, outline of the expenses of the project. The fair board will be contacted to identify a project
they would like done.
Educator’s presentation – Annual report for the county board has been written and submitted, wind curriculum is
coming soon, and PBFF will be featured at national 4-H educators conference next week in Omaha. I will also be
receiving regional and national awards for achievement in service. National 4-H week went well with the newspaper
inserts, radio ads, and appreciation baskets for WVRQ and the Broadcaster, along with the baby basket which will be
delivered soon. I was a presenter at the Coulee Region Volunteer Conference last week. Volunteer orientation was
offered at Springville Superstars club and had 10 in attendance. I attended the Carcass dinner. Tim and Lloyd have
been doing a wonderful job with the foodstand. Changes in clubs: Nerison, Retreat Ramblers are changing leadership.
A few clubs have not turned in financial data which was due the end of August, so that is being followed up on. PBFF
was offered Oct. 27th, cancelled due to low enrollment. Officer training is being planned for Dec. 27th at KVR – watch
for details. Volunteer forums are coming in November – full details in newsletter. These are free and all are welcome
– youth or adult leaders. Volunteer orientation is planned for Wednesday, Nov. 9th at the office and Sunday, Dec. 11th
@ Rt 56/M Motivators Club meeting 1 p.m.
Beth Lee made a motion to adjourn the meeting Cheryl Rebhahn seconded.
Meeting adjourned by Vice-President Hawthorne at 8:10pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Tammy Sherry, Secretary

NEW MARKET AND PERFORMANCE STEER SELF-IDENTIFICATION PROCEDURES
AND NEW PERFORMANCE DIVISION IDENTIFICATION SITES
ANNOUNCED FOR 2012 WISCONSIN STATE FAIR
West Allis, WI – November 22, 2011 – Officials at Wisconsin State Fair, presented by U.S. Cellular,
have announced new market steer self-identification procedures as well as new performance division
identification sites for the 2012 Wisconsin State Fair. The 2012 Fair will take place Thursday, August 2
through Sunday, August 12 at Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis. Exhibitors wishing to exhibit Junior Market
Steers will need to self-identify their animals with an official Wisconsin State Fair RFID identification tag and submit
a DNA hair sample. Materials must be submitted between January 1 and February 10, 2012. Request forms for
animal identification will be available at WiStateFair.com from January 1 through January 31, 2012. Forms
must be submitted with proper fees ($15 per identified animal) by mail or delivered to the Wisconsin State Fair
offices located at 640 South 84th Street, West Allis, WI 53214 by the deadline. Identification supplies
will only be available for pick-up at the Wisconsin State Fair offices February 1 – 10, 2012.
Upon processing of identification requests, Wisconsin State Fair will send RFID (Allflex) identification
tag(s), identification documentation and DNA sample submission envelopes to each exhibitor. The
exhibitor must self-identify his or her animals by placing the official Wisconsin State Fair RFID tag in
the animal’s ear, collecting a DNA hair sample and completing the animal identification documentation
form. Allflex ear taggers and needle nose pliers to extract hair DNA may also be purchased from the
Fair if needed. DNA samples with the identification documentation must be postmarked or
delivered to Wisconsin State Fair no later than 4:30pm on February 10, 2012.
Performance steers must be identified with a Wisconsin State Fair RFID ear tag and submit a DNA
sample between January 1 and February 10, 2012. New Performance Division Identification Sites have also been
implemented for the 2012 Wisconsin State Fair. Exhibitors wishing to enter the performance division must take their
animals to one of the following four official identification sites to get weighed. Performance steers must have
already been identified with a Wisconsin State Fair RFID ear tag and have submitted a DNA sample
by February 10. DO NOT go to Performance Weigh-In Sites without official Wisconsin State Fair
RFID tags placed in the ear of the steer(s).
