• Each charity has its own Charity Number
• The Government keeps a Register of Charities
• There is no individual owner of a charity

• Control and management: a Board of Trustees - who are unpaid
• Finance: donations from the public, Government Grants, Lottery funding, sales from their shops and/or fund raising
• Objectives: to relieve poverty, to advance religion, to advance education, to carry out activities beneficial to the community.

• These organisations are run and staffed by volunteers
• They bring together people with similar interests
• Small sports clubs (cricket, bowls, rugby) are common Voluntary Organisations
