We’re the Church with a Warm Heart

The other day I came upon an older gentleman walking along the side of the road and I won-

dered to myself, “I wonder where he’s headed?”

I started to imagine where in the world he could be walking to on such a hot day. Was his

journey for a half gallon of milk at the grocery store? If so, was he expecting to carry it all the

way back by himself? Maybe the unemployment office? I wondered if he could find work at

his age. Was he coming home or on his way to something important?

There are so many possibilities for just one man’s story. I have often wondered what Jesus thought as he stood in the middle of Peter’s boat and looked up at the crowd on the lakeshore.

So often when we see ourselves standing before Christ we think of our final judgement or the things that we should or could have done better... but as we have studied the disciples we have

found that Jesus does something much more than stand in judgement. Christ calls us to live a life full of possibilities.

Over the last few weeks we have looked at the lives of a man who denied Christ, of one disciple

who was so quiet, most of us didn’t even know his name. Then there was a bold disciple who

walked with Jesus for years but even at the last moment he still didn’t really get what Jesus was really teaching. Yet Christ called all of these flawed people because I believe that when he

looked at their lives he looked past the mistakes and the rough spots to see the possibilities of what the Spirit could do through them.

Our Christian life is like that random gentleman’s journey down the side of the road. It could

easily be filled with hardship, mistakes, or any number of woes, but it could also be a life in which the Son of God sees possibilities for what the Spirit can do through us.

Our friend on the road could have been walking to the Salvation army to serve soup, or to help

his sister with a home project she cannot do herself, or to give a bible study at his local church. His journey could have been leading him to all kinds of roads of building God’s kingdom. The

question today friends, “Where is God leading you down the road?”

Grace and Peace,

Preston

Eagle Scout Request

Dear Hardy Members:

I am currently beginning my Eagle Scout project, and I will be working with the First Tee of

Texarkana. This is a non-profit organization that helps young people by “providing educational pro-

grams that build character, instill values, and promote healthy choices while teaching golf”. First

Tee operates at New Haven golf course in Texarkana, AR. I will be constructing three water cooler

houses that will be placed in tee boxes at the course. In addition to building these, I will also be col-

lecting gently used golf clubs, bags, and balls to donate to the participants. As part of my project, I

will be cleaning the clubs and bags to prepare them for the participants to use.

If you would like to donate any of these items to the kids at First Tee, I will be glad to come and pick

them up from you. Please call me at(903)-832-7524 and leave a message. In advance, thanks for

your support of this project and Hardy Scout Troop 13.

Sincerely

Conner Patterson

In Colossians 1:15-18 we find the following truth from God’s word, “He is the image of the invisible

God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth,

visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him

and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body,

the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might

have the supremacy.”

Paul here is talking about Jesus, the creator of the universe. In Jesus all things are held together and

it is through him that all things were made. What an amazing truth this is! When we go through diffi-

cult situations or face things that seem beyond us, it is important for us to remember who is in control.

During this political season when we will be bombarded with messages from both sides telling us how

historic and important this election is, let us remember that ultimately Jesus is in control and that He

sets up “thrones…powers…rulers…authorities”. It should be a great comfort to us to know that, regard-

less of how we perceive things, Jesus is the head of all things and will hold all things together until his

glorious return. Praise the Lord that we have confidence in Jesus

Musings From Micah

The Jesus Boat

The “Jesus Boat” in the sanctuary is on loan from McKinney

Ray Akin. This boat was built for Homer Scott by a Mr. McCurry

some time in the late 1920’s. a second one like it was built for

Floyd Scott. In the early 1930’s , this boat was used by one of

McKinney’s neighbors to ferry him and his younger sister, Des-

demona, across the flooded Red River bottoms to ?Tan Yard

Bridge so that they could get to Pleasant Grove Elementary

School. That same neighbor would be back at the bridge to

pick them up after school and row them home.

A few years ago, Homer Scott’s son, Albert, offered the

boat to McKinney. Of course, he accepted and it has been

stored in his barn ever since.

We appreciate McKinney for preserving this part the his-

tory of our area and allowing us to use it during our study of

“Twelve Ordinary Men”.

The Power of a Simple Gift

Hardy’s Mission Team is partnering with a group endeavor called “Operation Christmas Child.” Through this

project millions of children in over 100 countries will experience the joy of

Christmasand hear the Good News of Jesus Christ. Our gifts can make an eternal difference.

TO BEGIN, ALL YOU NEED IS A SHOE BOX which will be made available through the Operation Christmas

Child international relief group!

THEN, you will determine whether your gift will be for a boy or a girl and the

child’s age category: 2-4; 5-9; or 10-14.

NEXT, fill with a variety of gifts that will bring delight to a child. Suggestions include a few school sup-

plies; a small toy like a jump rope, a small car, a doll; hygiene gifts like a toothbrush, bar soap, wash-

cloth; other items like socks or a ball cap.

A personal note to the child or a photo of your family is also nice.

FINALLY, include a small financial donation to help cover shipping.

Consider making this a family affair. Let your children help to fill the box.

The drive will begin October 21st the during morning worship on November 18, families will have an oppor-

tunity to bring their shoe box to the altar to be blessed by Pastor Preston.

What a wonderful way to help instill the joy of giving to our children!
