Welcome back from Spring Break. Hopefully these hallowed halls of learning now find you rested, recharged and ready for a strong finish to the last half of the semester. While you have been vacationing in various ex-otic locales (or simply sleeping in at home), we’ve been updating the Student Life Website this Spring Break. When you have a chance, please check out our new Student Profiles: A Year in the Life. We’re very pleased with the site and give credit to those students who were kind enough to help us put this together. We brought in a photographer and scheduled photo ses-sions with 12 volunteers, and the results were striking indeed. The updated web site is important to the school for several reasons. First, our school is a small community to itself and it always helps to learn more about each other. The participants took time to share comments and observations that should be of interest to every law stu-dent. You’ll find helpful tips and words of encourage-ment from those who share the trenches here with you. A second goal of the site is to serve as an introduction to the school for prospective students. You may recall how often you perused web-sites and brochures for the schools you dreamed of at-tending. The first impres-sion a student has of SCU and its law school may very well come from the web

site. By offering a glimpse of our diverse and very tal-ented student body, the site makes a strong case for put-ting SCU on a prospective student’s short list of pre-ferred institutions. Finally, the page gives a good perspective on the per-sonality and character of our school. By including both full and part-time students from varied backgrounds, we make the point that the SCU experience is an inclu-sive and accommodating one. More than a simple mar-keting piece, Student Pro-files is a sincere collection of viewpoints and honest assessments. It’s significant that so many volunteers of-fered positive comments about our faculty. Such un-prompted endorsements are a reflection of the time and energy our professors de-vote to their students. If you haven’t taken advantage of the office hours your profs keep we’d encourage you to make time to visit before finals. Moreover, our fac-ulty encourages conferences after receiving marks, and more than a few students have been guided to clerk-ships and careers by seeking input from our talented fac-ulty. We hope you enjoy the page and that you’ll help us continue to make our law school one of the premiere institutions in the state and the country. We all benefit from the successes we share and from the assistance we give each other.

Sincerely,

Jennifer and Sandra

26th Annual BALiF Dinner: "Equality: A Right Reserved to All"

BGLAd won the BALiF award for best LGBT student organization in 2005 and is nominated for the award again this year, so everyone cheer us on as we attend the 26th Annual BALiF Dinner!

Date: Thursday, March 9th 2006 Time: 5:30 PM, Cocktail Reception and Hors D'oeuvres

7:30 PM Dinner Program

Speaker: Kate Kendell, Executive Director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) will deliver the dinner keynote address. Ms. Kendell and NCLR are at the forefront of the legal battle for LGBT equality.

Info: The BALiF Board will also present the Community and Legal Service Award at the dinner. While the award honors an organization or individual whose work benefits the LGBT community in the non-legal and legal arena, this year's honorees work in areas that have been much neglected in our community. Positive Resource Center will receive the Community Service Award for its work to help individuals with HIV/AIDS obtain employment and financial security. Transgender Law Center will receive the Legal Service Award for its efforts to gain equality and acceptance on behalf of people who are transgender.

If you still want a chance to attend, please e-mail Jackie Bentley ([email protected]) to RSVP. BGLAd may still have some openings at our tables, or we may buy another table if the demand is high enough!!!!
